7/175 w option year triggering 8th year $75 million payment making it 8/250 essentially...if Manny hits certain performance metrics such as 7 MVP awards
-
Perspective. No team is going to come out of a meeting with a free agent player and state “the meeting was just okay.” If they say anything, both sides will say it was “great”...helps in the recruitment relationship and the negotiations with other teams, respectively.
-
Other than negotiation fatigue, the Sox are in absolutely no rush. They don’t have a legitimate shot at the title w Manny next year.
-
Funny thing about Bob is he’s being worked by both sides (Sox Phils), the top (Boras) and bottom (Lozano). It’s quite impressive that he can keep his fed narratives straight

Sorry to hear that. Wish you and your family the best.

And we have the benefit of no real cap in the early years so the AAV can be higher in the early years and bargain level in years 6-8 (opt out year 6), which will be exercised if still performing. Fine for us as it meets our window and we can reset and go after other whales (our own hopefully) at that point.

Won’t be 7/210...that was an assumption based on “closer to 200 than 300” narrative erroneously combined with the “7 year” claim. It’s likely more like 7/245 with 8/270 closer to where it ends up.

300 club!

I guess page 71...as I believe mods will start a new thread at 300ish.

The reason for no tweets today is becauase both sides are at the negotiation table so neither side is freely available to put their narrative out for the media mouthpieces

Jerry is involved insofar as an offer made (he has to clear it). Honestly, if he’s directly involved (versus just signing off on addendums to the offer), it’s near finality.
-
If Jerry is directly involved it’s close to getting done. Jerry is a “I want to see a cut of his jib” type guy to finalize a deal. If it was falling apart, Jerry would have Rick try to salvage (not Kenny as he’s loyal to Kenny but knows his “tact” shortcomings)

I don’t buy any of the Alonso and Jay help us now w/ or w/out Machado. No way we stunt the rebuild with those two and no Manny. Those two were brought in with Machado already in tow. We are secretly working on Bryce to complete the daily double. We won’t announce Manny because it hurts Bryce’s negotiation and keeps Phillies occupied with both versus fully focusing on Bryce. But it appears word leaked to Phils and they put on full court press on Bryce and Sox frustrated as a result. So Sox are playing the confusion game having various people throw out all sorts of Manny rumors and keeping Phils at least mildly involved w Manny. yes, Rick and Kenny are geniuses.

A player is worth what the market is willing to pay. How can it be a “lowball deal” if it’s a competitive offer in this market. It’s clear they are in on both players to varying degrees so the more they don’t outbid themselves, the better their chances at landing both and not hamstringing the team’s future.
-
I wouldn’t rule out a deal with Machado already in place (7 years guaranteed (5th year opt out), 8th year based on a low bar performance clause, 9th year as player option and 10th as team option) as Hahn is a master contract negotiator. Sox perhaps quietly working on Harper by floating out guaranteed/low end of offer to keep Boras’ demands at bay. Something similar to Machado but either more total value w fewer options at end or higher AAV w more options. If Phillies blow that out of the water w something like 10/375 guaranteed then this “daily double” won’t happen. But Sox would love to announce both together and once they know for sure they are out on Bryce, the Manny announcement waits. Manny’s camp would have to be looped in on this so promise there to give Manny something better than Harper (flexibility w options or AAV higher than Bryce).

“The transactions alone...” and “they were strong indications...” means exactly that they weren’t the favorites...until they upped the offer by a year and $40 million
-
It’ll prob happen tonight but will be officially tweeted out by the Sox tomorrow morning.
-
It’s the “...they were ready to do what it took...” which kinda means it’s done whereas if he said “...they have been ready to do what it takes...”

This seems to support mbs1969 that saying “frustrated” or “frustrating” is the new company line...all the way up from Hahn to NotHahn
-
Sox will get both Harper and Machado. And w Eloy joining the fray mid-April...this will be a great season.
-
NotHahn doesn’t have his druthers until tomorrow

Only one more?
