QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) Oh I agree. I just found it odd that the initial report said the grandparents probably didn't know about it, and then they come out and deny that he ever had such a condition. I would suspect the initial report was bulls*** before I believe the grandparents didn't know. Even a one time babysitter would have to know something so massive. This mess is just all so sad. Reading the ME's comments on how he concluded Daniel was killed was very disturbing.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) And the initial report of the person who reported the Fragile X syndrome said that not even the grand parents knew about it. I find it very hard to believe that folks who take care of a child as intimately as a grandparent would not know of such a serious medical issue. Time will tell I suppose.

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) You never know where that person's ankle has been... Ya got me there. In all seriousness, I would likely say something - loudly - first. "Excuse me.. would you mind getting your nasty foot away from my face" would probably turn him a nice dark shade of red.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 09:23 AM) *insert obligatory birth joke here* Did I mention congratulations? LOL, I think that has a LOT to do with it. Thanks for the congrats! QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 09:01 AM) On another note: Speaking of rudeness in theatres, this dude behind us kept putting his feet on the chair next to my wife. Nothing like someones bare feet next to your head.(Well he had flip flops on) Anyway, She didn't say anything to me, she just kept giving him a look when he would do it, thinking he would stop. I didn't notice cause I was pretty engrossed in the movie. Towards the end I had my arm around her chair and felt him kick the chair a couple times. I was like whatever, maybe he was just adjusting his legs. Then it happened a third time and I turned around and saw he had his feet up next to her head. So I reached over and grabbed his ankle and threw it down and he looked at me all bewildered and I looked at him like wtf you ignorant ass. No words were spoken and that was that. Movie ended about 10 minutes later and when we got up I was going to tell him what my problem was if he asked, but he pretended like he was sleeping. Your wife is way to nice. I would have broken his ankle if I looked next to me and saw a strangers foot near my face.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) Steff, Northside, I wrote about this yesterday. I'm not sure how true it is. I don't necessarily disbelieve it but I don't necessarily do. I'm waiting and seeing, as I said yesterday: THIS article is very interesting, too: http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/moreTrack...mat=&page=1 Apparently, Benoit's neighbor discovered their bodies and was very close to Nancy. She has now fled to Boston to avoid the media and is very shaken up having lost her dear neighbor whose house she had keys to. She says that she believes Daniel had Fragile X, so who knows? It's such a terrible story. The grandparents are quoted in People denying any health issues with Daniel.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 08:06 AM) I was just teasing fathom, there was no malice intended. 2 posts about it, and I was done Yes, I saw your following post, and I didn't mean to single you out since 98% of the board was being vile. Regardless, it was an ugly week and while it's good news depending on your perspective, I hope those who know what they did learn to think before they speak in the future.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) Not quite sure why I'm being singled-out here. I've wanted them to sign him, but after what we read yesterday, it didn't seem like he was in the plans. I'm thrilled for reasons on and off the field, and it immediately makes our future for the next 5 years better. Me neither. Save for maybe 6 posters, everyone talked s*** last week.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) Hey not to be an ambulance chaser but if this means easier season tix for me next year yay! At least something good comes out of this mess of a year. Not that I wouldn't rather see the team pick it up, but... Don't forget the shorter bathroom lines..

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) It does. But it doesn't change the reality - they exist, even in Sox fandom. This site doesn't tend to attract a lot of casual fans - more superfans. So sometimes its easy to forget that they are part of those attendance numbers. Like I said, they haven't been for 20+ years and I don't see them starting now. It would be nice if you are right, but I doubt it. All done.

Fans continuing to pay for a s***ty product because the park is pretty and the neighborhood is building up... Sounds like the fans of some other team....

