Running naked down Michigan Ave. will be a bit difficult. I like in Utah. Oh well. I'm for drafting on a Sunday. Most people don't work or go to school and there's no more football, so seems like a good day. Thanks Zoom for all your efforts!! Muchly appreciated.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) I believe CWS already made that joke. FWIW, it sounds as if Angelos agreed to let Roberts be traded, so the Cubs are going to add him early next week. I saw K. Wood pitch a little today, and he looked awful. Has there been any speculation on what the Flubs would give up? You don't get a player like Roberts for garbage. Although, if I recall they got Aramis Ramírez for next to nothing. :fthecubs

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) There is something else to kinda think about. Lets say there is a Cubs game at 1:05, and the Sox are playing at 7:05. How is it going to look when the Cubs draw 37,000 during the day, and the Sox have 25,000 in the park that night? I don't think it's a huge deal, but it's publicity the Sox don't really need. That's exactly what I was thinking too. How would it look if for the season the Cubs outdrew the Sox....by a lot.... in the Sox' ballpark? Not good.

Terry Bevington, when he was manager of the Sox, swore at me and called me nasty names because he was too drunk to follow my simple directions to a vending machine (go down one hallway and turn right, that'll bring you into bldg 2, it's in the middle of that hallway). He came back about 5 minutes later screaming at me. I had to lead him to the vending machine. I also was screamed at by James Taylor's road manager who called me among other things, a village idiot. He was the most arrogant a##**** I've ever met. James Taylor was really nice. I've also been held up at gunpoint along with my dad at my dad's drug store. The night before an old couple who ran a nearby small grocery store were held up and the guy made them lie down on the floor. After robbing them, he shot them both in the head, killing them. This guy the next night is robbing us and when he told us to lie down on the floor, I was sure we were as good as dead. Without a doubt the scariest moment of my life.

I'm just mad about Saffron. Saffron's mad about me. I'm just mad about Saffron. She's just mad about me. Donovan was actually a pretty good pitcher that you never hear about any more. He was a workhorse.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 07:26 AM) I watched a show on delivery pizza a few weeks ago on the travel channel. Pizza Hut was founded by two guys who had had pizza only a handful of times in their lives. It finally explained why their pizza is so bad. Pizza in other parts of the country tends to be awful. To steal a line from The Office, "it tastes like a hot circle of garbage." I don't know what it is, but they just can't do it right. Even the Uno's chains in other parts of the country are crap. I generally prefer thin crust, but I'll have a good deep dish from time to time. Pizza Hut pizza is for the most part pretty bad. I worked at a Pizza Hut once many years ago and I refused to make pizzas the way they made them. I made them my way and got good comment cards. But I wouldn't bend to doing it their way and quit. Also Little Ceasers Hot and Ready are absolutely disgusting, nonetheless I eat them all the time because my youngest daughter loves them.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) I once drove Willie Mays around in my car for three days. By the third day were you both smelling pretty bad?

I drove George "The Iceman" Gervin around in a golfcart at about 2:00 in the morning....twice. He is a super nice guy and loves to talk about fishing. I was working as a security guard. I also had a noise complaint on Jim McMahon who was not the most cooperative person in the world, but he did invite me in for a beers. Speaking of which, I bet I'm the only person on Soxtalk who has ever been asked by Jim Belushi to have a couple of drinks with him. It happened just a few days after John Belushi died and he was "a mess".

New Keeper League Sign ups

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) I would take BB out for pitchers because that's really already covered in WHIP. Also, I think the number of stat categories for offense and pitching should be equal. Currently, the offense has more categories and thus is more important. It should be even, imo. I'd suggest adding OPS for hitters (as it'll take in 2B, 3B, and BB) and subtracting BB for pitchers as its in WHIP already. That way you it's at 6x6 and its now even between pitching and hitting. Right on. -

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) Either way. I'm mainly just against adding new categories like 2B and 3B. Standard 5x5 stat categories is the best whether its roto or head to head. Adding in multiple categories throws some funky player ratings into the game imo. Perhaps just compromise at use the standard 5x5 stat categories but do head to head. Best of both worlds. I'm a stat nut. I like having having extra stat categories, but that's just me. If y'all think it'd be better without extra stats it'd be ok. I was in a league a couple of years ago that had I think 28 different stats. Even I thought that was too much. There were lots of categories especially in pitching that enabled the guys who didn't stay active to benefit from not having full lineups. That sucked. However, I like having doubles and triples and (hitters) BBs. Guys like Swisher and Dunn are so much more valuable because of the BBs. Last year, in a league that counted triples, I had the good fortune to have Granderson. Either way, do what you think is best, Commish. -
I picked up a couple of old science fiction paperbacks from the early '60s at a thrift store. I'm reading one right now called 3 From Out There. It's three short stories by Isaac Asimov, Damon Knight and Edmond Hamilton.

QUOTE(2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) i have just up the amount of SP to 3 and the amount of general Ps to 4, A guy who joined thought itd be good to work with more pitchers. Oh, I agree. I like the changes. For a draft time, any time after 10:30pm Chicago time or any time in the morning would be fine, up until noon. Sunday...any time, night or day. -

I'm in. As I said in the Fantasy setup thread or whatever you wanna call it, I haven't been a big fan of roto, but I'm willing to give it another try and besides I've wanted to get in a keeper league. Any chance of expanding the stats to include doubles, triples and BBs? Not a big deal, if not. -
Who is your favorite player currently on the Sox's MLB level team?
BigEdWalsh replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Tough choice. I have several favorites and of the new guys I think I'm gonna especially like Quentin and Ramirez, but my vote is with Bobby. -
Jeans are the only pants I even own. I buy 'em cheap and often at thrift stores, usually under $10. I can't see spending big bucks on a frickin' pair of pants.

QUOTE(Cowch @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 01:48 AM) Also I want to be in a league with the poster above me (BigEdWalsh). Besides wanting to be in a head to head, that is my only other must. What can I say? He wants to play in a league with the best. Actually he's my son and we've been in other non-Sox Talk leagues together before. We're very competitive and neither of us likes to lose to the other. If you'd be so kind to put us in the same league that'd be great.
-
I have several years of experience and always stay active. I would prefer head to head because I hate the maximum games played rule in roto and I just didn't fare well in League 5 (roto) last year (6th place), easily my worst season. I've never been a commish, so why start now.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) I can't put away a basketball without making the last shot, even if it's just a simple 360 roundhouse slam from the freethrow line, or a layup I'm the same way and I've even instilled this in my son. With me, it's gotten to the point where I have to make at least a 20 footer and it has to be nothing but net.
