QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) Buehrle. And it will always be Buehrle unless he's injured or he's gone. BTW, I personally would like to see it be Count. Yeah, the way Count pitched the second half of 05 and thru the postseason, he more than deserves it. It is hard to imagine him not getting 20 wins next year.
-
The Sox play Cleveland opening day at the Cell, so who will be the Opening Day Starter? B-Mac would be the most rested, then Count with 162 days off, Mark, Jon, and El Duque would have 159 days off, and Freddy would have the least rest at 158 days. I am going with Buehrle.
-
From Sun-Times I just don't see the Sox giving up Count or B-Mac to gain someone like Delgado, while also losing Paulie. There is no way that will happen. I have to believe that Paulie will sign with the Sox, and he will probably get the 5 year deal he wanted.

Only 3rd Manager to win Manager of the Year that was a former Rookie of the Year, and he did it in a 20 year span (1985-2005). He also won a World Series too. Pretty impressive resume. Ozzie es el hombre!
-
Congrats Ozzie, you definitely deserve it! Should have been a run away vote, but it definitely shows the media bias against the Sox. Ozzie was not even on all 28 ballots, he was left off one completely. I wonder who left him off. Here is the top 4: ----- 1st - 2nd - 3rd - Total Ozzie - 17 - 5 - 5 - 105 Wedge - 6 - 11 - 8 - 71 Torre - 4 - 7 - 2 - 43 Macha - 1 - 3 - 7 - 21 Torre gets 4 First place votes? With that lineup and you lose in the ALDS? Zimmer could have done that.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) Q-After wanting the Sox to win for so long and to have them come through and make this the best winter ever ... somebody asked me if I'd be as much a fanatic next season and seasons to come. I ask you the same question. Will you "want it as much" next year? Will you sweat out every game as you probably did this year? Be mad at baserunning blunders when we lose or if Garland walks 7 in 3 innings? Or if Marte walks two guys and we lose the opener, 7-6? Will you be AS passionate as before now that we've won the crown is all I'm asking? I definitely want it as much. Yes, this season was magical because no one thought the Sox would be there (except the loyal fans). Next year it is a whole new twist. The Sox are the champs that everyone is trying to knock off. Also, a repeat is a huge achievement in this era of baseball, unless you are the Yankees and you just buy them. I actually cannot wait for the 2006 season to start. I am more excited for opening day next year as I was this year.

He might be, but he is only 31, and he shouldn't command that much money on the market after .240, 11HR, and 29 RBI. The Sox took a shot on AJ, Pods, JD, Uribe, and Gooch, and they all worked out pretty well. I think Doug still has 3-4 more decent years left, and his glove would be an upgrade. Just a thought. Pods BA was only .244 last year, and his OBP was .314, which was not that good for a leadoff man. The Sox took a chance and it worked out. I am just looking for a guy like Doug who like AJ, may just need a change of scenery to get back on track. His connection with AJ and his post season experience would be a plus.
-
What do you guys think about Doug Mientkiewicz, former Gold Glove and .300 hitter, has been in a rut with the Mets, played with AJ in Minnesota, and has post season experience with Boston (kept the ball)? If Paulie goes for more money, the Sox should be able to get him fairly cheap, and he would solidify an already strong defense and add some OBP hitting. Then the Sox can pick up a power hitter to play DH (Thomas), or have JD platoon with another outfielder at DH and RF. What do you think? If Paulie goes would this even be a remote possibility?
-
I will be surprised if the Sox give Paulie anything more than $13 million over 5. They can afford it, but that would be a huge risk in the 4th and 5th years. If they set a precedence with Paulie by "showing him the money", then guys like Crede (400k) and Pods (700k - All-Star) will be due some big raises in the near future as well. Something will have to give. 2005 Salaries Paul Konerko $ 8,750,000 Jose Contreras $ 8,500,000 Freddy Garcia $ 8,000,000 Frank Thomas $ 8,000,000 Mark Buehrle $ 6,000,000 Jermaine Dye $ 4,000,000 Carl Everett $ 4,000,000 Orlando Hernandez $ 3,500,000 Jon Garland $ 3,400,000 Tadahito Iguchi $ 2,300,000 A.J. Pierzynski $ 2,250,000 Juan Uribe $ 2,150,000 Dustin Hermanson $ 2,000,000 Aaron Rowand $ 2,000,000 Luis Vizcaino $ 1,300,000 Damaso Marte $ 1,250,000 Timo Perez $ 1,000,000 Cliff Politte $ 1,000,000 Scott Podsednik $ 700,000 Chris Widger $ 500,000 Joe Crede $ 400,000 Willie Harris $ 365,000 Ross Gload $ 335,000 Neal Cotts $ 330,000 Pablo Ozuna $ 330,000

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) Konerko in 05: Road: .276 BA, 17 home runs, .863 OPS. Home: .292 BA, 23 home runs, .959 OPS. That is not that bad, only 6 less HR's. You would think that would have been alot more. That seems to be about the norm for Home and Away. For the Sox, Gooch and Pods had the greatest deviation from Home to Away, but guys like AJ, Crede, Uribe, Rowand, and Everett hit better for average away. Dye was pretty consistent everywhere. Politte was unstoppable away with a 1.000 BA.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) i agree. He is so inconsistent. This year really showed that. I was really glad when the trade deadline passed because I thought he would have been a big mistake. He is probably a #3 or #4 starter at best, and he is going to get #1 or #2 starter money. I guess for some teams that don't have a legitimate #1 or #2 guy, he is going to look really good. It will be interesting to he how he does in the AL if he comes over.

Most of the Texas players have inflated stats at Home, Soriano's is one of the biggest: Soriano HOME - .315, 25HR, 73 RBI, 1.144 OPS AWAY - .224, 11HR, 31 RBI, .639 OPS Blalock HOME - .297, 20HR, 63 RBI, .895 OPS AWAY - .231, 5 HR, 29 RBI, .611 OPS Teixeira HOME - .334, 30HR, 88 RBI, 1.109 OPS AWAY - .270, 13HR, 56 RBI, .809 OPS Really hard to gauge how good they really are with this type of drop off. The only guy that is consistent for them is Michael Young.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) i think Washburn is very underrated and he might be the best pitcher in the market. Look at it this way: Times Washburn has won 15 or more games- 1. Burnett- 0. On that note, Burnett is also overrated. He has a lifetime 49-50 record and a 3.73 career ERA in the NL. He reminds me a lot of Jeff Weaver. Burnett has some upside with his good stuff, but I would go with Millwood over Burnett or Washburn.

This is more of a popularity contest, and they are voted on before the end of the regular season by coaches and managers. I am sure the voting for Hunter and Rowand was really close.
-
What is the possibility of Dye and Anderson splitting time between RF and DH?