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) So let's say there is no waiting list right now. Season ticket base is in the low 20's somewhere, as I recall. That alone is big, when one considers that for decades, this team had average attendance numbers well below that. There maybe a dropoff next year, but it won't be an enormous one, I'd guess. I just don't see it going back to pre-2005 levels anytime soon, unless this team is really bad for a few more years. I think the WS, and the general winning attitude for the club during this decade has drawn a lot of new fans, and not all of them will abandon ship. It took a World Series to get fans to open their checkbooks... To think that they will CONTINUE to pay when it's obvious that the team is NOT going back to the World Series any time soon... IMO is simply not realistic. And there's 20+ years of back up to prove it. Last year there were nearly 30K st holders. This year I believe it's mid 20's. That waiting list was over 4K long at one point and it's all gone. I think the fans are clear on what they think about buying anymore season tickets.

Howard to Participate in HR Derby
I like the derby and watching them sail in to the bay will be especialy fun this year, IMO. It's a very popular "in person" event. Tickets are scalping for more to the derby than to the actual game this year.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) The fact that it is season holders is exactly what I am talking about. People are buying tickets, seasons particularly. Not anymore they aren't. Those several thousand names on that waiting list at the start of the year... all gone. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:03 PM) I am not so sure. I think KW likes the idea of a Braves-like pitching-based program. I think he wants to avoid full NTC's so that he has flexibility - but I don't think its his A-plan to get rid of JG or MB. I think he wants them as his anchors for quite a while. Kenny does not make the decison to tie up $100+M for 2 players.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) Yep. I agree that JR & Co. will definitely spend if ticket sales stay high. However, history (even recent history) has suggested that they won't unless they're competitive. I could be wrong... heck, I HOPE I'm wrong, but I don't see that changing just because of '05. My feeling is that JR and KW are going to look and see what the season ticket base is like next Spring. If it goes down significantly, my feeling is that next year will be Jon's last in Chicago. You're not wrong. The investment group has been doing the same thing for 20 years and stayed out of the red. I suspect they will stay status quo and not try to fix what isn't broke. Some good news might be that this year's ticket revenue (sale profit mainly) is for the most part used in projecting next years budget. So the payroll "cut" might not be much of a cut at all. And before I forget, I agree with you about signing both Mark and Jon to similar deals. Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) No, not really, but those are the names that they are going to attempt to throw out. They can also try Robin - who they actually didn't try to nickel and dime, but rather did nothing. Ozzie, also if they want to get picky.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) And another question (for us non-experts): even if a player has a NTC, they can waive that if they want, right? (Example: two years from now KW needs to trade for talent and the only way to get it is if Buehrle waives, so he asks Buehrle if he would. He could, right?) Yes.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) I don't want to get into these bs arguments about semantics that mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, and yet you continue to draw me into them. Kenny wanted ARod perhaps more than any other player that has become available in his tenure as GM. The White Sox may not have made an official offer, but they made it known that they wanted to be key players in the bidding. Boras precluded ANYONE other than Tom Hicks from making any serious offer, as he spotted the sucker at the table immediately. Kenny "tried" to acquire Arod as much or more than any other player that has become available- I think that was the point of the question- not the formalities of the actual signing process. You don't want to, but you contine to piss on the wall then cry when called to the carpet on misleading info. Whatever. You win.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 11:01 AM) We wanted to sign him. We were one of the most interested parties and one of the favorites to get him. Boras knew he could bs Tom Hicks and did so, getting him to bid some $50 million in excess of anyone else. There, better? From rumors the Sox have "wanted" to sign a lot of people over the years. The Sox never made an offer. In order to "try" to sign someone, that's a pretty important thing that needed to happen.

Now it's limited no-trade?
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) We absolutely did. They tried to talk to him. An offer was never made. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) They were never permitted to make an offer. JR and KW wanted to talk to ARod without Boras present. This didn't happen. KW would love to have ARod on the White Sox. I think he wants him more than Buerhle, but may be coming to the conclusion that it isn't going to happen so he might as well keep Buerhle. ^. Is anyone else having issues with the site being slow today..?
