  1. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) damnit. Leroy Hunt Related to former Sox legend Rusty Kuntz or does Leroy have a brother named Mike?
  2. I forgot there was a game tonight. Did we lose yet?
  3. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:57 PM) go to mlb.com s thang and click the video link. you can watch his motion and then end of his delivery is bizarre. you get a good idea from the profile view of it His follow through is kind of weird, like he is still throwing the ball even after he released it. It is a far from smooth delivery, but not necessarily bad. If it is "bad", these things can be adjusted.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) Round 3, Pick 119 RHP John Ely, Miami (OH) Ely, the third straight pitcher picked by the Sox, is more like former Sox first rounders Lance Broadway and Kyle McCulloch. Known as a "solid pitcher" who is a fierce competitor, Ely throws a fastball around 92 mph, as well as a changeup and a curve. The fastball and the changeup are his best pitches, while his curve is still developing. Ely also owns a somewhat violent throwing motion that makes him harder to hit. The phrase "violent throwing motion" is somewhat concerning. I know virtually nothing about this guy, but poor mechanics (which I assume is implied by the throwing motion comment) tends to preclude injuries/arm troubles.
  5. I like this pick a lot. I think everybody likes this pick ...
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Command issues? He walked 15 guys in 100 innings. Perhaps they were more serious walks ... like on only four pitches?!?!?
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) You know what, if Porcello was off the board or announced that he was going to go to college, I wouldn't be so opposed to the pick. But passing on Porcello makes me hate Poreda. Just curious, but are you actually Homer Simpson?
  8. We could all hopeless exagerate his potential and call him a left handed Roger Clemens!
  9. Thank you Shannon Stewart for making an otherwise s***ty day, a little more tolerable.
  10. Let's go Oakland, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) Just watched some video of Porda on mlb.com. Not a lot of life on his fastball, which explains the low K rate. Cooper doesn't have have a good track record with teaching lefties good offspeed pitches. Coop can't fix him ?!?!?!
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) NOT TO JINX HIM, BUT SCHILLING HAS A NO-HITTER THRU 8. Pardon me swear filter, But Schilling is an A$$ Whole. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) Jackson off the board at 45. Dam.
  13. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) Take a breath and ease up.
  14. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) For the record, as asked above, Kip Wells was the 1st rounder in 1998 with Rowand going 35th overall. ... And Kip Wells has already won lost 10 games this year. I remember when he was projected as our #2 starter until traded to Pittsburgh for somebody that I blocked out in my mind.
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Chris Rongy? If it was, he would just hang up on us.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) What's the more annoying argument: - if you know so much, then why aren't you managing in the majors? or - if you think such and such team is so good, then why don't you become a fan of that team? The "Bad Fan" card is the most annoying easily.
  17. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) people who are pissed have reasons to be pissed. Look at the standings. Look at the lineup. Look at the payroll. And look at the list of top draft picks. McCullough Broadway Fields Anderson Ring Honel Borchard Stumm I can't remember 1998, but I don't think his bust in headed for Cooperstown. Might have been Matt Ginter. Until we show we can draft a quality player and develop him, we need to complain loud enough for the folks in the front office to hear. Yes.
  18. I am beginning to think Ribbie is incapable of leveling any criticism against the White Sox organization. You speak in absolutes. "If you don't like what the White Sox are doing, you are a bad White Sox fan." Chill out and agree to disagree.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) And I don't see any problem with that. At the very least, by taking Porcello you're keeping him out of the hands of two of the better teams in the AL, the Yankees and the Tigers. And hey, if you don't sign him and he goes to play for UNC, you're drafting twice in the top 30 next year to add onto any supplemental picks from Dye, Iguchi and Buehrle. I'm on your side on this one, trust me. ... and as a side note, any supplemental picks next year must be non-Boras clients. I'm so sick of the s***.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) Nope -- if Detroit doesn't sign them, they get the same pick in next year's draft as compensation. That's what I said. The only difference is that they wait a year to draft again.
  21. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Makes the pick a little better for me to know that Poreda won't be 21 until October. We could have done worse. Now I really get to pray that Porcello makes it to UNC. This raises an interesting point. It is going to take $$$ to keep Pocello from going to college. Detroit may have wasted a pick(which they will get back in new drafting rules) if Porcello decides he can make more $$$ after college and possibly be the #1 pick then.
  22. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) If the SS is still there, Jackson, they will take him is my guess. In the second round, that would be a great pick IMO. I don't he will still there though. I read the Sox and interested and one can wish ...
  23. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Where on earth did you read that he has arm trouble? The line "... but was awkward and had suspect arm action." seems to suggest potential for future mechanical problems.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) this hard-assed Scott Boras client thing... I'm done with it... its basically our organization saying we're going to ignore top talent on princicple, and then watching our #1 competition laugh while they jack off to Porcello's stat lines That's a great quote. Be careful, if Mariotti is watching, he may steal it.
