QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) Sox in three games. Astros are terrifed by Sox overpowering play and quit midwat through game three down 14-0. having been outscored in the series 45-1. this is no joke. New playoff format..??

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) The other problem is tickets sold out in 18 minutes. How many people waiting in line would have been able to get tickets within that time frame, especially with the people in front of every ticket line you have ever been in checking section by section before making up their minds? But don't you think if it was done at the BO and via the Sox it would not have sold out in 18 minutes? The nature of the TM Beast. 50,000 TM outlets facilitated that.

QUOTE(maki @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) what if under their control they took care of what they needed and decided to give control of the remaining tix to the sox? I would have hoped they would have sold them at the box office to local fans and not via Ticketmaster where brokers all over the country could buy them and then attempt to rape Sox fans.. This has been a PR nightmare for the Sox. I don't think they would have done it intentionally. As a matter of fact.. from the email exchange with Brooks I posted here the other day.. I'm sure that isn't the case. Remember in 2000 you could buy them at the BO... this year no. The deal with TM went into effect in '03.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Sorry to miss the point, but how exactly did you guys find out that they realeased some more tix at 4:00 yesterday? Check Ticketmaster periodically. As CC's are declined they re-release the tickets.

QUOTE(maki @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) i think we a ll need to relax a little here. unless you're the one who controls the handling of the tickets the info you provide is subject to interpretation, on all sides. I don't see it being subject to interpretation when it's been stated "Due to the policies and proceedures of MLB, WHICH CONTROL ALL ASPECTS OF POSTSEASON PLAY, the White Sox must strictly inforce the following...." But you're right. It's a stupid argument... until Soxfest

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) I do not have White Sox season tickets. However, among other events, I have been to 3 of the last 5 All Star Games and went to the 2004 World Series. I paid face price for these tickets. Again, let me reiterate. I'm pretty sure on this one. As a season ticket holder I'm going to go from the info on the official releases from the Sox and MLB.

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) :banghead Ever see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? When they are walking through catacombs in Venice, the German woman points at some drawings on the walls and asks Indy what a particular one is. Indy says, "That's the Ark of the Covenant." She replies, "Are you sure?" "Pretty sure." I'd say I'm pretty sure on this one. BB I thought you had season tickets.. did you not get the playoff rules? If you're not, disregard as continuing is pointless.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) Um... did you actually read the whole article? First, it uses the phrase "preferred provider". That is not the same as a contractual obligation. Second, it says nothing in there about what the details of the deal are regarding extent of control, and it still falls just fine into what Black Betsy pointed out. MLB's chunk goes through Ticketmaster, probably, as the "preferred" provider. The other tickets, well, we still don't know, do we? Ummm.. Yes, I did. Did you read what I posted from the post season ticket agreement..? Word for word from the Sox and MLB...? I comprehend the comments from the Sox and MLB just fine, so I know. Where the Sox are concerned, MLB controls their postseason tickets. I don't know, care, or give a crap what other teams do, how they do it, or why they do it. It appears to me from this article that it's possibly Ticketmaster that chooses sale methods. But again.. I really don't care.

QUOTE(maki @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) not 100% true. what about the lovely scrubs? Ask someone who gives a s*** about the Cubs and buys their tickets.

