  1. I'm not sure what Ozzie did wrong last night. We had a guy in scoring position and three of our slugging veterans come up to the plate. One even with a fourth out after that botched foul. And none of them delivered. Ozzie screwed up how again?
  2. I know I'm gonna get strafed for this but again last night it happened. Does Thome ever drive people in in the clutch? This is getting old.
  3. I'll give you that his voice is grating. But his knowledge is kickass.
  4. I think I've learned more about baseball in four innings with Stoney than I have all season with the Hawkeroo. Dadgummit. I also noticed that Stoney talks about players who STILL ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME whereas Hawk's always going back...in...time to Cooperstown.
  5. Man, listening to Stoney in the booth with Hawk is like looking at a Maserati parked next to your dad's minivan.
  6. Yeah really. I was at the Masset Cubs game and thought: huh, there's a starter. Why not him?
  7. Has anybody ever witnessed a former ace just go over a cliff like Contreras has? Granted, I hated him 1st half of 2005 because he was inconsistent, but he'd STILL pull off a win now and then. And of course 2nd half and into 2006 he was arguably the best pitcher in the league. And now... this. I'm not mocking him, it just makes me sad to see a guy fall apart completely like that. I've seen relievers have great years and then go over the Cliff (Politte, ahem) but this kind of absolute meltdown is something I've never seen before. And he just seems mentally absent, like he doesn't care about the game, himself, anything (he never really was an emotional guy to begin with). Simply bizarre. Does anybody have ANY explanation?
  8. Just to I understand the Mack trade (BTW Yahoo! Sports rated us a "losers" when it came to "winners & losers" of the trading frenzy), We traded away a solid multi-positional player who had some competitive spark. What we got was: s*** on a shingle. Just wanted to confirm that.
  9. Please, please no more Erstad. He's like that character from Unbreakable.
  10. I agree with bringing Sweeney up--what are we waiting for? That dropped ball by Pods was a game-killer. How do you miss one like that? Fields has done a nice job of filling in for Crede; I think it's time we let Sweeney show his stuff too.
  11. The consensus among my crowd at the game last night--where I first learned of the trade--was: bad. Gooch is the one guy I WOULD keep; not having a great year, but who is on this team? We all thought Dye would be the one to go. I'm not too happy about this.
  12. It was amazing being there last night and watching the team go up more than once and... Grandpa just would give it right back to them. Awful. He is a shell of 2005.
  13. That's an interesting question, and I've love to see the background of today's great players (Jeter, Manny Ramirez, Guererro, etc.) and see how they came up, if there's any sort of commonality.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Hawk does say some curious things, like when he watches the game he doesn't watch the ball he watches the hitter. If that is true how come he is constantly b****ing about a pitch 2 inches off the plate immediately after its called a strike. When we start all over again in 2008 hopefully that will mean in the booth, too. DJ I'm okay with but Hawk annoys me to no end at this point. If I never hear "dadgummit!" again as he squeals it, it will be too soon. Put Black Jack in the booth with DJ; I liked that.
  15. Why do we have a hillbilly in the booth in... Chicago?
  16. If I were there tonight I'd give him a rousing ovation so I suspect plenty of people will do just that.
  17. I still watch, but as time drags on and we sink further and further I start losing interest. I stopped watching last season for at least the last month. I'd imagine I'll get tired of it pretty soon this year. But I do want to see Buehrle pitch and I like Haeger too.
  18. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) It couldn't be as ugly as the one against the Twins, or could it.... Speaking as one who was at both that day; that sucked. First there was the keystone cops, five-error first game (cue "Yakkity Sax"), which I took my mom to. No wonder she hasn't called me in two weeks. Then, like an idiot, I figure I'd el it home to the north side and come back for the night game, since my regular crew would be at that one. Oh, they were. Apparently the only ones who didn't show up were the Sox and I believe that one was like 12-0 or 11-1 or no, wait: it was a shutout. That would be my fifth game that July 4th week, for which I went 1-4. Could it get uglier? I guess not, because nobody has any expectations any more. Here's the ugly part: at that point I'd had it so I skipped the Sat/Sun games. Of course, we won both. Check my sig... That said I might hit the day game, though, if the weather's nice.
  19. Seriously, isn't Erstad the definition of bench guy? I'm not dissing him, just pointing out that you have a guy like that as a backup--experience, he can hit, plays multiple positions. But at his age and with his made-of-glass body, if you start him aren't you really just counting down to the next injury? JMO. And where is Sweeney? What are we waiting for with that guy?
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) Chances are at least one of these guys will get hurt again within 2 weeks. That's why I think Terrero will stay. Yo I'm in on this bet! I say it's Erstad first. Seeing that it's been a while, he gets spooked by the fireworks after "Thunderstruck" starts and tweaks a hammy, knocking him out for all of August. Who's with me?
  21. I saw that this morning, too, about bringing guys up, and thought the same thing you did. Why not? The season's gone, pressure's off--now would be the time one would think. And others here share my sentiment that I'd rather watch young guys lose with heart rather than this tired, veteran corpseball team lay down and die every game pretty much. Josh Fields was taking some stick from the Squawk yesterday on-air for his baserunning gaffe but hell, he's been one of the few bright spots this season. And he has some pretty damn big shoes to fill at third. He doesn't seem "damaged." I wonder if the real reason that we don't bring up our young guys is that maybe KW sees them as the only trade chips we have at this point. Unless you think clubs are going to trip over themselves to get creaky Dye, mental marshmallow Uribe or our very own Prior & Wood: Pods & Erstadt. Oh, and gee: let's hope Grandpa Contreras doesn't get shelled--again--next outing so we can find some club so desperate they would actually sign him. Hmm. Who else do we have? Gooch, although I'd hold on to him. So that leaves us with... //crickets
  22. I did some checking in the White Sox Encyclopedia and from what I can tell, we are on a pace to potentially finish last in the division which hasn't happened since 1989. Man! How did we fall so far from just two years ago!
  23. Wow. When was the last time we were in last place? I cannot even remember.
  24. Well so much for that. At least Haeger looked good. I look forward to seeing him pitch more. Love the knuckleball stuff.
  25. Well this game sure has gotten interesting.
