QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) Good post. I've never really liked the early 1980 jerseys. I think the logo's cool, but I don't think I own a piece of merchandise with the logo. I have Seaver's jersey from the 300th game signed by him and Fisk. By far my fav item.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) This (drinking underage) is a victimless crime. Ugghhh... I must say it... Until one of those carefree teens hurts you or someone you love. Sorry Spiff... and I do know what you're saying... but this judge has a long and strong rep of being a hard ass on underage drinking. He was only trying to get them on the right track. Sadly.. it took a jail term to do it.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) If they were caught doing it in the act I'd agree but the judge is just being a sore ass. Only getting in trouble when caught in the act... There would be a lot of criminals on the streets..

Some more details.. Jim, it states 10 puppies. From the AP February 1, 2006 - A twisted crew of Colombian drug dealers turned purebred puppies into cuddly drug couriers by surgically implanting them with packets of liquid heroin, federal authorities said Wednesday. Ten puppies, including Labrador retrievers, were rescued during a 2005 raid on a farm in Colombia, the Drug Enforcement Administration said while announcing recent arrests in the two-year investigation. A local veterinarian had stitched 14 packets containing about 3 kilograms of heroin - worth roughly $200,000 wholesale - into the bellies of six pups. Three of the doggies later died from infection after the drugs were removed. The surviving dogs "are still alive and well, we're told," said John P. Gilbride, head of the DEA's New York office. Colombian police said they adopted three dogs, one of which was being trained to sniff for drugs. DEA investigators said they believe the drug ring, based in Medellin, Colombia, used the puppies and other methods to conceal millions of dollars in heroin on commercial flights into New York City for distribution throughout the East Coast. It was unclear how many dogs were used in the scheme, nor did investigators know their fate once they arrived on U.S. soil, Gilbride said. "I think it's outrageous and heinous that they'd use small, innocent puppies in this way," Gilbride said. "It just demonstrates what lengths drugs dealers will go to get drugs into the country." The puppy implants were the traffickers' inhumane take on the common practice of paying people to swallow dozens of drug-packed pellets made with condoms or latex glove fingers wrapped in tape. The couriers, called "swallowers," then take flights to U.S. cities, where they expel the drugs by going to the bathroom. Authorities said swallowers - who risk fatal overdoses if the pellets rupture in their stomachs - also were part of the heroin operation. Drugs also were concealed in body creams and aerosol cans and were sewn into the linings of purses and luggage. Recent raids in Colombia resulted in more than 20 arrests; another 10 suspects were in custody in New York, Florida and North Carolina. About 24 kilograms of heroin was seized. Colombia's national police gave a slightly different account of the investigation, describing two raids, with the second, on Wednesday, involving 20 arrests. They said they discovered a clandestine clinic where veterinarians had implanted six dogs with a total of 3 kilograms of heroin.

QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) no it doesn't require driving...your example of a DUI case does...which is why i found it irrelevant. Realize though there is a difference between the examples you gave, and what these kids did. I did say "or". I understand you are rationalizing on what you know, believe, or have experienced, but no I don't see the difference between an adult being put on probation for public intox.. violating it.. then serving the time for the violation. The punishment is not for the web site.. it's for drinking after being ordered not to. But like I said above, let's just agree to disagree. I definitely think I think differently because I've seen bad effects of "innocent underage drinking".

QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) the kids did not drive, they didn't harm anyone else, so comparisons to anything OTHER than MIP laws or drinking under age aren't relevant. The parents were pissed, and i didn't see them say they accepted the ruling, i only saw the "judge had a vendetta against the kids, as soon as he was personally involved he should have removed himself" and the one person who agreed with it was part of MADD, not involved... i still can't believe the kids got probation, my friend got a drinking under age ticket in high school at a party, paid like 200 bucks and had to go to a class. He got suspended for 3 days at the school. his punishment was actually harsher than others in that he had to go to a class. This is just some judge on his high horse trying to make the papers. I'm sure there are pictures of me drinking on facebook somewhere, doesn't really bother me. ANd i'm saying f*** the judge in all those pictures, too. Him bringing them back for 15 days of jail is just silly to me. Public intox doesn't require driving - and how they got caught at the prom. Drinking under age IS illegal.. and he could have imposed a harsher punishment from the get go.. But didn't. And got a slap in the face for it. Read the article again.. they got over it, pulled the ringleaders ass out of college, and took away her car. Polly's comments now: "Polly Meerschaert said the experience has taught her that parents can't be too careful. "Peer pressure is tremendous," she said. "Years ago, kids didn't think twice about getting a buzz. "Now, I'd say to parents, 'Check the purses. Check the limos. Talk to the limo driver. Find out who else is going.' I would second-guess everything." Will it still be silly if your kid drinks themself to death.. or, God forbid, does get behind the wheel and kills someone. Long time away... I know. Agree to disagree.