The deal makes Ticketmaster the site's preferred provider for all online ticketing services, including ticket sales, printing them at home, selling other tickets in online auctions and managing season ticket accounts.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051020/ap_en_...DRrBHNlYwM3NjI- Michael Jackson Called for Jury Service 1 hour, 55 minutes ago SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Authorities want Michael Jackson back in court — this time as a juror. Jackson received a jury summons at his Neverland Valley Ranch, four months after he was acquitted of child molestation charges. "It's just one of those ironies of life that he'd be called as a juror," said Laurie Levenson, a professor at Loyola School of Law who monitored Jackson's trial. It's unlikely that Jackson will show up for jury selection. His lawyers have filed paperwork for a deferment based on the fact that he now lives in Bahrain. "He is permanently living outside of the United States," Thomas Mesereau, who defended Jackson against the child molestation charges, said Wednesday. Jury Commissioner Gary Blair said Jackson likely will be excused from serving. "All he has to do is show he has legal residency somewhere else and he'll be exempted," Blair said. Blair said he summoned Ronald Reagan when he was president but granted him a deferment until he was out of office. Actress Bo Derek, also a local resident, received at least two jury summonses and served on one panel without incident.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051020/ap_on_...2MwBHNlYwM3Mzg- Chinese Police Probe Online Baby Auction CHRISTOPHER BODEEN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 43 minutes ago SHANGHAI, China - Shanghai police are investigating an online ad offering babies for sale on the Chinese subsidiary of auction Web site eBay, the company said Thursday. The ad was deleted shortly after it was placed Sunday and relevant information has been turned over to investigators, a spokesman for the Eachnet Web site said. "We took measures as soon as we received complaints from customers," said the spokesman, who gave only his surname, Tang. "Then we called the police and now they are investigating." Media reports said the ad offered baby boys for 28,000 yuan ($3,500) and girls for 13,000 yuan ($1,600), reflecting the traditional Chinese preference for males. It promised to deliver infants within 100 days of birth. "Our aim is to send good news to the thousands of couples around the country who are unable to have children," the site was quoted as saying by the Shanghai Morning Post. The newspaper said it learned of the ad from a reader. A Shanghai police spokeswoman said she had no information on the case and suggested it was being handled by a district bureau. However, no such case had been registered in Shanghai's Huangpu district, where the site has its offices, said an officer who answered the phone at that police station. Neither officer would give their name, a common practice among Chinese officials. China has an active black market in babies and young women, who are bought or abducted and sold to couples who want another child, a future bride for a son or a household servant. Chinese law allows punishments up to death for people who sell infants, along with lesser penalties for buyers and brokers. However, the law doesn't say whether an offer of such a sale alone constitutes a crime. Tang, the Eachnet spokesman, said the identity of the purported seller was unclear and it wasn't known whether the offer was serious or an attempt at fraud. "The seller is very strange. They never bought or sold anything on Eachnet before and we really don't know what their real aim is," Tang said. Shanghai Morning Post said about 50 people visited the ad before it was deleted. It wasn't known if anyone had contacted the seller. The site's parent, eBay, has a computer program that filters out ads containing key words pointing to illegal transactions, Tang said. However, since the site routinely offers items such as infant clothing, nothing in the ad tripped any alarms, he said. Eachnet employees also visually check sensitive ads, but it wasn't clear if they had seen the one placed Sunday. San Jose, California-based eBay Inc. operates auction Web sites in the United States and 25 foreign countries and territories. The company said it had more than 168 million registered users by the end of the third quarter, a jump of 35 percent from last year. It completed its purchase of Eachnet in 2003. By last year, the site had 4 million registered users trading the equivalent of tens of millions of dollars (euros) online.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051020/ap_on_...HBhBHNlYwM5NjQ- :headshake RON HARRIS, Associated Press Writer 31 minutes ago SAN FRANCISCO - A woman who was hearing voices tossed her three young children off a pier into San Francisco Bay, authorities said. Rescuers had found one body, and the two other children were feared dead. Lashaun Harris, 23, of Oakland, was booked on three counts of murder, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in Thursday's editions. Her children were identified as Trayshaun Harris, 6, Travante Greely, 3, and Joshua Harris, 1. A child's body was found about four hours after a witness reported seeing a woman drop the children into the bay Wednesday near Pier 7, said Jonathan Guerra of the U.S. Coast Guard. The identity of the body was not immediately able to be confirmed. The San Francisco Examiner reported Thursday