    College Move In...

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) I remember the fire alarms being pulled at least twice a week in the middle of the night at SIU and having to evacuate. So annoying. Nice sig Brian...
  2. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 12:05 PM) Francis I believe is a reference from the Bill Murray , John Candy comedy "Stripes" > A Bill Murray classic . Thank you. Kap, it seems, is a bit slow on the sarcasm trigger today.
  3. QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) Welcome to the Jungle - Guns n Roses And look at them all crazy at this part... "Do you know where you are.. you're in the jungle baby.. and you're gonna diiiieeeee... "
  4. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) In the past couple years havent they flown before and after the game prior to the fireworks starting?? I could have sworn I saw rockets and roman candles coming out of their arses last year. LOL. From their feet, but you were close.
  5. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) If the White Sox wanted to increase attendance, fan interest, revenues etc. they would hire Steve Stone and re-hiring John Rooney would be a good thing also. FYI, the Sox don't employ the radio personalities.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) Shake That- Eminem and basically anything by Prince, I think it's a federal law that if strippers are dancing somewhere for more than 15 minutes a Prince song must be played Ooo yes. Darlin' Nikki is a must.
  7. QUOTE(whitem0nkey @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) EDIT: Also if you think a bad broadcast booth is better for attendance than a good broadcast booth you are wrong. attandance and TV rating are related and they both help each other. Again, it makes perfect sense that folks would flock to the park to see the game because they LOVE watching it on tv. In my case I pay dearly to watch them in person so I don't have to hear the God awful yaping from the tv. I know more folks who watch the tv muted and turn on the radio than who like Hawk's mouth. And for the record I didn't comment on the "bad booth". Just corrected your suggestion to email Boyer.
  8. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) Hey what time do the Elvii parachute onto the field? I'm assuming it's sometime before 7 (haven't been to Elvis night since '05). It's been different every year based on the weather and wind I assume with it being within 20 or so minutes before game time being the norm. A good rule of thumb is that once you see the plane flying over the park you have about 15 minutes till touch down.
  9. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) I understand the "long term value" (only for contract reasons) for Podsednik, but at some point, take what you can get, as long as it isn't clear stupid. Ummm.. we are talking about the Cubs here.
  10. QUOTE(whitem0nkey @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) Ok wise guy, who is the correct person to email this? If you want to criticize provide an alternative. No idea. But I know it's not the marketing guy.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) But you can see the game better in front of the TV! Only for old farts with bad eyes.
  12. QUOTE(whitem0nkey @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) I really enjoyed the past couple of days. I hope the sox can make this a permanent team. and if you feel the same please let the sox and Comcast know how you feel. [email protected] - brooks [email protected] - Comcast Makes perfect sense to hound the marketing guy with this. Especially since his job is to get butts in the seats at the park instead of at home in front of the boob tube.
  13. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) 'Keep your hat on' by I-can't-remember-who. "Leave your hat on" Tom Jones
  14. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) If they get a low A player who is younger then 25, I would consider this to be good. People are just speculating since the Cubs are in a semi-panic with Soriano down that maybe the Sox could get a better player. I'd like a position player... I think the Cubs are in FULL panic mode. This is their best post season shot in a long time. I think they will give something more than a bag of balls and justify it with Pods post-season experience.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) This will be the first and last time we ever see these words on Soxtalk from Steff. Oh give it a rest, Francis. Just last week I was wrong about something else and admitted it. Many here aren't half that big.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) From the Transaction Primer Yasny posted: It would make no sense for Murton to NOT have to clear waivers, it would defeat the purpose of the Non-Waiver Deadline. Murton could be traded to the Sox as a PTBNL to be sent at season's end which is made possible since the Cubs are in the NL and the Sox are in the AL. That's the only way he wouldn't have to clear waivers. It would make perfect sense if he did not have to be placed on waivers - which I was obviously wrong about. Someone alert the media.
  17. I just found this quick on Wiki. It doesn't state that everyone is or is not placed on them. I'm sure one of you guys can find something better and more detailed, but it was my understanding that being put on waivers is not mandatory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_...ll_transactions Waivers Any player under contract may be placed on waivers at any time. If a player is waived, any team may claim him. If more than one team claims the player from waivers, the team with the lowest record in the player's league gets preference. If no team in the player's league claims him, the claiming team with the lowest record in the other league gets preference. In the first month of the season, preference is determined using the previous year's standings. If a team claims a player off waivers and has the viable claim as described above, his current team (the "waiving team") may choose one of the following options: arrange a trade with the claiming team for that player within two business days of the claim; or rescind the request and keep the player on its major league roster, effectively canceling the waiver; or do nothing and allow the claiming team to (1) assume the player's existing contract, (2) pay the waiving team a waiver fee, and (3) place the player on its active major league roster. If a player is claimed and the waiving team exercises its rescission option, the waiving team may not use the option again for that player in that season. If no team claims a player from waivers in three business days, the player has cleared waivers and may be assigned to a minor league team, traded, or released outright. The waiver "wire" is a secret within the personnel of the Major League Baseball clubs; no announcement of a waiver is made until a transaction actually occurs. Many players are often quietly waived during the August "waiver-required" trading period to gauge trade interest in a particular player. Usually, when the player is claimed, the waiving team will rescind the waiver to avoid losing the player unless a trade can be worked out with the claiming team.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:56 AM) The rules are incredibly basic, if a player is on the 40 man roster he needs to clear waivers before he can be dealt. That's why they call July 31st the "Non-Waiver" trade deadline. The only players that can be traded without first passing through waivers are those players not on the 40 man roster. Murton is on the Cubs 40. When it comes to Podsednik to the Cubs I want something for him. If we're going to be helping out a desperate team trying to make a playoff push I want something of value in return. If the Cubs want to give up Single-A fodder then hold onto Podsednik and non-tender him at season's end. I'm not just going to give him away to a desperate playoff contender. The link provided earlier this week was clear that not all players MUST be put on waivers. IIRC YASNY posted it.
  19. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:43 AM) Why does Murton have to clear waivers? The Cubs didn't put him on waivers...the Sox put Pods there and by rule the Cubs can now acquire Pods since no one else claimed him. I never heard that the player traded for the waived player also has to clear waivers. You are correct. If he wasn't put on waivers, he doesn't have to clear them. Not everyone is put on them.
  20. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN2VqFPNS8w This is hilarious. But some people are saying it is offensive. Another almost wreck my car Stern moment.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) TWO HOURS of strippers??!! What's that costing you? And why don't they have their own music....?
  22. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Some of the armchair managers on Soxtalk fail to see the massive amount of gray area between "Ozzie's infallible" and "Ozzie's a worthless POS." Oh if that were understood even just a little bit things would be soooo much different around here.
  23. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) I stand corrected. NP. A lot of folks think the Sox employ both tv and radio.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) IIRC, isn't it pretty much the Score's fault that Rooney wasn't retained? The Score waited until the 11th hour, but John had already hired the movers when they came to him so it was a done deal. St. Louis was his dream job. He had been wanting it for over 5 years. Honestly I think he was going regardless of how much $ the Score tried to pay him, and I say good for him. Not too many people truly love their jobs as he loves his.
  25. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Seems like a money issue to me. Why would JR & Co. want to pay Steve Stone millions when DJ will gladly do the job for a fraction of the cost? Money is the reason that we lost Rooney as well. It's a fun story for the Jerry haters to tell, but it's bulls***.
