Hey and Thorton got the save? Nice.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) LOL, love your avatar, BTW...

Hey I'll take it. Upside: the bullpen finally comes through. Downside: the rest of 2007 season. But hey: boom goes the dynamite!
-
Did you know that the field there is in St. Pete and not Tampa? It's across the bay. This is the kind of thing I entertain myself with when I'm waiting for the bullpen to blow it. But, as DJ informs us, when you touch stingrays in the tank at Brookfield Zoo, they're "slimy."

Well if that's the case then that f***ing infuriates me. Then get the hell out. I'd rather take my chance with call-ups. This reminds me of an alleged story last year floating around that before we were even out of it officially, players were making arrangements to get cars shipped out West/South, etc., and that sort of thing--as if they were prepared to go down. Same idea, Steff? -
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...ex.html?cnn=yes He has a point: what have we really got to trade? Besides Buehrle and Garland? Really?

Well, can we get some sort of idea about what was seen that would explain the team this year? -

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) i think you get into dangerous territory when you start trying to define "good fan" and "bad fan." everyone deals with this kind of failure in their own way and i don't think any one course of coping or other shows whether you are a good fan or a bad fan. i tend to respect everyone's right to react however they see fit. I think you're spot-on. While I don't think the White Sox should "go to hell," I can understand the kind of frustration that would incite that kind of mentality. For me it means no longer trying to go to as many games as possible, or caring about watching them on TV. The idea that we're going to have to sit through at least another half and then offseason to contend is especially brutal. But whether it's a bag on your head, going to the games regardless, whatever--people show their displeasure in different ways. I think if they weren't Sox fans (real ones), they wouldn't bother posting here. I wouldn't. And I'm sure some of the guys here didn't suffer through some of the 80s teams too, BUT, to their credit, those teams seemed to at least try whereas this team seems like a collection of once-glorious champions who just don't give a crap. The loser Cubs schooled us on Sunday--I hate them but THAT team was everything that we are not yesterday. Full of piss n' vinegar and making things exciting. When was the last time you felt that way about this club? -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) 2. I know first hand that they don't care and I've been saying it since the start of the season. This is a group of passive boys who care more about getting drunk and their golf game than how they do their job. !!!! I'd like to hear more about this, if you'd care to spill. What'd you hear? -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) Lame. That's the same crap Cub fans have spewed for years and there isn't an ounce of truth to it. Part of the damn reason why the Cubs always have and always will suck is that their management and ownership know that the lemmings will pack Wrigley and watch on WGN come hell or high water, so they have no incentive to put a quality product on the field. Hence, the true blue fans are part of the problem. They're enablers. For me, there is no logical or rational reason to continue supporting this team. To do so is insanity. EDIT: treed by ten minutes lol BINGO! WINNAH. "Enablers" is right. As soon as the Sox show me that I can come to a game and have a REASONABLE expectation that I might see a win, I'll be there, trust me. Even a tough loss I could handle. But this cannon-fodder June is just too much to take. -

I'm astounded at the people here who think people who are going to stop going to games as long as this team sucks are being disloyal. One of the reasons the Cubs have sucked for so long is that they fill that stadium no matter what; I have always prided myself on the idea that Sox fans vote with their feet. I've been to 15 games this year (including freezing my ass of in a -20 wind chill in April) and my record is 5-10. So no, I don't plan to go back anytime soon. And now that makes me not a Sox fan? Pfft. Wrong. The only kind of message that people like JR understand is financial. Maybe when he sees the empty seats and sees the season ticket orders start plummeting he'll realize we're not there to consume whatever crappy product he puts on the field. I make no apologies for this and I am a lifelong Sox fan. "Disloyal" would be switching teams. But showing our displeasure is a Sox tradition and I'm glad that guy with the bag on his head made it on TV--because this team is truly embarassing. I'm not asking for wins every time when I go, but I've had enough of dismal, pathetic losses where nobody even seems to try, or care. CAVEAT: if they re-sign Buehrle, I will at least try to go to games to see him pitch. That's the one thing that could salvage the season for me personallly. -
QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) I agree the intensity isn't as much as it used to be and I could pretty much care less about the cubs these days but if you can't enjoy this series for what it is and how unique and fun it is to have two teams in the same city who pretty much despise each other than you pretty much suck at life. These are unfortunatly probably the last "meaningful" games of the year so enjoy it...lets beat the crap out of Zambrano today and wake up this team... okay I am amped now, time to go change into my baines jersey and get to the game early... TRUE DAT. I just hope we don't get rained out!
-
I agree the intensity died after 2005 (VERY noticeable last year), but it's still fun! C'mon guys, it's Chicago! This is a tradition!
-
As somebody who has been to all the Cubs/Sox series at both parks for at least the last three years, I can say the crap between fans has been pretty good-natured. I stood in RF at Wrigley last month next to some Cubs fans and while we were razzin' each other the whole time, it was all in good fun. I'm sure there's still a-holes around who take it too far, but it's been nothing but fun for at least the past few years, whether there or at the Cell. I wouldn't miss it.
-
Well, YEAH, but c'mon--Cubs/Sox!! This is FUN! We're one of the few cities in the U.S. that can have a crosstown rivalry--enjoy it! I love it. Except when we lose of course. It's even more fun invading Wrigley in a Sox jersey. Smells like... victory...

