  1. Boy he really stepped in it this time. You can tell he's Venezuelan, not realizing what Castro means to Cubans here. My co-worker says MLB will probably nail him too.
  2. How can you not love a guy that throws a SCREWBALL, for God's sake. Awesome.
  3. LOL I read this this morning and wasn't going to post it but didn't want to endure the pile-on of WHY DO YOU READ COWLEY!? abuse. So I applaud the restraint here. Anyway, I was glad to read this because it simply confirms something on which we could only speculate all last year, even though it wasn't actually a secret that this was an Ozzie/KW feud. And now that is confirmed. By far the most troubling part of the piece is Ozzie going on about his family. You mean your idiot son, who would insult players and management on the Internet? That seemed to start this whole thing rolling downhill and IIRC Ozzie never apologized for that nor did he ever talk about rebuking his son for that idiocy. This whole "My sons can do no wrong" attitude is just retarded. And a huge reason why it's a relief that he's not here anymore. That's my take.
  4. Hands down Paulie, even when Buehrle was here (who was my all-time favorite player BTW). I don't think most people outside of Chicago knew who Buehrle was. Well until the Perfect Game at least.
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 07:27 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-213929721.html Pretty sad how far behind we are on something like this from Minn. OK that was pretty damn funny.
  6. Sox commercial. I kind of like how understated it is. The photography is badass too. What say you?
  7. Taking the optimist route, but having no expectations, this is what I see as positives: -If the rotation stays healthy, I think we've got something there -Finally without all the Ozzie/Coop/KW soap opera, we can see where Peavy's really at -This year can't possibly be as bad as last year, in that Dunn seems to be back on track, Ozzie's gone, and we've got young talent and we'll find out if they can really play because Ventura doesn't seem like the sort who's going to mismanage players due to some ulterior motive -Paulie's still here, as is AJ So why not? My problem last year wasn't so much the losing, it was the total lack of enthusiasm combined with Ozzie's needless sandbagging and the Dunn/Rios fail. Dunn seems in a different place; if Rios can pull his head out of his ass we could actually have some enjoyable games. Plus hey: it's baseball! Appreciate the game.
  8. I'm not sure that I want to hear any talk from players about how we've got everybody just where we want 'em after a season where they finished 16 games out of first place with essentially the same team minus Buehrle and Santos. I think a good rule of thumb for the next two months is just play. Sox attendance has steadily gone down year after year since 2006 (which granted got a bump from the 05 World Series win) and is down 20% from '08 which was the last time we won the division. Enough talk. Just play.
  9. Is Jordan Danks doomed to a life as a minor leaguer?
  10. Did anybody think it wasn't going to be Danks? I'm fine with this.
  11. This is bad. Jenks has been tarnished among Sox fans for years now, but he was a World Series hero. Hopefully he gets back on the wagon.
  12. If the Sox tank early again this year--and I hope they don't--but if they do and attendance plummets down to last year-like numbers I think that will be the only thing to force a change. You can have all the Elvis nights and stunts you want but it's hard to market a loser, especially if fans know early on there's no chance this season.
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) First Peavy now Sale....with the weather in Chicago the way it has been, the four horsemen of the apocalypse have to be getting saddled up. LOL!!!!! Well put. I'd agree with that... When Dunn starts slap-hitting oppo field singles, then you know the end is near...
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) Of course. Ozzie was horrible last year. It wasn't about winning, it was about showing up KW. He's probably lucky he's such a clown. What he did can get someone blackballed. I am TOTALLY on board with they should have dumped both of them at the end. Ozzie CLEARLY had to go but BOTH of them stopped making it about baseball and instead entirely about trying to screw the other one, both publicly and privately. It was like The Real Housewives of 35th St., except at least that show would have been entertaining. They both exposed each other's true nature.
  15. Personal feelings aside I'm trying to look at it simply as far as results. 2005: Thank you KW eternally, you will go down in history for that. But what since then? Granted The Blackout Game 2008 was great fun but did anybody expect that team to go beyond the first round? So where does that leave us? Looking at the last five years (2006-2011), one division win. Perhaps we should consider the non-winning years, in which we finished twice once, third twice, and fourth place once. So I guess my question, assuming this year doesn't get it done, is how many years can it be tolerated? Seriously I thought attendance last year would shake JR to his bones but I guess not yet. To be fair to KW, if he's just JR's puppet and JR's pulling all the strings then it really doesn't matter who you bring in or kick out.
  16. Um, so what that they hired Epstein? And who said anything about "worshiping" them? Easy on the hyperbole there bro! It's the Cubs we're talking about after all...
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) Which one, the trading for prospects down on their luck a little from San Diego (check) or the paying the entire bill for a starting pitcher to go away? Um, hiring Epstein & Co.? If you want to ding the Cubs for bad trades/acquisitions, that's rich territory although I think in that scenario we define living in a glass house.
  18. Why not praise the Cubs? That was a huge move. Just the kind of move we need IMO. Obviously Cowley is wording it in a way to provide maximum KW-bashing, but just because I'm a Sox fan doesn't mean I can't acknowledge they did something that I wish, quite frankly, we'd do.
  19. I got the sense that Konerko wouldn't be "dumped," that in fact he wouldn't mind being traded to a contender at this point. Look: if we all know this team's not going to do anything, you think he doesn't know that?
  20. It wasn't MY point in starting this thread but since you're all going to make it that, it's all yours. Have at it. Again. I'll even help: if you want an example of Cowley taking an obvious shot at KW, check out today's column. Later.
  21. No problem with that but it all seems sort of inevitable, right? I mean, we're sort of sitting on the fence between "rebuild" and still holding on to veterans with value and then of course the Dunn/Rios/Peavy trio. Maybe that's why KW blurted out "rebuilding" a few months ago only to walk it back some.
  22. You know, maybe that's what I'm getting at. I can't disagree with that. Does anybody seriously believe we have a chance to even win the division? I know it hasn't begun, yada, yada and no--I'm not saying I won't go to X amount of games or abandon the team. Might as well get on with it right? EDIT: the more I think about you said I think this is exactly what I would do. The rub is that KW is still GM.
  23. Can we not turn this into another interminable Joe Cowley thread? He isn't bashing KW in the article. I'M doing the KW bashing. I didn't even look at who wrote the article, I was more interested in Thornton's quotes. On-topic please...
  24. I think I'm trying to say that I feel like I've been watching the same team since July 2006, with the same results (save for that fun blip at the end of 2008 but face it, the only reason that happened was the Twins sucked as much as we did), and every year the same thing comes out of KW's mouth. It's just past old at this point. And as I noted, he sells off everybody and then what? You're gonna bring up all those awesome prospects you don't have? So, I truly don't think the Sox will fundamentally change until he is gone. Unless it doesn't matter whom you put there because JR is controlling everything. I will admit this is all somewhat heightened by the Cubs landing Epstein and the other guys.