Found a few examples of getting suspended for out of school activities.. http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=2952666&nav=3YeXWPhg http://www.bloggingbaby.com/2005/10/28/tee...yspace-account/ http://www.kirotv.com/news/4524591/detail.html

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) Only thing i will never understand is when a highschool comes across pictures of drinking and they can suspend kids. Was not on there property, was not during school hours... likely on the weekend. Been a long time since I was in HS... but is this true or are you being facetious?

QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) An adult has a sandwich, puts on too many hot peppers, gets severe heartburn lets all think of great examples that don't pertain to this subject! How was it not relevant..?

I'd say the opinions of those without kids is moot. The parents - while pissed at first - agree with the punishment, and the 2 girls that got the most jail time do also. The one admitted she had a drinking problem. In the end, seems he did good.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) People like that needs a good old fashioned southside ass kicking. Use a f***ing doll or something, not a dead baby. Don't worry.. it's not true. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa092198.htm http://www.snopes.com/horrors/drugs/deadbaby.htm

An adult gets a DUI or public intox.. gets probation.. violates it and gets sent to jail. Want to play like an adult.. be prepared to pay like an adult.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Me and my wife celebrate Valentines day usually the week or so after the actual day. I bought her flowers the first year we were dating on valentines and she nearly killed me when she found out how much they cost. Her comment was that its a waste of time spending 3 times as much for items that you can get at another time for normal cost. Just remember people Valentines Day and Sweetest Day are 2 days a year. If you treat your wife/girlfriend/significant other great all the time, and keep the romance alive you dont have to go broke on these days to keep in good graces. It really makes a difference when you have kids. I have my inlaws watching our son here and there so we can still go to dinner from time to time, go to a movie, get out. Getting out once in a while alone is worth more than some chocolates and flowers once a year. 71.. I don't like the $150 dozen roses either. They just die. But they are nice when the other gals in the office walk by . A good alternative is ProFlowers (which is offering 2 dozen for $30 - I think- if you click on the microphone on the site (Stern Promotion) if you guys do buy flowers. I agree with doing little things all the time. You guys have no idea how far a little note or card for no reason goes. Jim travels occasionally for work and when he goes I pack him little notes or whatever to open. He leaves surprises for me all over the house or in the car when we don't drive together. It's cute, and shows you guys are thinking of us at a time we least expect it. And in the end it all equals sex so it's a win, win situation.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) Eww....TMI. Old ladies are hard to please I guess. Absolutely.. We have a Weider 7 station thing now. The cords have over time become loose and the butterfly thing doesn't work like it used to. I want something to work my legs differently. I've heard pros for both, but not enough either way to pull the trigger. The one advantage I have heard over and over again is that the Total is easy to open and close where the Bowflex pretty much has to stay open. That correct..? The last resort will be to just join the new YMCA they are opening in Plainfield. The charter membership is a bit high.. but it includes sessions with a personal trainer which I would probably end up doing soon anyway.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 06:14 PM) Steff, I pray all that has ended, but I don't share your optimism. In the past, school districts would dismiss someone to work elsewhere, sports teams would fire the coach, Little Leagues would fire the volunteer, families would not visit their "Uncle". If anything, all this attention, and a willingness of the public to not blame the victim, should have ended all this. Unfortunatly there is still a stigma for being a sexual abuse victim. There is still the trauma of testifying, and the most ridiculous to me, families that don't want to turn in a relative. That one pisses me off more than the others. The system will always be flawed... but, with evidence, the church appears to practice the "shhh...just go away" method the most.

The unit I have now is getting boring, and I'm not one for the gym. Any thoughts, pros, cons on one or the other? And how much space do they take up. Bowflex looks like it takes up a lot, but the website doesn't tell me specifics. TIA folks.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Pedophiles have come from all walks of life. If people are not going to Church because of a small number of pedophile clergy, then stay away from Doctors, teachers, cops, birthday clowns who do construction, keep your kids out of sports, off the beach, and away from your relatives, including your spouse. Noted. However, doctors, teachers, cops, birthday clowns who do construction, sports figures, beach goers, and relatives, etc, etc.. don't usually have co-workers who ask you to just quietly go "play" somewhere else.
