What the hell was Ozzie doing, volume 80 billion
Steff replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) Yes, but not for Ozzie. For the Willie Harris clone without the defense. Oh... I'm sure there would have been at least a few dozen threads blaming Oz as a result. Some just can't help themselves. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) To be honest, I've never disliked him for any reason other than steroids. He strikes me overall as a decent guy who just so happens to hate the media, thus getting a bad reputation in that regard. But hey, if I dealt with the media like he's had to for 21 years, I'd probably hate them too. I just think his one flaw is the classic "invisible athlete" mindset he has, which is what probably led him to take illegal stuff, think he could get away with it, and still think even now he wasn't wrong to do it since so many others did. He's very much like Frank Thomas as far as his personality.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) No. But there would be some more evidence against Jerry Owens as a major leaguer. And I'm sure there would have been a thread on that. Let's remember Game 4 of the World Series. Willie harris reaches on a single, but Ozzie is bunting with Pods. Why? Because Willie has been killed by the media and the team for his inability to steal a base. JD comes through with 2 outs. If Owens can't be counted on to steal in a key situation, why isn't he being run out of town like Harris? Because there are 4,361 other things higher than that on the '07 Sox complaint list. -

QUOTE(juddling @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) I kind of agree with whitesoxfan101 on this one though. I would have had Owens running as well on Martinez. Sox already had two SB on him and IIRC neither throw was close to getting the runner. Plus the fact it was a night where the Sox hitters weren't hitting a 'hittable' pitcher in Westbrook. They only manage two hits all night...if Owens could get 2B. They could have tied the game without a hit. just a couple sac flies and it's a new ball game. I think the odds were in the Sox favor when it came to stealing. And if he'd gotten caught there would have been holy hell to pay. -
"I just hope he didn't get hurt," Bonds said after the game, which the Giants lost 8-6 to the Washington Nationals. He said he had no interest in getting the ball back for himself. "I don't want the ball," Bonds said. "I've never believed a home run ball belonged to the player. If he caught it, it's his." www.yahoosports.com What a jag.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:46 AM) Fixed that for you. It's ok if you do it. If I do it there'd be a b**** fest. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) Exactly. I get sick of all this MMQB s*** around here. Out of all of them, there might have been about twice that it was legit this season. Have you tried a stronger dose of Midol...? -

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 09:31 AM) I know I'm gonna get strafed for this but again last night it happened. Does Thome ever drive people in in the clutch? This is getting old. If you get strafed, it's the straffers that will look stupid. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 07:33 AM) Well I never had to move into a dorm or anything for college down here, since it's only a 10 min drive from where I live, so really what's the point of moving on campus there unless you're forced to. It's my last semester, and dare I say, I won't be here living at home next year. So I guess I missed out on the whole "College" experience, since I only really spend 2, 3 hours max on campus a week. I didn't live on campus either, but I had my share of the college life visiting friends who went to ISU and SIU. Honestly, I'm glad I missed that part.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) I second that. Third. The one in Lombard is the worst!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) The biggest piece of advice is just be who you are. The rest of the idiots in the world who have a problem with that can just go pound sand. Those who will really be your friend and will be there no matter what you are are the only ones that matter. No one else does. Have fun, and be yourself. That's it! And keep in mind that there are a LOT of idiots out there. And as a rule, just when you think you've run into the king/queen idiot... a bigger idiot will show themselves.

QUOTE(max power @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) This seems rather obvious to me, and I'm surprised to see so many people doubting it still. Kenny is going to try to fill the holes and win next year, no doubt in my mind. It will probably be with one big contract(over 30 million) and a bunch of smaller ones. There's doubt because you can't squeeze blood from a turnip.

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) Why no love for BA? Career .409 OBP. Some power and speed. OK, he's 33, but he's kinda like Rickey Henderson or Tim Raines (in an era without stolen bases). And both of those guys played well late into their 30's. He really seems more what the Sox need than Andrew Jones or Adam Dunn...and less risky than Rowand. I'm sorry... did I say I had no love for Bobby? If I did I sure do apologize because I sure didn't intend to.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) Notice how Guillen has been talking a lot about guys "having good at bats". Buehrle chimed in about that philosophy too, in a way. Look for more patient hitters to be brought in, not only guys who can slap the ball, bunt, and run, but good pro hitters. Not that I'm advocating it, simply speculating but I wouldn't be surprised to see Abreu here. Agree 100%. Though like 72 I question BA specifically. We aren't winning swinging for the fences. Only a year late in figuring that one out, IMO.

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) Even that I'm not sure is exactly true. In their first 84 years of existance the Sox outdrew the Cubs in 43 years, the Cubs outdrew in 41 years. But when the Trib bought the Cubs in 1978...it was over. The number one paper and the number one TV channel now owned the Cubs so from 1984-2005 the Cubs outdrew the Sox 19-2. When the Trib and WGN are broken away from the Cubs this year...maybe the city shifts back to the Cubs. It's an interesting time to be a Sox fan (outside of, you know, the record). Am I the only person on this board who doesn't know or, or care to know, or pay much attention about attendance or tv rating bulls***?

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) I don't think the White Sox ARE cheap. They're payroll is in excess of $100 million....top five last year...maybe top ten this year. So why would it be impossible for them to go out and spend $15 mill on a couple of players? They save $3 mill from Iguchi. $3 Mill for Mack. $2 mill for Cintron. $2 mill for Pods. $6 mill for Dye. Not to mention the $10 from Freddie. They use that money to sign Bobby Abreau at $10 per and Scott Linebrook at $6 per? According to Forbes the Sox annual revenue is $173 mill per year...the most in the division...$3 more than Detroit, $15 more than Cleveland and $40 and $50 more than Minn/KC. In spite of all the second-team nonsense...the Sox have money, they spend it and there's no reason to think they won't spend more. With the Trib likely to sell the Cubs this year the hearts, minds and wallets of the countries 3rd largest market is really up for play. Reinsdorf is smart enough of a business man to recognize that he could increase profits if he spends more money. That's nice. I don't either. Nothing is impossible. I'm just going to choose to lean more towards the realistic. Nice post though.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:38 AM) to clarify, to you mean lingo that covers a wide variety of areas, or lingo that, you know, comes from a broad? LMAO!! Both.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:32 AM) Sorry, I was reading your earlier comments as being sarcastic. I wish I was. I've accepted that we're stinky and I just have to love it for how it entertains me. It's how I made it during the late 80's and 90's.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:31 AM) You? dumbed down? Don't make me respond to you in broad lingo...
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) Yea, because this is XBOX games, Chicago White Sox style. I don't think Kenny is going to do anything close to what has been incinuated by Mark, however saying he has some incredible names on his wish list IMO does not equate to being pessimistic. Unless pessimistic = realistic dumbed down a few notches.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:22 AM) Ahh Steff....so pessimistic.... Incorrect.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:15 AM) For whatever reason, I think that Andruw Jones is on that wishlist. As there should be, I'm sure there are a lot of fabulous names on that list.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) At least now KWs feet are in the fire a little bit. Its one thing to speculate that KW is going to be aggressive in the FA market, but now one of his core players is saying that KW has said that he will be pursuing certain players. He didn't say he was pursuing anyone. He revealed his wish list.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:06 AM) Lets hope this is true Oh, I'm sure it's true that he said those things. Talk is cheap, like Mark's contract.
