  1. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) Greg I'm going to miss your old avatar Here comes our hottest hitter. Come on Paul, let's tie this one up/take the lead Charlie will come back, we needed new mojo for a while. I felt a need to have a half dressed person like other people.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) It's a joke right now that the Braves keep playing Franco at 1b. Couldn't the Braves at least go out and get Ross Gload.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) They're the best team in that division, and it's not even close. They have two guys in Zambrano and Lilly who just won't lose now, and they have a pretty strong bullpen that's avoided blowing games lately. And of course, we had to know that J. Jones would end up contributing to them after they tried to get rid of them. At this point, I've given up on them not making the playoffs, and I'm just rooting for the teams they'll have to play to upgrade at the deadline. Recent injuries to Peavy, Young, Lowe, and Beltran are the types of thing that I hope we don't see a lot of down the stretch. Well if there is a good side to the Cubs making the playoffs, maybe Mr. Reinsdorf allows Kenny to spend a little more this off season knowing that you can buy your way into contention and attract fans.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) If the Braves somehow do acquire Tex, forgot about it. K.Johnson Renteria C.Jones Tex A.Jones McCann Francoeur Harris Stacked. WOW. That is one hell of a lineup, even with A.Jones having an off year. Now they just need Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux to pitch knowing that they have an offense.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Seriously? That's rather f***ed up. I don't want anybody that has a chance to knock the Cubsout of the playoffs to have Count. ...Not to worry, COunt isn't going anywhere soo anyway.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) And now you need an ass whippin...
  7. The Twins have also been falling just as hard out of the playoffs as the WHite Sox. I think they are only 5 or 6 games up on us now and getting ready to watch the playoffs from home. The Twins could help somebody.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) I have been following the rest of the league a lot closer since the Sox have been out of it, and I still beleive the Braves-Mets-Pads(when Peavy and Young are both healthy) and maybe even the Phils have better squads than the Cubs. I would love to see one of Braves-Mets-Pads add Dye. I hope none of them have interest in Cont. The Phil also have been quietly very good.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) I think Boston's the best team in the AL. Hawk keeps saying it's the Tigers, but then he talks about how the Sox could never be good this year because their bullpen has been bad. The Red Sox bullpen is amazing compared to the Tigers. The Angels have a pretty good offense too, but their starting pitching isn't looking good enough to get past the first round.
  10. OT, are the Tigers the best team in the AL? In the NL, I don't think anybody will stop the Cubs now that they are rolling. ... there it hurts like hell, but I said it.
  11. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) The Tigers have 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. By the time this inning is over, it will be 5-2 DET If that's not enough, maybe Ozzie could bring Contreras in.
  12. I am so pissed off right now. Come on Cubs ... start sucking :fthecubs The Cubs are the best team in baseball right now. It won't go on forever, will it?
  13. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) ... I think you missed the joke. Starting a similar thread would cause the Cubs to collapse into suckiness like the Brewers have since this thread opened.
  14. Yeah, maybe it is time to blow this thread up and forget it existed. Maybe we can start a love for the Cubs thread.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) Vizquel has been one of the worst players in baseball this season, possibly the worst. I imagine he'll retire after this season rather than embarrass himself again next year. IMO, he might see himself as too close to 3,000 hits to retire.
  16. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Considering they asked me for a donation after I filled out the information I have to pass. You could have my name but I have never in my life had to pay for my opinion to count. That was my thinking. Giving money smells of scam.
  17. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/unbanjoe/index.html PLEASE SIGN Normally I am all for this type of thing and I am currently a part of several Un-ban Joe Jackson organizations, but I question the legitimacy of this organization. What is this ipetition group?
  18. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) am i the only one who feels that canseco has come out of this entire steroid controversy looking at least somewhat respectable? i am kind of shocked that i feel this way, but in some sense his public image is higher than just about all those who testified in front of congress (palmeiro, mcgwire, sosa) and maybe im naive to feel this way, but i believe the stuff that comes outa his mouth more so than anyone.....i know it was basically greed that brought this all out of him, but in some sort of invisible hand of public relations, his greed has actually put him in a better situation than the others You know, I still feel like Canseco is a shiester, but less of one than Bonds, Sheffiled, and Co. In that way, I guess I agree with you.
  19. Canseco reacts to big mouth Schilling: He lied before Congress and he was reprimanded for it," according to Canseco. "What a horrendous performance he put on with the spotlight on him in front of the whole world and he could have said something important. Of all people to be saying something like that. Are you kidding me? He's a complete hypocrite. Nobody takes him seriously. People around baseball all feel the same way about him. Canseco Responds
  20. Will the White Sox be doing some scouting today for 18 years from now?
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) If Jose is really 50 years old as he appears to be, the Sox should try to void the contract. He's done. Just release him. We won't get squat for him in a trade. Some Class A guys that will never pan out is all he's worth. hmmm ... I wonder if they could void it if they proved he lied about his age.
  22. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) tim kurkjian said on baseball tonight that KW was really stirring the pot yesterday with alot of trade talk...and he actually thinks contreras will still be traded..... last year maddux was traded for cesar izturis...now maddux was a FA at the end of the year and jose isn't, but considering how awful he has been and hes owed 10 mil, i can't see us getting anything more than a C prospect and hope like hell someone takes on the majority of his contract Dear Jesus, Please let what daa84 is saying be true. Let somebody else take Contreras. Oh, and please make the Cubs un-good again. Greg the Bull
  23. Perspective Contreras ERA is now 6.22, and I suspect his record will be 5-13 after tonight. To put things in perspective, Jamie Navarro's worst year with the SOx was 1998 ERA 6.36 with an 8-16 record Memory Lane - 6.36 Navarro Drive
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) I was about to post the same thing. Hawk is such an idiot and proves it more every game. His novelty act has worn off. Time for him to go. Is there a broadcaster retirement home or do we have to wait for him to die like Harry Carey?
  25. ... and so trading Contreras just got harder. Ozzie should have taken him out in the 2nd and said he had food poisoning or something.
