QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) "Probably my fault", in my book, doesn't equate to AJ taking the blame for this. Rather, it seems like he wants to just doesn't want it to become a big deal in the press. This isn't the first time that we've heard of certain scouting issues not being as accurate as they should be from some of the coaches. I don't think Walker is to blame for the offense struggling this year, but I also think it's insane that he still has a job. I think one thing we'll all agree on is that we don't want to see this turn into a finger-pointing situation where people on the team start to blame other people for the team struggles. Your opinion is noted. As I do often I'm going to go with the words from folks mouths as what they mean rather than reaching for something else. As for your second comment. No, I wont agree to that at all. Passing the buck is bulls***. Own up to your crap or hit the road. I find it funny that you comment about not wanting "finger pointing" yet all most of this board does is "finger point" at the coaches, the manager, and the gm. A tad bit hypocritical, IMO.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) Normally the decision to play or not is in the hands of the home team up until the game starts, then it is turned over to the umpires. In the case of the other night, Comcast reported that since it was Boston's only trip to Chicago this season, the decision was being made by MLB rather than the home team. I am aware, however I was not referring to the Sox game. That game never started.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) Not when the sun came out half an hour (if that) after scheduled game time and there was no sign of rain for the rest of the night. It's one thing if they call it at 7 and it rains until 9 and then stops, but that night was ridiculous. Regardless of the weather, the two are completely different sets of circumstances by 3 months. I understand you are ticked about it, but a game being called off in May is 100% MORE likely than one being called off in August. Common sense.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Yep. And they canceled it QUICK that night. s***heads. BTW, people do need to realize that it's the umpire crew that calls the games, not the Sox. I think it depends on the conditions. Like that game that started at 11 or whatever it was the other night... that was a MLB decision not the team or the umps. I also think comparing a game cancelled in May and one cancelled in August is a stretch.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) Thanks Steff. Ya, they were ST, but no biggie. Pfffttt... fairweather fan.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) Add me to the list that had tickets, and couldn't find them.... If that ever happens again call the Sox and they will cancel the initial ones and reissue them. You just pick them up at will call. And don't hold me to it,but I think they charge a fee if they aren't season tickets though.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) But... I think sometimes a player can get the majors or even the minors and THEN decide they are too good to be coached. Maybe or maybe not the case with Juan, I don't know. But I feel pretty certain it happens. Hense the comparison of the '05 Sox to the '85 Bears. I believe they are ABLE to be coached just fine... after the stick removal and q-tip demonstration, of course.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) I was thinking of an example... who in their right mind thinks that Juan Uribe could easily be coached? I mean, the guy clearly knows what to do, he occasionally even does it (staying back, aiming for right centerfield on a fastball, and pulling the breakers). But from what I have seen (and I am not in the dugout of course), it seems like he is just not coachable. You don't get to the major leagues by not being able to be coached. The problem with the Sox, IMO, is that since '05 things from the players perspective are all out of wack. Kinda like the '85 Bears still think their s*** don't stink...

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) AJ's comment makes me feel like maybe the players feel that Walker doesn't do a good job preparing them for pitchers with scouting reports, etc. Clearly AJ's admission of fault is secret code for "Walker doesn't know how to prepare us".

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) He ain't no peach either though. Funny though, I had no idea she was no longer with Robinson. Or is she? They have been divorced for a couple years now.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) Last I read this morning, that doesn't look likely at all. They are still talking minimum one year. And no one cares what he has to say about others in the "business" anyway. He wasn't involved with the other "dogmen", his partners were. His information is about as useful as tits on a bull. -

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Clinton Portis and another member of the Washington football franchise were quick to come out in support of Vick ("It's his property" argument). http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2878099 I think Sanders counts as on his side also. -
QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) I have tickets to tonight's game. Do you guys think I should bother even trying to go to the game or no? I'm all the way out in Aurora and I don't really want to waste my gas/parking money/time if the game isn't going to go on, but at the same time I really don't want to just not show up and then the game goes on ya know after I got the tickets ya know? Do you guys think I should bother? Weather.com doesn't look good. You should definitely go. Everything looks good right now.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) I don't remember names right now but when this first broke, I remember several football players coming out quick to defend him. Then a few more celebs. Then some other morons... I guess the most important question is what do Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton think? Then, and only then, we will have the pulse of the African American community. (And yes, I'm kidding). Pfftt.. Figures. :rolleyes -
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Yo, I didn't let anyone peep on anything! Nobody remembers that conversation between us because it was on PM. So nobody knows what we're talking about. I think. I know, I know. I was just being silly.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) That is the rumor on his Wikipedia discussion page All the tabloid blogs have been saying it since noonish as well.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Interesting. First and foremost, I am an AJ fan. I have his jersey, I think he was key to 2005. That said, I personally have seen him not hustle out some plays this year to the point where I was thinking: what's with the lolly-gagging? You could at least try. More than once. And Steff: remember when we talked what you couldn't talk about? I think now I know what you're talking about. LMAO.. way to keep it on the down low..

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) Well I guess my coverage has been limited to the "negative" side, or the one saying "they're knockin' the man down because of his color"... I don't watch much TV, so I guess I don't know all the support for him getting nailed. You're not missing it. No one is saying it. Those folks are minding their own business. Proably why it seems like everyone (again... what? 5, 6 high profile morons?) is saying this is a misunderstood race thing. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) They made significant pains to make the dog operation invisible from the sky and from passers by. They also went to lengths to build and develop training programs, equipment and fighting arenas. This was an elaborate and multi state operation and was by no means someone fighting their dogs in the street. This was an almost profession operation, and should be treated as such. He already admitted to conspiracy of organized crime. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Every time you turn on the tv, the sports and entertainers are jupming up to defend him. Read closer - I said what's being said PUBLICLY (or, those who have the avenue to voice their opinions are definding Vick). I know they don't speak for the whole AA population - but the high profile folks are jumping on the "Vick was railroaded" bandwagon, that's for sure. I think I've seen a lot of the coverage and as I said above JF is maybe the 5th, definitely less than the 10th, person with a public voice I have seen take something like this road, or something similar to it. Most aren't saying anything. Considering the % of "blacks" in the NFL, NBA, and Hollywood... I'd say the pro Vick wagon has a lot of room left on it. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) I hate to say it, but this sort of stuff sort of goes with what white was saying earlier in the thread. At least from a publicity standpoint. Most "BROTHERS" didn't know that? Hmmmm. Kap, you are kidding, right? JF is what...? The 5 idiot to state some sort of half assed defense for that douche and that = the african america population as a whole...???? -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Yup. And I ain't saying anymore. LOL.. we've been saying "something" for 2 years now.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) I also don't know what's more embarassing.....how many Red Sox fans there are today compared to White Sox fans, or the fact that Andy Gonzalez is the only substitute we have for Jim Thome today. Are you f***ing kidding me...??? White Sox fans had 14 hours notice that this game was going to be played. Half of the Red Sox fans are here for the weekend and don't have to work. The other half are Cub fans who don't work anyway. It's not like the place is filled with 20K RS fans. There's maybe 12K TOTAL fans there right now.
