Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
Steff replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Good grief... AccessHollywood's Shaun Robinson asked Jamie Foxx what he thinks about this matter. Instead of saying "It is what it is", or nothing at all... he said: “It’s a cultural thing, I think. Most brothers didn’t know that, you know. I used to see dogs fighting in the neighborhood all the time. I didn’t know that was Fed time. So, Mike probably just didn’t read his handbook on what not to do as a black star. I know that cruelty to animals is bad, but sometimes people shoot people and kill people and don’t get time. I think in this situation, he really didn’t know the extent of it, so I always give him the benefit of the doubt.” -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) People have been saying maybe a 5 year ban from the NFL? thats alot of time. Vick WILL serve jail time. Thats good enough for me. I'm holding on to hope that some more significant betting evidence hasn't shown itself yet. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) f***ing sportsline now shows the Sox playing 3 shortstops. 2 of them are Uribe. Maybe you shouldn't be counting on sportsline for your game info..

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) Michael Vick is snitchin' and might just get some time off because of it. He could end up serving a large portion of his jail time (which could end up being only 1 year or less total) under House arrest. He admitted to conspiracy of organized crime. He's serving some time on that regardless of the dog murders. -
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 09:17 AM) I thought I heard on the radio that she drove out there with some of her 'supporters'. Not that it matters, but Yahoo said she and 2 friends flew.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:37 AM) How is the clarity of your pool? I fought an algae battle after vacation but it has been reduced to a cloudy issue that I thinkis pH related. It was terrible, but last Sunday I dropped in a bottle of "FLOC". Pour that in the skimmer, let it circulate for a day then turn the filter off overnight. Next day there should be a "cloud" in the middle of the pool. Put your filter to "waste" and vacuum out the mess SLOWLY - the "floc" is light and will spread all over the pool easily. The floc will continue to "work" and you just keep sucking it out as it accumulates. It normally takes 2, 3 days max, but with this rain it's taking longer. Your PH should be high right now. Don't bother trying to fix it until you resolve the cloudy issue. Waste of chemicals.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:17 AM) Interesting. I have never been overly familiar with RICO, except as it applies to business practices (it didn't come up much at a local level in law enforcement). The organized crime stuff I guess is what is biting Vick here. Some info on Wiki.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racketeer_Inf...ganizations_Act -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) "local" law enforcement, in this case Chicago PD, wasn't going to arrest her. Daley hasn't let the dogs loose on illegal immigrants, that's not the way he wants the department run. So I'd suspect that CPD has been told specifically NOT to arrest her. Let the Feds handle it. I'm aware. Thanks.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) From a law enforcement perspective, I can see why they would wait for her to leave Chicago. The local press has been following the case quite avidly, whereas in LA, there would probably be a lot fewer cameras. And making the local law enforcement look like idiots. Whatever floats their boat. But as I said, this was not their first opportunity to nab her.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:07 AM) Yeah, I knew about the gambling, but I haven't read into racketeering charges. I guess I tuned out after the stuff with the dogs. Actually, many crimes committed by a group that the government calls "organized" can be slapped with RICO charges. They have changed the parameters a lot since it's inception in the mob days. -
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:55 AM) I read a quote from the guys who were following her. They said they didn't go after her in the church because it would have been a struggle. There were lots of people there protecting her. They waited for her to leave and get out into the open. As soon as she did that she was arrested. I think the funniest part about it is that she is still spewing crap about the US government owing her rights. Oh and the Mexican Senate doesn't agree with the treatment the US had towards her. Spank, spank. Umm.. they let her leave the church. Arrive at the airport. Wait in line. Fly to California. Claim her luggage. Then they approached her. I can see why they didn't go after her at the church while her son was around - and even that's debatable since her son made a few trips to DC to meet the prez over this. But for them to say they couldn't get her before this is complete bulls***.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:39 AM) I must have missed something... what crime did he commit under RICO? Many according to the federal indictment. Specifically the racketeering and gambling activities. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) And thats what I'd consider a good schedule And to think I used to whine about having an 8AM class as opposed to a 9 or 10 AM class. No kidding. Try 7am start, a sandwich at your desk for lunch, and a 7 pm leave - IF you're lucky.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 06:57 AM) Lester Munson was talking about this on ESPNNews last night, and he was pretty amazed that Vick is going to attempt to dictate the plea agreement by not admitting his guilt on the dog-killing and gambling. If he doesnt plead guilty to those crimes, does that mean the feds can still go after him on those seperate offenses that he is not admitting guilt to? I believe they can pull the plea deal since he's trying to alter it. Hopefully they can, and do, and then the state files on their charges. Also, I hope someone reminds the Feds about the RICO charges. -
QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 06:35 AM) Mine too (2 Acres). I'm hoping to be able to hit it again on Saturday. When I got home is was calm and summy so I emptied it to about 2 inches below the skimmer since it was supposed to rain more. This morning it's nearly OVER the skimmer and pouring out on it's own. That's at least 5 inches of water. The clouds were amazing. I got some great pictures. Luckily we never lost power and the pump was pumpin'. The lake in the back however has made it's way up tp about 25 feet from my deck. The rest of the neighbors kids swing sets are unusable as they are in at least a few inches of water. A lot of them on lower ground got water in their basements though.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) They've changed it. The comic is now on the wrapper itself, the gum is no longer a block (it's longer and thinner), and it now seems to be made of some sort of wax instead of the good ol' rock it used to be made of. Oh, and they changed Bazooka Joe and his gang to look more "hip". There is an ice cream/candy store in downtown Naperville, a block east of Washington I believe (don't hold me to that) that still sells it the old way in buckets. -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) Pitch black outside my office window. Rain and wind like a mutha. It's not done. Approx 75mph wind and rain here and it's headed your way.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Jerome Bettis, the No. 5 rusher in NFL history, claims in a new book that he faked a knee injury during training camp in 2000 so the Pittsburgh Steelers wouldn't cut him and install Richard Huntley as the starter. More at yahoosports.com

QUOTE(rowandrules83 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) I believe the reasoning behind the release date is that Saw IV is coming out around October, and the makers of Halloween didn't want to compete with a very popular series from the same genre. Yikes.. I've been so wrapped up in baby crap I didn't even know this. Thanks for the info. Now I'll be stuck on the House of Jigsaw site for the next month.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) Steff, are you sure you're not perfect? Did you steal a grape from the supermarket or something? No grapes. But enough Bazooka bubble gum before the age of 8 that in today's market it would probably add up to a felony charge. My grampa did own the store though. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) Since the onion is blocked here at work, any chance you can copy the article? Quick version... Vick's jersey is a hot seller right now. Then the pic is and orange prison jumpsuit with his name and number on it.
