I liked the op, BW! Drunk or not this is just painful to watch.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) There's not going to be many people at the Cell to boo anybody. LOL that unfortunately is very true.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 02:00 AM) The Adam Dunn era in Chicago has not been fun. Never liked this move. Nothing against him personally but I never saw the value in having somebody who is HR-or-bust, most often bust.

As everybody has said, changing the diamond logo to the Sox logo was stoooooopid. Thank God I had one before they did that (hint: you can buy that diamond one as a patch and have it sewn on--I did). The stripe is too minor for me to get concerned about. I didn't even notice it until it was posted here. We have the coolest unis in baseball--quit screwing with them, I say.

Will Paul Konerko break Thomas's team HR record?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) That Dodgers game was awesome. Thanks for the service AJ, greatly appreciated. Oh, and yaaaay we got to yell obscenities at AJ now! YUP. That was the greatest non-WS 2005 moment! Thanks for reminding me! I JUMPED off the couch when he hit that walk-off.

There goes my last favorite '05 player. The only jersey I have for a current player now is Peavy. Trying... to get... excited... about... Tyler Flowers...

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) FWIW, I liked Youk. He was a big improvement and I was satisfied with his performance. Made the season more fun. Yup. That was definitely a high point of last season, when he came over. How can you not like the guy? Good luck to him, and thanks for last year.

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Why I love AJ. http://deadspin.com/5930722/aj-pierzynski-...hit-to-his-face Anyway, I don't know why you guys are so adamant against bringing back AJ. I mean, if the Sox can get a decent deal, you don't want a LH bat who is coming off the best year of his career? This.

espn says the sox are in need of a leadoff hitter

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) This thread begs the question of "what do the Sox need the most?" I would say it's not just in acquiring bodies. This is what we need the most in order to be a team that could finish 20 games over .500. Because of Flowers' great arm I won't say the Sox's biggest need is catcher. 1.) we need a third baseman who can hit and is able to field better than Youk, who was no Brent Morel with the glove. 2.) We need Floyd and Danks to be healthy all year long. The re-signing of Peavy means we do not have to acquire another starter if my first sentence comes true. 3.) We need Viciedo to emerge as a special hitter while repeating the year he had with the glove. We won't win anything with him being the Viciedo of last year. 4.) We need a reliable righthanded reliever, somebody named Joaquim Soria, although I realize that ship has sailed. Somebody just like Soria. Gotta get one. We also could use a reliever NOT NAMED Crain and Thornton, to become RELIABLE. I think our closer is fine for 3-4 more years until his arm falls off, the malady affecting most all closers. 5.) We need Beckham to hit better. There are too many nights our big boppers have pop-up-itis or strikeout itis. We just have to have a decent hitting second baseman to be legitimate contenders. Those are my list of needs for the team. I think they are fair. I think this is spot-on. -
I have said all year, and will continue to say that what's killing Sox attendance is how damn expensive the games are. I can't imagine being parents and having to take kids to games--unless it was a once-a-year proposition. The first clue to this was about mid-season when it was noted that TV and radio ratings for the Sox were actually UP but attendance was just pitiful. Hello!

I'm with Greg on this. I don't hate Dunn, I'm glad he had a massive comeback, and he seems like an ok guy. I just hate that style of play. I used to say the same thing about Thome and I'd get eviscerated here but there it is. If he's back, fine. If he's not, I won't be sad about it.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:01 PM) I'm so glad this family is not part of the Sox organization anymore Oney Guillen @Oneyguillen wow. awful signing. awful. god bless that money. but wow +1 Classless.

