  1. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) I will be much more inclined to support Richar when he gets his batting average above the Brian Anderson line and stops speaking to Greg Walker. I like what little I've seen of him, but I know what you mean about the BA. If he gets it above the Brian Anderson line then I may get excited.
  2. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) Richar homers. I was feeling a homer but for Uribe. Well, I'll take this. And Owens with his 3rd (!) hit.
  3. Charlotte has the day off. 6. QUOTE(max power @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 05:14 AM) I think a lot of people here are happy about it. Not me. I don't really give a s*** about a top ten draft pick. I don't think any one is "happy" about it. But, if the Sox are going to suck then they might as well REALLY suck and get a really good high pick. Who would be happy with a 80 win season? Or a 77 win season? I still follow the team and hate every loss and love every win, but with each loss I still think....hmmmm, closer to a really good pick, which will be much better for the Sox (and us) in the long haul. And , while this is embarrassing to be so bad, trust me it's been way worse and more embarrassing.
  7. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Only 1 earned for Egbert. Ooops, sorry.
  8. Charlotte and Haeger lost 7-2. Haeger was not all that bad but Aardsma was. Haeger: 7 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 Ks. Aardsma: 1 IP, 4 R. Collaro: 2-4, HR (1st at Charlotte, 20th overall this year). Egbert with a fine start: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 Ks Malone got the W (2-6, 4.62). Getz: 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI (.295). http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...mobaax_biraax_1 W-S down 5-0 mounted a comeback but fell short 5-4. Omogrosso: 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 Ks (6-8, 4.05). 9. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) I saw him down in ST this year, and this kid is basically a twig. From what i remember about him, he seemed to have a decent arm from the outfield but i think he still needs to grow into his body a little bit. I don't know if it's been mentioned or not (elsewhere) but he's Carlos Martinez' kid. Carlos is the ex-Sox player who hit the long flyball which bounced off of Jose Canseco's head for a homer. I don't remember Carlos as being thin but he was listed at 6' 5" and 175 lbs. Carlos died a little more than a year ago at age 41.
  10. Shelby is on a bit of a rampage. Tonight, he and teammate Mike Grace combined for 10 rbi. Shelby has hit in 21 straight games going 34-93, 7 HR and 27 rbi. For the season, Shelby is now batting .297. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp
  11. The Sox agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Charlie Shirek, the 23rd-round selection in the 2007 Draft. Shirek, 21, pitched for the University of Nebraska. He led all Big 12 freshmen with a 3.23 ERA in 2006. 2007, not so good (2-7, 6.39, opponents BA .321). The previous year opponents BA was just .257. Scouting report: Tops out in the low 90s with a heavy sink and can locate four pitches for strikes.
  12. Charlotte lost 12-9. Masset: 5 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 3 HR Nunez with a blown save took the loss. Sweeney: 1-4, R, BB, K Collaro: 2-5, 2 2B, RBI K. Perez: 4-5, 2B, 3 RBI Lucy: 2-5, 2B Rogo: 3-4, 3 R, HR, RBI, BB http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...louaaa_chraaa_1 Birmingham won 10-6. McCulloch: 5 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 6 K F. Hernandez: W, 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K Getz: 3-5 (all singles) Mercedes: 2-4, R, HR (GS), 5 RBI http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...mobaax_biraax_1 Winston-Salem won 2-0. Derek Rodriguez with a CG shutout (11-5, 4.00). 9 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K Valido: 1-4, 2B, R Schnurstein: 1-4, solo homer (22) http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_salafa_1 Kanny lost 6-1. Rasner (5-10): 7IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K Miranda: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB Shelby: 1-4, 2B http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_savafx_1 Great Falls won 4-1. Rosario(2-4): 4 IP, 9 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 2 K L. Johnson: 1-2, BB J. Martinez: 1-4, R, BB, K (.294) http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...brirok_gvlrok_1
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Any relation to another former White Sox outfield product who came up in the 80's? Dave Gallagher? Nope. Not unless it's distant.
  14. Jim, drafted out of Duke as a center fielder, has played left field for Great Falls. He's put up very solid numbers, batting mostly in the cleanup spot. For the year, in 49 games, Jim is batting .332 with 18 doubles, 7 homers and 35 rbi. He has yet to commit an error. He'll turn 22 on Sept. 3rd.
  15. Great Falls keeps on rolling winning 4-3 in 10. Josh Morgan doubled in Salvador Sanchez with 2 outs. Mabee (2-0, 0.00) got the win. Gallagher and Morgan both went 3-5.
  16. And who could forget Chuck "The Rifleman" Connors, who didn't excel professionally at either basketball or baseball, but you still gotta respect that he was good enough to make it in 2 sports. And yeah, Bo has got to be the best of the best in the 2 sport category.
  17. I guess I know where you're coming from. I felt the same way after the Detroit series as I'm sure many did. And they come home and everything fizzles....again. I'm not in the area anymore, but if I were I probably wouldn't want to go to all that many games right now. The way I've always looked at it, we're not Cub fans. We don't go in great numbers to watch bad baseball. Don't get me wrong, I'd still go to some games because I love this team but there isn't anything to get excited about anymore and that sucks.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) So this was something more along the lines of a last minute scratch? Apparently.
  19. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) It is true, certain players are sometimes excused for various reasons. Two different times I went with a neighborhood group and heard the parents and kids expressing their disappointment that certain guys weren't signing. I seem to recall it was the starting pitcher and a bullpen guy or two. I'm not into autographs so I can't recall specifically, but I do know certain guys weren't signing those two times. Yeah. You can pick up a sheet on the day of the game which tells you who's signing and where. A few times I noticed players that were supposed to be there weren't, evidently excused for whatever reason. No big deal.
  20. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) De Busschere made the right career choice. I remember when Forster and Gossage were Sox stars of the future. Sadly, I suppose you're right about the career decision. However, he may have been a star pitcher for many years. Remember he was only 22, I think, when he retired from baseball.
  21. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:03 AM) and 1/2 this team thinks it's been the off season for 2 months now. LOL! Nice shot.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Even if it WAS it still doesn't require them to be there any earlier. And respectfully I would bet against you on that one. Same here. I don't think most hate it. When my kids were little. I stood in line with them and chatted with a few players. They seemed to genuinely enjoy it. A. J. is A. J., it doesn't bother me or surprise me. I'm sure that there have been a few guys through the years who didn't exactly like it, but like someone said, it's just a short part of the day and as for those guys....that's just the way some guys are. Not everyone is kid or fan friendly.
  23. Figured something like this would come along after a dreadful game like yesterday. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aop0...o&type=lgns
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) The guy is becoming a pitcher in the closers role. And that makes him pretty damn dangerous for the opposition. Congrats to the Big Guy on this great accomplishment. His WHIP for the season is under 1, and his second half WHIP is .38. That second half WHIP is absolutely insane. Congrats Bobby! What an outstanding feat.
