8/29 Thread - Sox vs Yankees - 12:05pm CDT on WGN

Nine up, nine down. Sergio is DEALIN'!! Lookin' like Cy Young. Contreras, not dealin'. Woooo! Go Sox. I have to go help my ex-wife move. Ugh. What a crappy day. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) If the Sox want more consistent hitting, they need to phase out the dinosaurs in the middle of the lineup. How true. Can't argue with that. The "Get Better Players" philosophy is pretty obvious, but it's not gonna happen overnight especially at this point in the season. I'm sorry that about all you can do right now is send a message. Everybody isn't going to agree with that. No matter what you're talking about doing not everyone is going to agree with the course of action. So flame away about "sending a message" but for christ's sake something has to happen fast. We'd all like to see this team doing better than struggle to be at .500.

QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) In case you hadn't noticed, it's SERGIO MITRE!! Sergio "F***ing" Mitre. We should CLOBBER that bum. But, it's still early and maybe we will. -
Guzzler.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) You don't take away a man's job and livelihood to "send a message." If you truly believe that the players are no longer responding to Walker, then you replace him this winter. But you don't take away another human being's job just because you're pissed off and want to shake things up. I disagree. It's baseball. It's a business. It sucks maybe, but that's the way it works and it happens all the time.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) As bad as our offense has looked our bullpen and our defense have been even worse. This is true. I think the whole thing with firing Walker is that changes have to be made. I'd like to see the White Sox be better than mediocre. Change has to start somewhere.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) Are we watching the same offense? And I can't help but to feel that a couple blowout wins has skewed our numbers for August. Seems like 6 out of 7 games we're struggling to get anything going offensively. EDIT: Just got back from the gym. Was watching ESPN News while doing cardio and the stat they flashed during the Sox/Yanks game recap was that we haven't scored more than 5 runs in 31 of the last 40 games. I knew my instinct was right. And let's see.....hmmmm...in those last 40 games the White Sox record is let's see....18-22. Oh yeah, that's great. That'll get it done. They're hovering around mediocrity. I'm sorry. Time to send a message to those "multi-millionaire" players and it starts with Walker.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) So firing a hitting coach is sending a message to the multi-millionaire players? Sorry, Walker is a well-liked guy, but firing him isn't going to make anyone hit any better. Whoever said they guaranteed the Sox offense couldn't get worse is pulling crap out of his ass. For the record, as awful as the White Sox offense has been this month and as terrible as Greg Walker supposedly has been, they are still scoring more than 5 runs a game for the month. If there is a problem, I think its with the advanced scouting. These guys sometimes have no clue at the plate especially late against relief pitching. I think they have bad reports on pitchers. BTW who on the White Sox is totally underachieving overall at the plate? Dye perhaps, but he was great earlier, did Walker just get stupid? Quentin? He was hurt, and of course his near MVP cannot be credited in anyway to Walker just his struggles, but its still better than he did in Arizona. Yes, firing a hitting coach IS sending a message to "multi-millionaire" players. I've always liked Greg Walker too, both as a player and as a coach. Maybe the players really like him, how would I know? If that's so, then yeah it's for sure sending a message. Will it make them hit better? Maybe, maybe not. But, it would tell the "multi-millionaire" players that you guys aren't hitting as well as we'd like so Walker goes. Problem with advance scouting, good god yes (!) and has been for a long time.

QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) lots of hardcore fans here I see the Sox within two before they start their six games vs DET Are you insinuating that if any of us declare that we're out we're not hardcore fans? I hope not. It's just that we're done thinking the Sox can take this thing this year. I'm never done rooting for and following the team. I'm as hardcore a fan as there. I've been living and breathing White Sox since the early 1950's, through thick and thin. I went to more games in any one season in 1970, a year that was probably the worst year in franchise history. A 56-106 record, average attendance was in the vicinity of 6,000 per game. I went to games when there weren't 1,000 fans in the ballpark, which is hard to fathom today. I think I qualify as a hardcore fan. Granted, there may be a select few who, when they say they're done they mean they're done watching, following, even caring: the fair weather fan. I don't ever want to be confused with that type of fan.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Granted, that doesn't say that he's the worst hitting coach ever but it also shows that we've been a below average offense for over half his tenure here. And once again, I don't think getting rid of him is magically going to cure everything but I'd also guarantee that it wont hurt. If it jump starts the team for a little bit then it'd be well worth it imo. Not to mention that Kenny has already pretty much sent out a threat to the players and a firing might just show them that he isn't f***ing around. This beautifully sums it all up for me. It's all about sending a message.

How about an explosion of runs (White Sox runs)?
-
Great catch by wise. His defining moment! Well, sorta.
-
Excellent! I like it very much.
-
My turn. Man, everything's sunshine, lollipops and rainbows again! Hooray!!!
-
Cutler!!! I'm excited!
-
And this is reply #1000.

Eleven. Seriesly I would say 80,497. How many times have you heard or read that Greg Walker should be fired?

QUOTE (sf_soxfan @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Procol Harum isn't lighting up the charts these days either Ahhh, but they're timeless.

Goes back a long way (to the 60's) but Nix reminds me of Ron Hansen. Doesn't hit for much an average but he's got some pop and knack for pretty decent clutch hitting.
-
Uribe's long gone.
-
Pete Vuckovich, albeit very briefly.
-
Nyls Nyman!!
-
Lamar Johnson.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Bring back Hriniak. I'm pretty sure he's still alive.
