  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:50 AM) BTW, interesting difference in shopping at stores in Mexico vs. US. The Walmart type stores all expect to have their employees put everything away. As a customer, you are a guest, and shouldn't be expected to fold stuff or restock the shelves for them. Yep. When I am shopping at Nordstroms I barely get out the dressing room door before they are taking what I am not buying and putting it away. I hate that store with a passion, but the associates there are top notch. Young ones as well as the older ones.
  2. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) See, it was all about closure with Frank. He wanted to leave Chicago as big an egotistical prick as when he first arrived. That is just so disappointing. Believe it or not, Frank, you still are not above the team concept in baseball...nearly 500 homers later. I've known Frank since day one, and believe it or not he was very, very humble when he first came up. He was extremely worried that he would not succeed and thought several times about going to football. He was scared s***less his first 2 years with the Sox, and really didn't start getting a s***ty attitude for quite a few years. Most of it stemmed from the Sox wanting him to be more of a leader - a role he is sooo uncomfortable with as noted many times. I wonder if they had left him alone on that issue would he be different. In any event, I wish the old Frank was still around...
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:24 AM) Yuch. I was thinking you meant like dirty floors, carpet, etc. There are a couple 15 year old WalMarts south of me that I will not go into, but most are very clean. I also visit Target for a few things, but they never seem to have enough cashiers open. I go to K-Mart for the feel of being the only one in a huge store. It's like walking into White Hen, just a clerk and me. I have no idea how the K-Marts here survive. There is never anyone in them here either (at least the one in Plainfield).
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:45 AM) Yeah I am curious if there is more to this story too. He seemed to be getting it during the last couple of years with Ozzie as the manager. I cannot imagine with Oz as Mgr and KW as GM that he didn't know anything. Until proven otherwise, I just can't believe that, it doesn't make any sense. The thing is, he made so many comments at the wedding that clearly indicated that he knew he was done and that it was going to be HIS CHOICE was to walk away with the ring. I haven't seen him since mid November.. but at that time he was still in a ton of pain while walking without the boot... The injury isn't healed. And I think he'll crash and burn. I'm sad to say it, but that''s my prediction.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) He also complains that KW left him a voice mail instead of talking to him. Remember when he wouldn't answer KW's calls a couple of years ago? It was the offseason, and that was his right, but KW obviously called him. Hey Frank, if a talk is what you want, answer your phone. A rumor dispelled at Soxfest. You might not recall but someone did some finger wagging at Kenny and he cleared up the story. :rolly
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:40 AM) I guess each region as it own standards. It probably also helps we don't have snow and all that comes with it. I don't think snow has anything to do with the bathrooms not being stocked or cleaned, the dressing rooms having clothes from previous customers all over the place, toys in toy department all over the place from ignorant parents letting their kids play while they shop, and they also have issue with putting away stock. Every single time I go into one there are pallets of s*** everywhere BUT on the shelves they belong on... The shoe department.. oy vey.. don't even get me started on the shoe department. We buy a lot of the kids clothes at Target (me) and Wal-Mart (my mom and sister) because they grow out of them so fast... but the way Wal-Mart is here I am almost afraid to buy them stuff from there. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the pride of the employees. Up here they seem just not to care. The Wal-Mart in Orlando where my sister used to live was always amazingly clean.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:24 AM) Yes, plus the product offerings are different. It also depends on which Target and which Walmart. They are opening a bunch of new Super Walmarts here, which are very clean. To beat K-Mart, Walmart went cheaper and Target went with better merchandise. We have a ton of new Wal-Marts here (super and regular) and they stay nice for a few months then they go to hell. The employees seem not to care. The Target that's been around for 4 years is cleaner then the Wal-Mart that opened just last month already. It's nasty.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:03 AM) Geesh. After last season I thought Frank had matured when it came to this kind of stuff. All he had to do was say "thank you Chicago" and move on. Instead he has to take a shot at everyone again. And in all seriousness what did he expect? He has had major season ending surgeries in 3 of the last 5 or 6 years, did he honestly expect the Sox to do nothing and sit and wait for him again? Could he seriously not see the writing on the wall? His last two injuries are directly related to his size wreaking havoc on his body, and the Sox were just supposed to assume he would be OK? Sad. Really sad. Tell me about it Mike... After all that was said at the wedding this is the last thing I expected. Seriously. I'm floored. It will be interesting to hear what, if anything, went down from then to now.
