QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:00 AM) Says Kenny actually discussed actual players with him that he intends to go after... This article seems almost too convenient to just "happen" to be written now... I'm sure Tejada was on that list. This article, and Jon's "we're still in it, you can't count us out, look at how we're playing..." crapola yesterday seems way too convenient I agree.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 07:50 AM) hmm. that's weird. sun-times site must be having issues because you can't link to the story off their main sports page. anyhow, the gist of the story is that when he was having discussions with kw around the time he re-signed, buehrle came away with the impression that the sox would be active in the free agent market and intended to load up in the offseason instead of trading guys away. edit: link is working now. So the wrap up is that Mark had a "gut feeling". I'd say his perception was a bit off.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Rory Sabbatini had a one stroke lead over Tiger Woods going into the final round of WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and if you remember he had some choice words about Tiger earlier this year. http://www.pga.com/improve/features/alesso...stone080607.cfm And today's results... World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational Final 1 Tiger Woods -8 F -5 T2 Justin Rose E F -2 T2 Rory Sabbatini E F +4 T4 Peter Lonard +1 F -2 T4 Chris DiMarco +1 F E Whoops. Tiger earns W #58. Rory tried to have a spectator tossed over the weekend for mocking his earlier comments about Tiger.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) There aren't too many baseball players built like body-builders though. A few exceptions of course, super-bulky dudes like McGwire was. Probably in part for that very reason, that too much bulk would be self-defeating (and I suppose because that might make it painfully obvious what they were doing). I don't know if it takes being built like a body builder to impede performance. Of the few guys I know of who have taken them, and some who still are, they didn't grow gross sized muscles and saw a decline. Most I know are quite a bit smaller than Canseco actually. And I am in no way, shape, or form trying to justify anything. This is just what I have seen, and the reasons why I have been told people do them.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) Evidence says otherwise. Why on earth would they take it if it only hindered their performance? Are you saying maybe they like the side effects or something? Maybe they prefer to see their parts shrivel? The evidence I have seen regarding the "negative positive" is for guys who get so bulky it actually impedes their physical ability (slows the swing or run). It makes a lot of sense. Big muscles are orgasmic to many guys on steriods, which is why I think they don't care about the size of their pee pee or balls when they are on them.

How can you tell if a girl is uninterested or just playing hard to get

QUOTE(WhiteSoxFan1 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) Well based on everything, ruined or not. What gives me the BEST chance to get back into the game involving this girl? Leave it alone. If it's meant to be it will happen. Not what you want to hear, but it's the best course of action, IMO. Good luck. -
QUOTE(Shadows @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) The reason they are so widely used is because people think they can take steroids and become a badass, which is not the case. ^
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) why are steroids so widely used in baseball? I would guess that a lot of it has to do with the potential to improve so drastically.

Yikes.. First of all I just want to say I am sooooo glad I am an old married hag and out of the "dating game". As for her actions.. seems she's waaaayyy immature. Kissing and crabbing is something I remember from back in middle school. Asking about other females you talk to is a sure sign of insecurity, and texting your friend makes it clear she's playing games. IMO, leave her be and if she wants something she'll come to you. You guys are waaay to young to be dating exclusively anyway. What ever happened to "playing the field"? Back in the day... most guys did that until at least junior year of college. -
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) My son told Ehern that we watched him in the All-Star game the night before and he said, " I guess I did Ok". I told him he pitched a scorless inning and he said, "Yeah, but I did walk 2". He told us about his flight out the morning after. Just seemed like he really appreciated where he was at. Hopefuly he continues to excel between the lines. He's not so hot on the links though...

QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) He actually was with the Knights before his call up. He was the knights lone All-Star replacing Gavin Floyd. I got a chance to talk to him the day after the All-Star game and he seemed like a nice humble young man. That's exactly the word my husband just used to describe him. Very thankful to be wearing the colors. It's nice to see that. It's easily forgotten, IMO.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) Girls that play hard to get are the type of girls you don't want to have a relationship with--it's just a sign she'll play games and be manipulative. Stay away. ^^ Soxy you're on a roll the past week -

What is she doing, or not doing, that makes you ask. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) He's picthed maybe a handful of times. Not doing great, but not being pummelled either (except 1 outing). Considering he's so new, he's doing well. I was psyched to see him called up - I have a soft spot for players who make their way up the chain the hard way (he got in via an open tryout), and who succeed despite not having the as high a level of natural tools as many others. He seems to be extremely dedicated as well. When he speaks it's not with that familiar sense of "entitlement" that many have.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) He's on the White Sox. ??? I have an AAP page on him in that forum as well. but he's been with the big club a few weeks now, doing reasonably well. Well now... that clears up how much I have been paying attention to the Sox these days.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) Any 'Six Feet Under' fans here? I just finished the series, intense show. Loved it. Ball is an amazing writer.

Anyone have any current info on him? I know he's with B'Ham, but is he "stick a fork in him" done?

QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) It's hard for me to believe all the Joe Crede hate on this board. Fellas, does anyone remember 2005? We may not have hoisted the trophy without Joe Crede. He was the overall MVP of the postseason. Heck, without his game winning homer late in the year against Cleveland, we might have melted all the way down and missed the dance. Plus, though he's not always put up stellar offensive numbers, he's never failed in the field. I understand Crede doesn't have a long-term future with the Sox given his back history and agent. But I'm never going to think anything but good thoughts about Joe Crede. He's one of the few guys we have developed internally in the last 10 years. Aaron Rowand was another, and as soon as we shipped him out we realized we lost something greater than Rowand's offensive numbers as a team. THANKS, JOE CREDE. I think you misconstrue realistic thinking for hatred.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) Keep in mind that the Sox are giving Mark a $4.5 million raise next year. In addition, Jon will be making $2 million more. And JD is going to cost more than $6 million if they extend him. Unless they're able to unload Thome's salary, I can easily see them running into budget issues. Are they really going to field a $100 million payroll with declining season ticket sales? The $$ cleared this year from ST holders will pay for next years salary. I would not expect the PR to fall back to the mid to high 80 mil mark until the '09 season.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) My understanding, for what its worth, is his hip is not arthritic. His hip joints are not aligned normally is what I've been told. Which basically requires certain strength and conditioning activity and what might be considered chiropractic type stuff. I've never heard arthritic either and always degenerative joints. WC, while Belle had/has the same thing his began to be problematic as an early teen. I don't believe PK's condition was found until his mid 20's.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) CNN wrote something indicating they didnt know if the guy was dead before the dogs found him or not. From the article above.. "Police say they are not sure whether it was the dog mauling that proved fatal, or if the man suffered some other type of health problem."

QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) Yeah. But more snuggly than bulldogs I've met. Aww.. So sad.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) I've never heard of mastiffs ever attacking. They are really sweet tempered usually, and very calm. Like couch potato dogs. Very weird. Kind of like bulldog lazy?

http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=...&id=5537568 Brentwood Caretaker Dead, Was Mauled by DogsProperty Owned by Actor Ving Rhames BRENTWOOD, Aug. 3, 2007 (KABC-TV) - The body of a caretaker has been discovered at a Brentwood property owned by actor Ving Rhames. Authorities say the man is a victim of a dog mauling. Police say the victim is the 40-year-old caretaker of the property. There were apparently large dog bites on the body. Police say they are not sure whether it was the dog mauling that proved fatal, or if the man suffered some other type of health problem. A pair of 200-pound mastiffs have been quarantined by Animal Control, along with two other dogs found on the property. A police spokesman says the death appears to be a "tragic accident." The victim, who hasn't been identified, had worked at the actor's home for about two years and was responsible for caring for the dogs, said Los Angeles Police officer Sandra Gonzalez. Police got a call at 7:15 a.m. from someone reporting a dead body at the home. Gonzalez didn't know who made the call. The victim was found on the front lawn, she said. Rhames, 46, who appeared in the "Mission Impossible" series of films, wasn't at home when the attack occurred, she said. I'm not familiar with Mastiffs. Are they an aggressive breed?