that the body was that of the 3-year-old. While rescuers searched for the children, an empty stroller was visible on the pier. A small inflatable Coast Guard boat hugged the water front as rescuers used hand-held flashlights to search under the pier. Larger Coast Guard and San Francisco police boats searched the water with high-powered flashlights. Mayor Gavin Newsom came to the scene to get briefed by authorities, telling reporters, "I'm sick to my stomach," before leaving. Lashaun Harris told authorities that voices had told her to throw her children into the water, the Chronicle reported. It was not immediately known whether she had an attorney. Police contacted Thursday by The Associated Press declined to confirm the report. The department's spokeswoman, Maria Oropeza, did not immediately returned a message. She had been staying with her children at a Salvation Army shelter in Oakland, the Chronicle reported. "I just talked to her yesterday," Mary Ann Ramirez, the shelter's social services manager, told the newspaper Wednesday. "We had our usual how are you doing, how's the kids. I would never have guessed in a million years that today she would do that." The pier is in the Embarcadero area, which draws tourists to the historic Ferry Building within view of Coit Tower and the landmark Transamerica pyramid. It's about a mile from Fishermen's Wharf.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Crash Rowand playing that stupid hill in center makes me nervous. They played an exhibition game there in (iirc) '03 so they have some experience with the field format. Hopefully Aaron remembers.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) One of the neat things about this World Series is no matter what happens, one team is breaking a really long Series drought. The White Sox haven't won a WS since 1917 and this is the Astros first appearence ever in a WS. This is going to be fun I agree with that. And two teams with a lot of heart and class. BTW.. and OT, when is that last time the 2 teams with the best records in each league played in the WS..? I wanted the Cards for that reason.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) I heard that they tried to get Fisk for Sunday. Thanks. Hadn't heard that anywhere.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 07:54 AM) The White Sox control the tickets. The mass distribution is conducted by Ticketmaster in conjunction with the White Sox. The Sox agreeement is Ticketmaster so they can not use a competitor like Tickets.com for mass distribution. The White Sox have to release tickets to the public (image the nightmare if all season ticket holders were allowed to buy what they wanted). This release is more smoke and mirrors than anything. They put something out there everyone thinks they have a chance but in the end, there wasn't really anyhting there. Look at how many tickets are out there on the resale market. Yes.. imagine the horror if WHITE SOX FANS got to buy all the tickets they wanted.. LMAO From the Sox on our playoff ticket "rules"... "Due to the policies and proceedures of MLB, WHICH CONTROL ALL ASPECTS OF POSTSEASON PLAY, the White Sox must strictly inforce the following...." (goes into a song and dance of the postseson game format, game times, dates, seat pricing, avaliability, etc, etc..) And this little gem which, thankfully, did not effect us... "MLB requirements PROHIBIT the WS from guaranteeing season ticket holders their seats, however the WS hope to provide these locations to most ST holders..." Why that last little rule...? Because MLB CONTROLS the tickets.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Uh-oh... Steff??? How are you feeling? LMAO.. you are about the 5th person to say that. Luckily, no bun in the oven. My stress level over the past 2 months would have been no good.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) Which means that the teams had or have some influence. My point exactly. It would be nice to think we could blame one thing (MLB), wouldn't it? But it's clearly not the reality. The team had/has some responsibility as well. When MLB tells me that because they control the tickets and the way they are sold and that I can not buy what I want because they said so... that's a good reason for me to believe them. During the season the Sox sell me whatever I want, as many as I want, to whatever games I want. It's crystal clear to me who controlled the post season tickets.
-
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Steff, I'm not buying what you are selling this time. By your own logic there, the Sox had some control here because they took the deal with Ticketmaster. To say, that some teams have the deal and others do not, still squarely puts the choice back into the individual clubs hand. I'm not selling anything. The Sox plain as day stated who had control when the CS tickets went on sale. Don't like it, b**** at them. I'm mearly repeating what was told to us as season ticket holders as to why we could not buy all the tickets we wanted.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Then explain how St. Louis and Houston had lotteries. Somewhere along the line, at some point, choices were made. There is variation between the teams. Therefore, I cannot logically be wrong. Now, I certainly have no idea HOW all that went on, and wouldn't pretend to. But clearly, some teams have a different deal than others. Wow... Obviously. Which is what has been being said over and over and over again here the past 3 weeks. :banghead
