  1. We already have our 6'8" giant with control issues...give me the improving Cease all day.
  2. He's a 23-yr old 2017 7th-round draftee showing the normal progress into High A and doing reasonably well as a pure reliever. Perhaps, Sox see something but doesn't seem like an exciting piece of the future.
  3. Eloy's bat more than compensates and at 6'4" and reasonably athletic (albeit maybe slower afoot), could profile as a mashing 1B. I'd take that over Austin Meadows joining the ranks of Robert, Rutherford, Adolfo, Basabe, Gonzalez, Walker, Call etc in the OF. And based on progress from last year to this year, Cease >>> Glasnow.
  4. Restocking the lower minors with lefty relievers --> lower minor left relievers moving up --> Bummer coming up to MLB --> Avilan traded. Just waiting on the paper work to clear...tick tock
  5. Because he was perceived to be better pitcher than Q at that time too, even if not justified by stats. IF the various rumors on the Astros were to be believed, the guys we wanted from the Astros for Q (Musgrove et al) were offered for Archer with a little bit less for Q. So if that serves as a proxy for that time frame, then it seems Pirates just decided to go for it.
  6. Moncada is the better player. Age 23 season, 97 (career 97) vs. Age 23 season for Hansen, 44 (career 80).
  7. White Sox would say "no" because after coming back from TJS, Reyes is out for the year again with a lat tear.
  8. I would package Avi and Avilan to the Phillies for the two Greeks of yore, Adonis (P) and Arquimedes (SS), and call it a day.
  9. lency delgado...not the prep SS from FL that I would have expected.
  10. I predict she’ll ask a player: “you were drafted by the blue jays. The league also has cardinals and orioles. What is your favorite bird?”
  11. They prob announced him as a SS because TA thicker skinned than Yoan, who would sulk if they drafted a 2B.
  12. They did announce him as Short Stop Nick Madrigal
  13. I’d be happy with Singer. He was consensus top pick last year and fairly consistent this year. Madrigal solid too...I think it’s more can’t go wrong with either.
  14. Isn’t Rutherford still in a few Top 100s albeit back end vs where he was prior
  15. Anyone else concerned that each of Matt Davidson’s subsequent HRs had less distance, launch angle and exit velocity? He was coming back down to Earth with each shot and I think it’s fair to assume he won’t keep up this pace as he clearly was getting tired as the game wore on. ????
  16. I voted Eloy because the power and hit tools will be superstar level. Moncada very well could be the well-rounded superstar but there are far more questions about each tool that make his floor vs ceiling more variable with no tool bankable at this point.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 11:42 AM) So that means the gap was even narrowing than $250k for Yolmer? That makes it worse, not better in his case. I read it as they gave the White Sox a higher number, which could mean for example in Sanchez’s case, maybe $500k to $1 million higher, and then filed at only $250k higher. They then didn’t negotiate as that was the lowest Sanchez would come down to and what they might have settled at had they agreed prior to filing. In that scenario, White Sox prepared to pay the $250k higher any way and no financial benefit to just give Sanchez that amount versus letting it just play out in court and perhaps save the additional $.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 07:52 PM) Correct. At best, not holding out hope for much success if he does pitch again That’s too bad...his stuff was filthy when healthy
  19. QUOTE (JPR @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 08:13 PM) White Sox keep losing these hearings. Are they just being super cheap? Avi might end up in LF or a DH if he doesn't work on his game, like arm strength. Arm strength? You can point to various defensive deficiencies but I’m just fine with an arm that averages 15 assists a season in the 2 seasons (2015 & 17) when playing on average of 131 games in RF.
  20. I heard his minor league deal includes a bonus if his birthday is actually listed in the US format 10/2/88 with the month first vs the international format 2/10/88 with the day first.
