  1. Hey not to be an ambulance chaser but if this means easier season tix for me next year yay! At least something good comes out of this mess of a year. Not that I wouldn't rather see the team pick it up, but...
  2. AHEM. Anyway, am I wrong to feel some sort of optimism here that seem to indicate things aren't as dire as they appeared yesterday morning? And another question (for us non-experts): even if a player has a NTC, they can waive that if they want, right? (Example: two years from now KW needs to trade for talent and the only way to get it is if Buehrle waives, so he asks Buehrle if he would. He could, right?)
  3. I was thinking the same thing about Jenks. Like I said: we should file this one. Bad loss, but too bizarre to get worked up over. Hey, we scored six runs. If it had been 2-1, I'd be pissed. Up to that disastrous ninth, we looked damn good. And so did Buehrle BTW.
  4. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) I'm still at a loss as to what to even say. I left to run outside and jump in the pool with my kid...up 6-2...come back in what seemed like 15 minutes later...down 7-6. Ya know...I wasn't anticipating this team going on a 30-5 streak or anything...but I at least thought they could put together a nice run and save some face and at least play with some pride. That alone would have kept my interest at least. But I am officially done giving a s*** about this season. It's done. Time to play the youts and enter the Pedro Alvarez sweepstakes. Oh it was quicker than that. I left I believe at the top of the 9th and we were up 6-2. From the el station at 35th, I check on the score what, like five minutes later? Now it's 6-5. When I get off at Belmont, the final score is 7-6. I'm not going to go too crazy about this loss because it's just freaky. The pen blew it (including Bobby) and they've been okay of late. The offense sure did their part, and that's been our bete noire this season. File it. It happens. I'll be there tonight; hopefully we'll be pissed and it will show on the field.
  5. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) Well I like my opinion to be heard I guess. I would never root for any other team than the Whitesox. It's been my team since birth. I just don't agree with alot of the decisions the front office makes. But I have grown to accept it. I'm just holding out hope something gets worked out with MB. I think we have had a pretty good discussion about this today, hope nobody was offended by any of my posts. Didn't mean to if I did. Everyone is gonna have their own opinion on this subject, and even if I don't agree with it, I still respect it. After all, we are all Whitesox fans, and just want to see the same thing, and that's Continued success and many World series Championships. Diego don't take it so hard. I agree with your thoughts and people here are just blowin ya s***. Welcome to soxtalk, LOL!
  6. I appreciate that KW won us a World Series; no doubt. Greatest sports moment of my life. My expectation, though, after that is that we field a contender at least, following that pinnacle. I have no faith that's what we're going to do anytime soon, especially in light of recent events. I don't want to be a one-and-done Florida Marlins. I want to be in the race every year, like Minny, Boston, NYY.
  7. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) For all you guys bashing Kenny Williams...you must not be old enough to have been a Sox fan in the '70's and '80's. Every year under KW we have had a chance and one time we won the WS....there are 30 teams trying for the WS...which means all things equal we should win once a generation. I respect your greed but...my dad waited 80 years for his first. I think we should be patient waiting for the second to develop. But god bless Kenny because I think he's NOT patient to wait and I think I see what he's doing. Having two dominant power pitchers leads to WS wins...Pedro/Schilling, Johnson/Schilling, Clemens/Cone (twice), Cone-Wells, Brown-Fernandez, and by the way...Santana and Liriano would have won it for the Twins last year if not the injury, same with Wood-Prior. So the Sox have Buehrle...a very good lefty...Glavine-esque. And Garland another non-strikeout guy that is great on a team with good offense/defense...but there is little history of two non-strikeout pitchers leading a team to the WS. When Sox won it was Contreas that was clearly the ace...and Garcia was a strikeout guy too. If I'm KW I don't try to emulate Atlanta with the long stretch of pennants...but try to find the formula to win the next WS. Vazquez, Danks, Floyd, Gio, De Los Santos, the lefty they drafted #1...he's trying to get us in a position to have the next Clemens/Cone. If he has to use Buehrle and/or Garland to get us that true dominant ace? Let's give it a shot. THIS MESSAGE BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE WHITE SOX FRONT OFFICE.
  8. No argument here with that at all and you're exactly right. However, being on the DL negates all that, dontcha think? Time after time?
  9. Why are you all fighting? I think we can all agree we're pissed about this Buehrle thing (it makes me ill like never before) or at the least the way it's been handled. Let's not turn on each other. That's just what KW would want. LOL!
  10. I like Pods and don't have the contempt for him that some people here do. That said, after last year, if there was one '05 guy I couldn't wait to get rid of, it was... Pods. I thought he was worthless, particularly at the plate. I still will always love him for what he did for us in '05 and his walk-off, but the fact is he is the Mark Prior of our team: a china doll, always breaking. We can't have that. All the ability in the world means nothing when you're parked on the DL most of the season. Time to cut our losses with him. He has a wonderful career ahead of him as a media figure I'm sure. It's Sweeney time people.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) THANK YOU!!!!! And for the record I didn't, and wouldn't, call that "bandwagoning" I second this, and have been saying this for years. That's why I love Sox fans.
