I might be the minority, but I'd take Tommy over Who's Next anyday.

Kyle Orton, drunk pictures......again.

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Ratings aside, yeah, Grossman is a better passer and leader than KO, but those Bear fans who think that Grossman is/will be one of the top, oh, 5 quarterbacks in the NFL need to go into rehab. I don't think anyone honestly believes that, but I could be wrong -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) Kyle Orton's QB Rating - 59.7 The Great Rex Grossman's QB Rating (including the playoff game) - 56.8 But i thought Grossman was such a huge upgrade over Orton. Are you kidding? If you didn't watch the games, don't make these type of blind comments, and if you did watch the games, you wouldn't be making this argument in the first place. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) Orton was a great college QB. Until he ran into PSU's defense -
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) yeah but it was like for 2 months. El Duque was recovering from an injury for most of the 1st half. Yea, thats what I was wondering. I wasn't sure if Duque was actually healthy during the time they shared in New York.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) HUH? Just because a player hasn't hit .260/.400 before doesn't mean it can't be done. Because SoxFan101 thinks that Youkilis is "a stiff" (his words). He claimed this because Youkilis supposedly hits .260 (although since everything I have said about Youkilis in the majors is based on if his minor league numbers [where he hit .299 in his minor league career] translate to the majors) ,and has more K than BB (also wouldn't be true because of the situation I have been describing the whole time about if his minor league numbers translate, but lets ignore that fact for now). I do not believe that him hitting .260 is a bad thing considering the fact that he puts up an extremely high OBP, and for this reason I don't think his batting average make him "a stiff". The reason I brought up the question was to find out which he values more from a top of the order (#1 or #2) hitter, average or on-base percentage. If he values batting average more, I'll just give up now. If he values OBP more, then I'm curious as to why Youkilis is considered a stiff. And I said that Boston shouldn't go after Lee because they have more pressing needs than 1B, considering the fact that they have a good, cheap inhouse option there.

Wasn't El Duque on the Yankees when Contreras was there? Didn't make a difference for Contreras there, so I think their relationship is rather overated. Won't really know until the season starts though.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) There is much, much more that goes into being a top of the order hitter then just obp. You have to supply much more details of the two players before you can decide on that. Assume everything else is equal. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Why would I even answer that in the first place is Youkilis going to bat leadoff.... I said top of the order, meaning batting first or second. That question has nothing to do with Youkilis, and if you answer it, that would be cool. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Felix, I have already shown you that there were no .260 BA, .400+ OBP in the league last season. Before Barry Bonds had 73 homeruns in a season, no one had done that either. That question has nothing to do with Youkilis. It has to do with the concept of low BA, but high OBP compared to high BA, but low OBP. I'm curious as to which he would take.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) and where have I ever said I hated Billy Beane and everything about him..... because Youkilis is a stiff and I call you out on that means I hate Billy Beane? Youkilis isn't a stiff however. If your evidence that he's a stiff is that he hits .260 and has more K than BB, then something is wrong with you. And you still haven't answered my question: QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) And just a question, if you had the choice of two top of the order hitters, players A and B, which would you take? Player A hits .260, but has a .400 OBP and player B hits .300, but has a .330 OBP.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) I just don't see how you could let a 40 homer, gold glover in the middle of his prime leave because you have a guy who walked a lot in the minors. Because they have more pressing needs than a 1B to spend their money on, such as pitching, or a CF.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) No, you said he was a better bargain. Which, when you factor in Derrek Lee as a possible triple crown candidate, just doesnt hold true with me. I just dont think anyone would envision Youkilis being a good alternative when you see what Lee can bring to the table. I think that if Youkilis' minor league numbers indicate anything about his major league numbers, and if Lee plays like he has throughout his career (.276/.363/.662 34 2B, 28 HR, 86 RBI with solid defense), then yes, Youkilis will be a bigger bargin. Youkilis will be making near the league minimum, Lee will be making an extremely large contract. I know, which is why i think its unlikely that they do that I didn't say this is what Boston would do, I said this is what I would do if I were in their shoes.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) if you would have said what you said about Youkilis without bringing Derrek Lee into the equation, I wouldnt have said a thing. My point about Derrek Lee is that he's going to get paid a s***load in FA, and Boston has more pressing needs than a 1B. I think they should spend their money on pitching, rather than a 1B since they already have a pretty good alternative for that position. I never said Youkilis was a better player than Lee.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) Yes it is a bad thing to K a lot... but all those players make up for it with power/avg. etc.... your love child Youkilis doesnt. My love child? I said he was going to be a good player, how the hell does that make him my love child? Just because you seem to hate everything that Billy Beane thinks is good doesn't mean those players, or his system, suck. I think he's an overrated GM as well, but he's great when it comes to finding good prospects and value players. Youkilis is a good player. As I've said all along, if his minor league numbers translate into his major league numbers, then he will be a bargin in the major leagues. I think that his minor league numbers can/will translate into major league numbers, so I think he is going to be a good player. Does that make him my love child? How dare I think a player who has good minor league numbers will be good in the majors!

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Ah, yes, good work, where did you find those stats? Very limited sample size, but seems like he doesn't hit as well on 3-1 as I assumed. Huh. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) But WSJ backed it up with Mike Hart being a heisman favorite and Desmond Howard being a successful NFL receiver. Jason Avant is the next Jerry Rice. Just wait!

If Pods is in CF to start next year while Anderson is in LF, I will glue my eyes shut. Then, I won't have to watch Pods misplay 10 balls a game..

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) As long as he hits 40+ home runs and drives in 100+ runs next year, he could have had a bunch of trained monkeys write it for all I care. "It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times" Man, I wish I had trained monkeys to write my letters. I heard they can write like Shakespeare!

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) Yea, Uribe is a freaking god on 3-1. I wish I knew the stats when he is ahead in the count--but he crushes fastballs in the zone. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Jets are looking to trade down to a pick between 10-15. And I feel sorry for the Bears With the 26 selection the Bears take Michael Hart running back Michigan. yikes pfft.. its going to be Jason Avant!

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Hey, southsider, careful with the ñ. Without that, your message to Ozzie would never make the airwaves. Ozwaldo, ¡feliz cumpleaños! tilde* and its shift+` (right next to 1 on a keyboard) ~ (although having a letter with the tilde over it is different) Happy birthday Ozzie

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Whats the difference in all those players... Young hits for high avg. more power, A-Rod higher avg lot more power, Dlee more power and avg plus gg defense, Cabrera power and avg, konerko a lot more power, and etc...... how do you even compare youkalis to those players.... I wasn't comparing them at all.. where did I say I was? You seemed to think that striking out more than walking is a really bad thing. I was naming good players that have a K:BB ratio of more than 1:1.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) ok and why dont you name those players that hit in the .260's and tell us how good they are that dont hit for much power. Or, you could look for yourself and answer that question yourself because I'm too lazy to name them all. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/battin...l=true&count=81 Also: QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) And just a question, if you had the choice of two top of the order hitters, players A and B, which would you take? Player A hits .260, but has a .400 OBP and player B hits .300, but has a .330 OBP.
