  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) Reading the words from Paul's mouth, it doesn't sound degenerative to me. Because, of course, you fully expect him to advise on how bad his condition might be.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) Konerko is 29 years old and I've never once seen anything about his hip anywhere but on message boards. So until I see someone write about it or Konerko himself tell me, I tend to think its an issue that was overly blown out of proportion. Just my 2 cents. He's also done nothing but play the past few seasons. Basically the only time I ever remember him missing games is for the ocassional off-day and his awful 2003 season. Aside from that he's been pretty much steady Paulie ever since joining the South Side (oh and there was the time back in 2000 when the Sox traded for Baines who was going to replace him, lol). From Paul's mouth... http://reds.enquirer.com/1998/11/4071.html Monday, November 16, 1998 BY The Cincinnati Enquirer CHICAGO - Paul Konerko was blessed with the quick wrists and powerful forearms that are key ingredients for a big-league hitter. Konerko did not come to the world, though, with ideal hips. But the 22-year-old first baseman, traded by the Reds to the Chicago White Sox last week, disputed reports in the Boston Globe that he has a hip condition that could threaten his career. "My hips don't hurt at all. It's just the way the bones are structured," Konerko said Sunday. "They're no better or worse than they were four years ago. And they won't be better or worse four years from now. "Look, if I had perfect hips, I still wouldn't be stealing 20 or 30 bases (a year). The hips are the least of my problems." "I don't have any concerns," said Sox General Manager Ron Schueler. "If it was legit, how could he be working out four days a week with a personal trainer?" If there was an injury, Schueler could seek to nullify the trade that sent Mike Cameron to Cincinnati for Konerko. It's called degenerative... the same thing Belle has. One day Belle was belting out homers, then next he could barely walk. It's something he has no control over, and cause for concern, IMO, when paying out millions of $$'s.
  3. A little update on this effing POS... http://www.local6.com/news/5288600/detail.html Brother: Joseph Smith Confessed To Raping, Killing Carlie Brucia POSTED: 2:47 pm EST November 9, 2005 SARASOTA, Fla. -- The brother of the man accused of raping and strangling Carlie Brucia wiped his eyes Wednesday as he recounted how his sibling admitted during a jailhouse talk and later phone conversations to sexually assaulting and killing the 11-year-old girl. John Smith said that his brother Joseph Smith told him that he had "rough sex" with Carly and then strangled her, making the confession during a telephone conversation from jail four nights after Carlie was abducted. The Feb. 1, 2004, abduction was taped by a car wash surveillance camera and later shown around the world. John Smith testified the cell phone conversation took place as he was leading investigators to the location where his brother had told him the girl's body might be found. Joseph Smith, a 39-year-old former auto mechanic and father of three daughters, is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and capital sexual battery in Carlie's death. He has pleaded not guilty; if convicted, he may face the death penalty. Four days after Carlie's disappearance, Joseph Smith met with his brother and their mother, Patricia Davis, in jail after his arrest on an unrelated charge. Under their questioning, he confessed to his role in Carlie's disappearance, John Smith testified. Mumbling and occasionally closing his eyes under questioning on the witness stand, John Smith reluctantly recounted the jailhouse conversation. His brother told him he had intercourse with the girl and made her perform oral sex. Crying, their mother left the room at the jail, and the brothers cried and "were hugging each other close," John Smith said. More - if you've gotten this far without :puke at link above.

  5. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) Jenks N/A???? Judging by these prices, he'd be $5000 for sure. Marte for $3500 is the best bargin I've ever seen. And no Frank...? He'd be $10K easy.
  6. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) Thats the name. I think I have seen that Autopsy special about 1500 times in the past year. I remember a few months ago when Karla got out of jail there was a really big deal about it, how many people thought that her husband took the fall even though she was an equal participant. Oh.. he didn't take the fall. She made a deal BEFORE they found the video tapes of her participating in the crimes so she didn't get an ounce of what she deserved. He's in jail for life.. like she should be. They MURDERED her sister for pete's sake.. after Karla had "given" her to Paul for Christmas. :puke

  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) This reminds me of that couple from Canada who were kidnapping young teenagers and raping and killing them. I always wonder how people can rationalize to themselves that they wont get caught doing something like this. Ahhh good old Karla Homolka... (sp?). Lucky little lady is out of prison now... she did her time.

    Blonde joke..