  12. Guys, the "real" Sox fan contest always turns into an idiot fest. No matter how much merch you have, how many games you've gone to, how many you've watched, and how many times you've posted here, there's always going to be that One Guy who's got you beat, LOL. Which is why the argument is futile. So don't worry about defending yourselves--I'm sure you love the Sox just as much as anybody. As far as the bandwagon jumpers, I'd say they're pretty much gone now, as anybody who goes to the park can tell you. And thank God. It's not unique to the Sox, really: this happens when any major league team finally DOES it. I hear that Detroit games are impossible to get into this year for the same reason (and they LOST). Ebb and flow, boys, ebb and flow. And FYI I had season tix in '05 but haven't since because I don't need 'em. I'm always buying a single ticket to go stand with my friends in our concourse spot so... so much for the season tix being the indicator of a true Sox fan. When somebody challenges your Sox credentials, just nod and move on.
  13. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) I think Mark is willing to give the Sox a sweetheart deal at 4/ $ 56. I think the reason Kenny won't give the NTC is because he doesn't want to pay Mark $ 56 mil. for 4 seasons and therefore wants to be able to trade him. That's why they are willing to blow the deal over the NTC. Mark's Sox career is over and he will be traded. Hey, we'll always have 2005 even if it sucks being a Sox fan for the next 10 years or so. And, while the flubs win the division this year and have some playoffs seasons playing in the Commedy Central while the Sox figure out what a real rebuilding process should be. Geez I never thought about that; that the NTC clause could be a ruse for KW to be able to unload Buehrle without ever having to pay the full four years/$56MM. In other words, the whole "deal" was really a ruse. Between that possibility and the possibility that KW was simply trying to play off of Buehrle's hometown sympathy and discount (after being led by, yes, KW and JR that Buehrle really wanted to be in St. Louis) to lock him in and THEN trade him... I really have had f***ing enough of KW at this point. Especially when they wasted no time signing Vazquez and JC could easily be traded.
  14. That's an interesting point: where is Ozzie on all this? We've heard that he's been quick to get rid of players he thought were attitude problems, so I'm curious why he wouldn't be all over KW to retain a proven leader and clubhouse favorite and probably the biggest cheerleader the team has, now that Rowand is gone. I just don't understand why we're trading away a young PROVEN pitcher for hopes of rebuidling with young UNKNOWN pitchers. That doesn't sounds like "rebuilding"--sorry--that sounds like a return to "The Experiment" years. No thanks.
  15. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Krause inherited Michael Jordan. Without him he didn't win s***. He tried to rebuild the Bulls and f***ed it all up. Although I am grateful for 2005. Williams caught lightning in a bottle in 2005, but before that didn't win s***. He pieced that team together on the fly. He took a chance with AJ, Iguchi after never seeing him, El Duque and Pods. If anyone thought before that season we were gonna win the World series they were out of their minds. The starting pitching is what carried us, and now KW wants to trade away our ACE, over a f***ing NTC. You really want me to trust this guy. No way. Maybe some of the people on here will, but not me. I always made fun of the Cubs when they got rid of Maddux. In my eyes this is the same situation. With the way he is going about business now with the Buerhle situation I don't see him winning s*** in the near future. Sorry. I'll try. I'm just very passionate about issues, and plus I just swear alot. I don't mean to offend anyone though. I agree with the Maddux analogy completely. This is going to bite us on the ass.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) I honestly can't believe the only hold up in this deal is a stinkin no trade clause, there has to be more to it than that. If not, there is something completely messsed up with this organization. Buehrle is a 10 and 5 guy in 2010 anyways, correct? So in other words the hold up on this freakin deal is cause Kenny wants the flexibility to trade Mark for two seasons? Why the hell would we be trading him in the first two years of a four year deal anyway? Something isn't right here, and Kenny is really starting to get on my bad side(I know it's his worst nightmare ) I really used to be a huge fan of his but not anymore. I hear that. Is it just me, or is there something bad faith about KW signing Buehrle to a reduced four-year deal--knowing that Mark wants to stay here--only to then turn around and trade him off the bat because his cheap four year deal makes him great trade bait? That seems awfully slimy to me.
  17. Hey I'll take the 6-1 roadtrip at this point! After the bottoming out of the Cubs series, what more could you want?
  18. I'm really hoping for a Cleveland-like 2nd half because this first half has been a BEAR...
  19. Amen to that brother. That about sums it up.
  20. The thing that also kills me is that if Buehrle goes, to whomever he goes he's going to be an ace and probably be worshipped by that team's fans as a savior, which I think he can live up to. That will be tough to swallow. We had him and gave him up.
  21. My God I've resisted the Greg Walker lynch thread for months but three hits? WHY does this man still have a job?!!! We need somebody in working with our hitters, STAT. NOW.
  22. Anybody who believes that JC is 35 is high. I'm 41 and he looks 15 years older than me.
