  1. Yep. I'd imagine. What CAN you say at this point? This has been like a horror reel repeating since July '06.
  2. Wow. The window is still barely open, but to me this Cubs series is going to be the point of no return. Only because this is like our little mini-WS here, they lost two there, and if they cannot get it up for this then season's over. After this a long spell at Tampa and then at KC. If ever there's a time to turn it around, now is it. If, after this week, we're still piddling at .333 ball or worse against Cubs, Devil Rays and Royals,.... season's over. Let the sale begin.
  3. ... I can't wait to hear what he says about this one.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Question is, do you think we'll compete during the next several seasons? If he's gradually falling off, both in terms of velocity and health, wouldn't it be wise to trade him now knowing full well it has been obvious since 2005 he hasn't been the same pitcher. It has been clear to me since last year that when Jenks is only hitting 93-94 on his fastball, he's intimidating nobody. And since his other pitch is the Big Hook, they just wait for the fastball.
  5. Me likey Josh Fields these past couple weeks!
  6. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) this team has played bad, but the Jenks "velocity" thing is just dumb. Its been dumb for years. How's that? He's lost about 7MPH off his fastball, and you don't think that's major?
  7. QUOTE(chisox72 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) I love the weak low-and-away strikeouts. We are SO f***ING awesome at them. Ditto. It seems this has been going on since last year.
  8. My prediction is that if the Cubs series goes badly, the fire sale begins Monday.
  9. Oh the stadium is fine, no doubt. Love it there. Very comfortable (although those concourses are SMALL compared to the Cell). That's the best part of the whole trip: the game.
  10. You know what I'm sick of? KW's pissing and moaning about the market and deals and his hardass stance about how this won't be discussed until after the season (question: WHAT season, Kenny?). You've got a workhorse, lefty, 28 year old pitcher on a team that's supposedly built around pitching and defense. What exactly is the mystery here? Nobody's saying that Mark should get a Zito contract but the guy has made plenty of overtures about wanting to stay and I'm just tired of KW's pompous and egomaniacal posturing.
  11. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:50 AM) Yes, Ozzie is mishandling the bullpen by using it. If only he could figure out a way to handle the bullpen properly without ever having to actually bring any of the pitchers(exc. Jenks) into the game. That's the tricky part. It must be a deficit in Ozzie's intellect. LMAO. So true. What's Ozzie supposed to "manage" when after your starter's done, you've got... nothing, and Jenks. Nothing, and Jenks. Like no other year before, the moment the starter leaves the mound I start crawling under the seat, knowing we're about the blow the game. Like last night. I can only imagine what Ozzie feels like.
  12. First come first serve. You need to get to the park way early to get into those seats.
  13. I had no idea Buehrle was so young. SIGN HIM.
  14. I agree with Steff I don't think KW give's a rat's ass what the public or Sox fans think. The ONLY possible pressure--and this is a long shot--might be that this teams sucks so bad (and '06 was a bust) he may feel some pressure to buy some goodwill by signing Buehrle, the fan favorite. Then again, this is the guy who has no problem having a public spat with Frank and Magglio, also fan faves, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
  15. Sign him. Absolutely. I love Buehrle and he's the one Sox player I'm having trouble letting go. Anybody else, fine. But he's worth it. NOTE TO BOARD: if we resign him I will, that week, go and buy a Buehrle jersey (which I've wanted for a long time)--the vest one (the only one I'm missing). So they can put that $150 towards his payroll, LOL.
  16. I never liked Borchard (although that was a nice dinger) but I'm glad for him that he's enjoying a career down there. Now if only the players we DO keep could do the same...
  17. KC is very boring. I go there about 5x year. The best thing going is the BBQ. Try Jack's Stack--good stuff. The Plaza district is where all the main restaurants and some of the bars are--although it's more like a suburb than a city. The park itself is in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere. In the city itself with few exceptions there's not much going on at night. But then again, if you're going to a game, you can follow the herd and ask around.
  18. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) I understand your frustration, but holding onto the relics of the 2005 team will get us nowhere. But consider this, from the 2000 Division winner only four players logging MLB time were on the 2005 World Series roster. As trivia, name the players: One logged 14 ABs. One was a regular position player (logging 500+ ABs). One pitched in 28 games, started 3, logging 51.1 IP with a 4-1 record and 4.21 ERA One pitched in 15 games, started 13, logging 69.2 IP, with a 4-8 record and 6.46 ERA Anyway, the point is that it looks like the roster needs to go through significant turnover before we contend again. Believing anything else at this point is to deny reality. I hear ya. I just can't believe that his team that "on paper" was supposed to be better than '05 turned out to be such a total bust. Oh well. Let me put it this way: if we were going to hold on to one veteran, I would pick Buehrle. I'd rather give up Garland or (obviously) Contreras. But... not my decision...
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) Why would your heart sink? After Heilman's struggles last night... I think it's becoming more than likely that we could get a freaking boatload for Mark. Think Lasting Milledge, Aaron Heilman, and Mike Pelfrey? We would feel the positives of a deal of this magnitude much more than Mr. Tarp Slider. Plus, if we DO love mark so much, we make this trade and then sign him... if we're going to sign Buehrle, its not going to be till the offseason anyway, why not get a boatload for him right now?? Regardless, Mark won't be wearing a White Sox jersey next year, so having him go down with the ship this year would make no sense. My heart would sink because a Buehrle trade would be irrefutable proof that we have given up on this season, and we're in rebuild mode for at least a few years. I still have a sliver of hope that this team can turn it around this year; of course the balancing act is not holding on to that hope where the window passes to get the most for people like Buehrle. But "rebuilding" does not encourage me with current management. When you cannot even get to the playoffs with your WS team (finishing third) and you are going to tie for dead last the year after that and white-flag it with most of that core team intact.... do you really think there's any glory in the future after it took us 88 years to get to the big one? When Kenny has gotten us into the playoffs, what, once? In other words, I think we're in for another loooooong stretch of being has-beens in the Central. And I'm not looking forward to that. Hey, at least tix will be easier to get.
  20. The polish with onions is the must-have food at the Cell. Corn off the cob is good. The burgers/hot dogs at the concession stands (the ones that serve a bunch of things) you can skip. As for Taste--totally overrated and crowded as hell. Go in the morning/before noon; go on a weekday--it's much more manageable. BTW guys there's fireworks every Wednesday night off Navy pier and not 1,000,000 people there like there will be on July 4th. I went to Grant Park on the fourth once. Once. Never again.
  21. FWIW I was watching Yankees/Mets on ESPN last night and both of them started talking about a Buehrle trade almost matter-of-factly, like this was inevitable. My heart sank, as they seemed convinced that this wasn't even news and that it would happen soon.
  22. Wow! Is this our Sox? Puttin' em away late! UNHEARD OF!
  23. It takes a lot to get Lee pissed so I gotta side with him on this one. I'm no Cub fan, but I think D. Lee is a class act and one of the best baseball players around. Fun video though! Damn! What a year: the CUBS are throwing punches at everyone in sight and we're... well I don't know what we are.