  9. Wal-Mart is just dirty.. I don't understand why people shop there over Target. I don't pay attention... are the prices that much different?
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) As a frequent B.A.S.S. tournament watcher, Mike Iaconelli is one of my favorite fisherman. The man is a lunatic but very entertaining...all while being one of the top anglers on tour as well. He's yelled at numerous fish, screamed in childish glee after catching a few, and he even break dances on the f***ing boat after he catches a monster. Whats not to like about the guy??? Is he more crazy then a younger Rolin (sp?) Martin..? My dad used to watch that stuff when I was a kid.. holy crap was it boring.... :sleep
  11. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) That's pretty cool. Unless you're Superman. Then you're f***ed. OMG. If YOU'RE Superman, then we're all f***ed. ROTFLMAO!!!
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:21 AM) HE GONE!!!!!!!!!!!! Shouldn't you be packing or something...
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 01:06 AM) Hmmm, maybe staying healthy for a full season? In his defense, his injuries were freak, and major. He did give a lot here, can't deny that... but he knows this business just about as well as anyone else. I have to be completely honest here... nothing, and I mean NOTHING over the past 4 months gave ANY indication that this would happen. The feeling was that he would retire and continue his relationship with the Sox in another capasity. Something happened... perfect timing for Soxfest - a.k.a. get the dirt fest.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) I know there are many insiders that think the change from Thomas to Thome will make the Sox clubhouse infinitely better. And that has what to do with his tact...?
  15. You'd think Frank would learn some tact as he ages... :headshake
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) If you owned a blackberry, you would know why sometimes its necessary I have a Trio, which is similar, and I don't have to do that...? Is it because the person on the other end can't hear when using the blackberry..?
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) I don't think we have anything... I'll check though. Don't bother unless you find something that can be folded up and put in a bag or backpack.. can't bring a cooler in to the fest. We'll just have to drink them before they get warm.. LOL.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Very true. And thank goodness for White Palace runs where we turn a normal car into a clown car How we manged to fit everyone I still don't know, but it was worth it. 4 stick people and 4 regular sized people in a Honda Civic made for no more then 5... good times, good times...
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Steff this "child" is an highschool id say thats past the innocent stage.....and this "child" was the one making the hissy fit about not having a social life because of omg HOMEWORK! While it amazes me that a parent would do their kids HW and sickens me at the same time.... saying an "innocent child" is a bit much. A lot of posters here are in highschool or just their 1st/2nd year of college and I wouldnt call them innocent children. Stupid WHARRIS being on the sports know it all poll instead of me! If this highschooler can't do her homework.. and counts on mommy and daddy to make things right for her.. then she's a child - mentally. Seriously.. there are posters in here YOUNGER then this child likely is and they KNOW that this is simply retarded, do you all not...?
  20. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) WOW! I am the luckiest person ever. Less than a day before Soxfest, I have no tickets. But I just got a call from a person I barely know. Looks like I'll be staying over night and attending all 3 days. Can't wait! Wood.. I posted I had extra's.. Thankfully you got some!
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) We all meet up at the bar every night after the fest ends. Heck that's where half of the fun comes anyways. Come on out and introduce yourselves, we love company Mike.. if you have a little 6 pack cooler please bring it tomorrow. We will need it to keep the beverages cold while waiting in line. I'm bringing cards. Maybe Monopoly also...
  22. Good Lord.. I'm still shaking my head over this one. This thread should be locked, and thrown far, far away. That people like this exist.. people that think that it's better to teach lying and cheating, is beyond disgusting. A child needs help.. and this thing ignores it. A child folks... an innocent child who has pulled the ultimate short straw in the daddy lottery. So sad.. so very sad. :headshake
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Especially anything involving some sort of hat. It was a headband.. not a hat. And I'm sorry.. but that was not even close to as hysterical as someone having to have EMS called on them cause they couldn't handle their liquor... :rolly
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) I think im on the top of the list. Not even close...