Bob, a biker, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 PM. He sat down next to this blonde at the bar and stared up at theTV. The 10:00 news was on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building preparing to jump. The blonde looked at Bob and said, "Do you think he'll jump?" Bob says, "You know, I bet he'll jump." The blond replied, "Well, I bet he won't." Bob placed a $20 bill on the bar and said, "You're on!" Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy on the ledge did a swan dive off the building, falling to his death. The blond was very upset and handed her $20 to Bob, saying, "Fair's fair. Here's your money." Bob laughed, "I can't take your money, I saw this earlier on the 5 o'clock news and so I knew he would jump." The blond replies, "I did too; but I didn't think he'd do it again."
  11. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) That place is White Sox Headquarters right now...for the burbs...Grandstand in the city. Them and Penny's. I can not believe all the stuff they both have.
  12. Praise the Lord.. I was not looking forward to the backlash had he not gotten it..
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) If they want to say the money was made illegally, that is one thing. Prosecute the company in the courts of law. But if all there is to say is that their profits are too big, I'll be waiting to see the Congress begin to drag in corporate CEOs from all industries in order to harass them about giving away their profits too. Personally I am waiting for the heads of companies such as GE, Intel, Microsoft, Coke, Time Warner, Citibank, Merck, Ebay, Google, JP Morgan, etc (moving companies ) in front of Congress so they can explain their ill-gotten gains, and can be told who they should give them back to. Uhhh... no.
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) See, I TRY to defend your honor and then you go and AGREE with the slanderer.... ...sometimes I wonder why I even bother.... Mad props for the effert, bro..

  16. QUOTE(rbloom03 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Anyone hear about Reebok Sox WS shoes? My mother-in-law read about it in the paper (probably Southtown). Don't know where they are available or what quantity. 2005 of them being made. IIRC.. you can get them at Dick's starting this weekend. (Don't quote me.. I was half asleep when I heard it on the news last night).
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) 1) You said that Ozzie and UU got along great when you saw them at the Ritz. Just because they got along great, it doesn't mean he's a great fit for this team in terms of personality. While someone like AJP had a bad reputation for being an ass off the field, he always was a tough SOB on the field. That's what KW wanted for this team. UU is much more about himself, which is something that it seems the Sox have been trying to clear themselves of recently. 2) I agree with you that Hermanson will probably have to have back surgery. 3) I definitely never recalled saying that the attempted murder charged should be shrugged off as no big deal. It will definitely scare off numerous teams from possibly signing him. 1. Yes I did. However where did I say that because of that, the Sox should sign him...? And, again, would you mind elaborating on how you know all these things about UU..? TIA. 3. You brought it up.. not I. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) You really don't think Urbina has some baggage? I've been told for years that he has an awful reputation within baseball, and recent events only scare me off more from him joining the Sox. Sure, he may very well be innocent of the crime....but it's not like being charged with attempted murder should just be brushed off like it's no big deal. Not that any of this matters and it's ruining the thread.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) 1. So we should bring in a player just cause him and Ozzie get along? 2. Also, what point would there be in having a 3 million dollar set-up man when you already have money invested in Hermanson and Politte to be the set-up men? 3. And to say attempted murder should be shrugged off is quite odd. Sure, Ray Lewis got off on the charges, but Rae Carruth sure didn't, etc. 1. Don't put words in my mouth. 2. Dustin is going to have back surgery 3. I didn't say it should... you did.
  19. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Uhhhhh......Steff?......Soxy?......any FEEDBACK on this remark???? I'm not a good source for debate on this issue. Admitted baseball nerd here...
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) And didn't he get drunk and fight a teammate on the Tigers or Phillies? And didn't Jenks get drunk on the team bus and attempt to start himself on fire..?
  21. UU had a 4.5 ERA in 2004, and then a 4.13 ERA in his time with the Phillies last year. We're not talking about the marquee closer that he once was. His fastball has lost like 8 mph in the last few years, and he'll still cost you at least 3 million. For our 5th or 6th reliever in the pen, give me Viz. In no way could I see UU having no problem not pitching but once a week. I don't know anything about him other then meeting him for 5 minutes in the Ritz bar - where I witnessed an extreme respect between him and Oz. Do I care what baggage he carries.. no, and I don't think the Sox do either. If they did.. then Bobby Jenks and AJ both would not have been on the '05 roster. Attempted murder is brushed off like no big deal for football players.. baseball players shouldn't get the same..? :rolly Would you care to elaborate on your experience with UU as to how you KNOW he would have an issue pitching once a week...? TIA.
  22. QUOTE(BMac41 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Matsui is going to end up back with the Yankees. Thank you Mrs Cleo...

    CC Scam..

Forwarded, forwarded, forwarded... WARNING...New Credit Card Scam. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. My husband was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on Thursday from "MasterCard". The scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?" You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?" Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7numbers; the first 4 are part of your cardnumber, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?" After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. Long story made short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost to late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason Richardson of MasterCard" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. Please pass this on to all your family and friends. By informing each other, we protect each other.