Rather than grade them all, I'd say Rios was the best overall/best comeback player this year. Or, perhaps most unexpected. AJ wins the award for most overpeforming veteran--not only was he hitting, he was actually throwing out base stealers this year. Sale was obviously The Man on the pitching staff, but Peavy shouldn't go unmentioned seeing that he got no run support. And Ventura thus far has been a pleasant surprise. All in all I give the season a B. We were supposed to totally suck and yet for many months this was a really fun team to watch.
-
I'm not all that worked up about this. They were way better than I thought. In fact, they were flat-out fun to watch for a couple of months there. I wouldn't call this a historic "collapse" when you look at things like the '03 Cubs or the Mets a couple of years back. I mean, this has been going on all month. In fact, it reminded me of '08 were it was between us and Minnesota, to see who could NOT run away with it, which was only salvaged by the blackout game. Going up 3 on the Tigers in that make-up game gave everybody hope, but the Royals/Anaheim series brought things back to Earth. And need I remind everybody of the '05 September Swoon, which would HAVE been the worst collapse--in the history of the Sox at least--so IMO this was pretty mild.

There is no way in hell Ozzie is ever coming back to the Sox to manage. Your "friend" is playing with you. He wore out his welcome with management, the media and the fans so there would literally be no upside to bringing him back. Oh, and did I mention how he wore out his welcome with the team, too? Many of them CLEARLY weren't sad to see him go. And if I had to listen to that act every day, I'd tune him out too. I just read the book about him. Halfway through it you just want him to shut up.

No kidding. Stone doesn't need to go, Hawk does. Please.

I'd say our inability to beat KC--they owned us this year--was ultimately what did us in. Just a thought.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) Even though it looks bad, and is a sore spot because of Cubs fans, I don't think the attendance drop is A) that financially impactful, given that we have maybe 10 percent less fans than the team could have reasonably expected B) much worse than the rest of baseball in this economy, and given the number of HD options / DVR options people have at home. Also, ticket prices are outrageous these days compared to what they should be, inflation adjusted, compared to the 90s. Look at Tampa, Oakland, Baltimore and Washington. All contenders - all not drawing. My take on it is this: the games are too expensive for the fan base. We do not have the blueblood/yuppie/upscale fan base or appeal that the Cubs/Wrigley Field does, so in a down economy we take the hit more than they do. That is why they're outdrawing us even though they suck and we've been in first place since July. I also draw this conclusion from something I read that said radio/TV ratings are actually UP this season, which tells me that the interest is there, just not the attendance. I think it's a logical conclusion then that the games are just too pricey to attend live. Two bleacher seats are $75. Beers are $7 each. Hot dogs, what? $5? $5.50? Water is $4. FOUR DOLLARS FOR A WATER. $20 for parking, etc., etc. To your point, what is the price of tix, inflation adjusted, compared to the 90s? I'd love to see that. The Cubs also have a non-baseball appeal and corporate clientele which we don't that helps sustain them. Any out-of-towner would accept an invite to go see Wrigley Field but ask about a Sox game and they'll say "Chicago has two teams?"

For real? We're one game out with seven games to go and people have closed the book on this season? WTF? This feels an awful lot like 2008, where we battled with the Twins to see not who could win it, but who could lose it. But we made it in. Why don't we save the next year talk when it's officially wait 'til next year?
-
I'm sick to death of Hawk and his cliches, but who cares if he's a homer? It's a LOCAL broadcast! It would be different if he were on FOX or ESPN doing a national broadcast, but DUH, who cares if the local announcers are homers?

9/18 White Sox at Royals

I'd like to see us pound KC for once this year and put even more distance between us and Detroit, so they have to sweat every last game of the season. -
Hearing the Texas feed is kinda cool. Did you know that in Texas the Ranger games on radio are FM, btw?

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) Soon enough the Tigers will come back down to earth, they just caught us at a bad time. A typical up and down season. Yes, imagine that......a baseball season full of ups and downs, Hmmm...I've never seen that before. The calls for blowing up the team already are insane and foolish. Let's just wait this thing out, it has been streaky all year. A good streak will come around, people need to relax Agreed. A rough patch to be sure but that's how seasons go. -
Best and Worst Sections, value in the park

Yeah but that's kind of true from most UD seats, I've found. It IS really hard to tell: is that going out or an easy pop? So that is one legit thing about UD--it's hard to gauge wear that ball is going, depth-wise.