When will this team win 10 games in a row?
LVSoxFan replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How does a guy go from being awesome SS god in '05 to this? Or Gooch at 2B? I just don't get that. -
I agree I think McCarthy got shafted when he was shoehorned into a reliever role he wasn't meant to have and when that didn't work, the Sox used it against him. And isn't that really KW's blunder, and not McCarthy's?
-
Look I've been open to Ozzie criticism all year but c'mon! WTF is he supposed to DO with this team? I've seen him try everything from juggle lineups to play good cop/bad cop with the bullpen and really, all the players. Ozzie's managing doesn't make Tads drop s***ty bunts, or Uribe boot slightly-off throws he could have caught if he weren't lazy. Ozzie's managing has nothing to do with the crap run production of... THE ENTIRE LINEUP. These men are paid millions to produce and they're all hovering around the Mendoza line? I'll tell you what will happen if we fire Ozzie; he'll end up somewhere else and turn into the next Tony LaRussa. If we want a fall guy, let's start with Greg Walker, then KW, and let's not forget the fire sale. But Ozzie is last on my list right now. If he were managing the Yankees I'd say boot his ass, but he has nothing to work with.

LVSoxFan replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sure. I think that the Cubs/Sox series is the line in the sand, and if it goes badly for us you're going to see immediate movement. Whether it be Buehrle to the Mets (God I hope not) or something else, but there will be no more false hope or pretending that we're going to stay put. Not only would that be our fourth consecutive series loss to an NL team, but to the CUBS no less and like it or not, that, symbolically, would be probably the final straw as far as KW is concerned (and Ozzie for that matter). The only question mark to me is whether KW trades-to-save-the-season (which, really... is that even possible?) or literally writes off '07 with an eye towards '08. That pains me greatly, BTW: to have to wait until spring training '08 to start feeling like we'll see what our chances are. It was such a long wait for '07 season to come (hell it always is, although the gap between '05 and '06 seemed shorter thanks to October ball). -
I think the WBC is one of the dumbest ideas ever. I'm suprised that MLB owners signed off on it.

When will this team win 10 games in a row?
LVSoxFan replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah I guess that sounds about right. 5 or more. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) The Sox haven't had a winning streak of more than one game in over a month. May 20-22 the Sox won 3 straight games. May also brought a 2 game and 4 game winning streak and April was home to a 2 game and 4 game as well. The last win streak of 5 or more games was August 10-14 of last season anything longer than 5 and you have to go back to June 14-24 2006 when the Sox won 9 straight against terrible NL Central teams. That 9 game win streak last year was longer than any stretch of wins the Sox had all of 2005 though they did have 6 eight game winning streaks if you count the postseason. There you go. That's what I thought. First half last season. Thanks. -

QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) are you serious, 10 in a row? i hate to be debbie downer, but they cant even win 2 in a row and you want 10. priceless. the firesale is coming after this cubs/sox series. they couldnt do it before this. we need middle infield prospect who are major league ready big time. I think you are right on about the firesale trigger being the series this weekend. And it should be, unless you want to wait two weeks until the ASB and I'm sorry, as much as I always hold off until that date each year, if they tank this series I hardly think two weeks is going to mark any turnaround. I mean, think about it: we just lost consecutive series to: the Phillies, the Pirates and FLORIDA. All NL teams!! One more NL team series loss and I think it's fair to say we're done. Speaking of which, when WAS our last winning streak? I know we haven't had one this year and I remember noting all second half last year that we had none. I do not think we've had a streak of wins since 1st half 2006. Anybody know? -
He's right on Lawrence 'cause God knows there ain't nothing going on in KC, lol...

I think VAfan has some nice points, although watch it with that Rowand talk, because there are some here that will open fire on you for that. The only point I disagree on is: Buehrle. I'd build my pitching around him, Garland and Danks. But, we have nothing else to trade for right? So it's a pickle. What a mess! You're right about the this far/this fast point--I thought last year tanked because there was probably some fatigue/hangover from 2005. I still believe that with the pitchers (notice this year) but HELL I never thought 2007 would be even worse!!!
