  1. It was/is very cold in Chicago. Wednesday will bring “life threatening” cold. This is a reality of living through Chicago winters but not the welcome we want to provide...
  2. WSD and Rabbit have sources. Whether they get complete info or post only what might be in the works with some limited info opens them up for unjust criticism. Me personally, like many others have said, prefer to get those teasers to dream upon versus nothing at all. I cast aside other new people that claim inside info until they prove they at least have access to someone important (both Rabbit ant WSD have at least interviewed Hahn...not something he offers to everyone) or break something. Now Bucket @macsandz is a whole other ball game. He does not “seek attention” nor make unbelievable claims. He rarely posts and very well might be someone in the org/front office. His posts are gold...and understandably vague at times.
  3. Nothing about any progress made in the last 48 hours nor about it being in addition to Machado. If there was something else about progress share a link. I totally disregard heresay at this point. This is what I was referencing on the 48 hours things; it’s from Fegan’s The Athletic article : “It’s not over yet for me,” Hahn said of offseason moves for the Sox. “The way the free-agent market or even the trade market by extension has played out over the last several winters, we’ve sort of moved away from SoxFest on the calendar being the unofficial start of the season, the kickoff before spring training. They’re still on our mind, conversations we’ve had the last 48 hours. There’s still three to four potential acquisitions that we’re working on.” https://theathletic.com/787220/2019/01/27/with-or-without-machado-rick-hahn-says-white-sox-arent-done-adding/
  4. Other than no-name randos on social media, has anyone seen anything that says White Sox don’t have the highest offer? Or that another team has even made an official offer...that may or may not exceed that of the Sox? There is a fine line of “not getting bent over” and “showing genuine interest”. The Sox have done a good job of showing that they are legitimately interested and will do what it takes to land Manny. They have also set the line in the sand that they won’t just acquiesce to egregious demands that the perceived Manny market was “supposed to be.” If it comes out later that some other team got Manny at say 8/250 and Sox wouldn’t pony up that 8th year, go after Hahn and the FO. Until then, people are indicting based on unsubstantiated claims and imperfect information.
  5. The ? are for one of the 3 to 4 moves Hahn referenced, just not the Machado one. Hahn said progress made on the 3 to 4 moves over the past 48 hours (this was yesterday that he said that I believe).
  6. I think we can be patient because it’s not like the season or even Spring Training has started. What has Manny missed besides Sox Fest? And Jay didn’t attend either. He’s working out (w some Sox players) and doing his normal off season. I would wake up and go to bed every night feeling like the Sox have shown the most interest, have the top offer and will eventually sign Manny...unless you read otherwise from Rosethal or the like.
  7. Hosmer this year and onward and Will Myers starting next year make over $20MM annually. They have less flexibility in the short term (hard to front load contract on what will be a 75 win team at best) like White Sox have. And then the anti-west coast and no family/ friends make this a pretty uneven battle between padres and Sox in White Sox favor. Padres entry this late in game is only meant to push white Sox to add an additional few million to their offer or sweeten deal some way. This will be done soon. I’d be more worried if one of the initial suitors (Yanks or Phils) were putting the press on. Yanks, by all accounts, are out. And Phils focused on Harper most likely realizing Sox not going away on Manny. This is the last gasp effort (SD trying to meet Manny in next few days...may not even happen) and I expect signing done by early next week.
  8. Pending Manny signing from WS side? Or else, we go after Harper. Pending Realmuto trade from LAD side? To ensure Verdugo not included. Don’t see the $200 session excuse. If I’m a Dodgers fan, I’m more pissed you made me go through it when you knew you were moving him. Just move him and give me my money back...
  9. Agree. They can’t and they won’t. The planets have aligned to sign a generational talent at a position of need at a tolerable market rate.
  10. Don’t miss him but interestingly, he’s the only Sox related person that has penetrated the national audience. I can travel all around the country and non-White Sox fans say “he gone” and “put in on the board...yes”
  11. I understand disappointment but I’m addressing those that are lashing out at the few insiders (well connected or slightly plugged in), that most message boards would love to have.
  12. Wow, some on this board turn on their own in a hurry. Did anything Hahn or anyone else say today give any of you the impression we are not converting on a premium talent?!?
  13. If Padres get Manny, Tatis Jr will be available. Padres won’t get Manny...but last minute smokescreen from Lozano means Sox will finalize soon. and don’t dismiss Hahn’s first comment in regards to what number Manny will wear...”depends on what’s retired” so surprise #1 is Ozzie Guillen #13 to be retired surprise 2 (fingers crossed) is what number Manny chooses w 13 gone.
  14. Fits the SoxFest deadline narrative I mentioned earlier. Hahn and co. wanted it wrapped up by start, Lozano wants the weekend or until the end of SoxFest to keep fielding other offers and/or get an extra perk thrown into contract. I think it will be done by tonight...J. Michael Reinsdorf, feeling like he has created enough buzz on this site, now painting that element of surprise the org wants once again.
  15. Holding off on Machado isn’t unreasonable if they had a SoxFest deadline for their offer. Lozano had until now to get more if he could. Perhaps it became evident even a few weeks ago that no one would beat Sox offer (which I believe is more like 8/250) and everyone prepped for the inevitable. It’s not holding off announcing a deal, it’s just finalizing and delivering the inevitable news
  16. Fair points but it’s already sold out (perhaps with anticipation and hopes of surprises prior) without Manny or Bryce. If they announced prior, it might be chaos with overcrowding outside and around hotel. And if they announce prior, Manny and/or Bryce kinda required to be there so they don’t seem aloof to fans. In this day and age, a Skype call w Manny over the large television could work just as well and keeps craziness in sub-zero temps around the hotel at bay.
  17. Unless, as the Reinsdorf burner account intimates, deal was finalized last night (probably Laz instead of Bush) and they were going to inform players this morning and announce this afternoon/early evening (at Sox Fest).
  18. Pollock was reported to have passed his physical already but deal hasn’t officially been announced by LAD yet. And there is always common courtesy extended between teams to allow each to speak to the players and let them know about player being traded. In the new social world, the player then goes on social media and “thanks the org for a great run and how they are looking forward to the new start w new team” So both teams have announcement ready, Friedman talks to Pederson, Hahn to Fulmer, KW to Bummer and Getz to Laz simultaneously and then they release statement.
