I voted "I'll wait and see", but I'm leaning toward "Terrible Trade"

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) how? Vizcaino is a Mop Up guy. You can find those anywhere. El Duque is the guy I didn't want to give up however you have to give up something to get something. Plus Young is a Prospect. Prospects=Suspects. There have been a ton of great prospects for the Sox like Olivo, Borchard, and Diaz. What have they done? Chris Young for Javier Vazquez is one sided enough. We have 5 starters without Vazquez, and we throw in our best prospect for a 6th. Then, we threw in two other pitchers. It doesn't make sense to me unless Garland is already being dealt elsewhere. Plus, Vazquez is not that good of a groundball pitcher.. the balls will be flying out of US Cellular Field. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Yes. And the biggest thing we gave up for a future HOF'er in Thome was Aaron Rowand, who Brian Anderson is going to be better than anyways. And we dumped a mental midget for the best utility man in baseball. No, the biggest thing we gave up for Thome is Gio and Haigwood, our best lefty pitching prospects. And what does it matter if he's a future HOF? We are talking about how he will do next year, not how his career has been. And I was exctatic when we traded Marte for Mack.

We overpaid... again. This seems to be a thing about this offseason. We are getting good players, but overpaying massively.

I think that Crawford is extremely overrated on these boards. He's a great player who can hit, run, and play good defense, but unless he improves his plate discipline (he has a very low OBP, .331 last year, and .320 in his career), he won't be an elite one. His BB:K ratio isn't that great either..

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) 30 HR/30 SB is pretty studlike to me....Although he doesnt really put forth in effort unless the team is good or he has some personnel goal. That being said this is his contract year so he might have a really big year Look at his home/away splits. He sucks anywhere outside of TBIA. Thats not being a stud player..

Dodgers sign Alomar Jr. to one-year contract

QUOTE(toasty @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) didnt you know that they were talking about alomar SR??? Except then saying that they played against the Marlins in the WS wouldn't make sense, since the Marlins weren't around in '77. Either way, this article loses! -
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) Cantu's playing 3rd. He lead the team in RBIs last year, I think he's got that spot in hand. As the team stands currently, Huff would play 1st. Lugo, Upton, and Green share ss and 2b. They would still have one extra OFer. Gomes (ROY candidate), Gathright (one of, if not the fastest guy in MLB), Baldelli (just got signed to a long term deal), Delmon Young (one of, if not the most highly touted prospect in all of baseball), and Crawford (disgruntled with Baldelli's contract) have to share 3 OF spots and 1 DH spot. Somebody's the odd man out when your team has one of the worst pitching staffs. Exactly, and I think Crawford would probably get the most in return, so while they don't lose much production since they already have an abundance of good outfielders, they definitely gain pitching (assuming any trade Crawford is involved in would include some pitching)

..right -
QUOTE(SouthSidein05 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Wrong, they have Huff at 3B, Gomes at DH, and Crawford, Baldelli, andYoung in the OF. Considering the fact that Huff played 4 games at 3B in 2005, and they just got Sean Burroughs, I dont think Huff will be starting at 3B.
-
QUOTE(SouthSidein05 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) I know he's making the league minimun. His 2005 salary was $625,000 Thats not the league minimum.

QUOTE(SouthSidein05 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Where did you har Crawford is unhappy in Tampa? The first post..
-
QUOTE(SouthSidein05 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Through Rational thinking. Put yourself in the shoes of Tampa. You can trade Aubrey Huff, Danys Baez, Joey Gathright, quite a few valuable players for solid arms. You cannot trade a player who has a chance of molding himself into Bobby Abreu for a pitcher in Brandon McCarthy. It's just preposterous. They have plenty of other trading chips, and those players are all dealt before Crawford. Tampa has Jonny Gomes, Delmon Young, Joey Gathright and Rocco Baldelli already in the outfield (I'm assuming Huff would be DHing). They have an abundance of outfielders which other teams would be interested in, and since Crawford is unhappy in Tampa, and likely would get the most in exchange, he would be the most obvious one to move. Also, Bobby Abreu? Far from it. Once you start thinking along the lines of Alfonso Soriano, then you'll be on the right path. (Crawford has a whopping career .320 OBP, and has never had more than 35 walks in a season)
-
QUOTE(SouthSidein05 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) No they wouldn't, becuase they'll trade just about anyone on thier roster with the exception of BJ Upton, Delmon Young, and Scott Kazmir for pithing before they trade Carl Crawford. And you know this how? If a team were to offer a slew of young, quality pitching for Carl Crawford, they would be silly not to take it.
-
QUOTE(SouthSidein05 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) Explain yourself. He's young, very cheap, and he's getting much better every season. The Rays signed him to a 6-year deal last season, and by the time that 6 year dealis close to done, he could be a .300/25/100 50 SB's. Your a team like the D-Rays, who are so cheap, he is an untouchable, no matter how you slice it. The D-Rays would take young pitching, Brandon McCarthy, in exchange for him. They have a lack of pitching, but an abundance of young hitting. For that reason along, he's not untouchable.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) Is my boner for this trade just here because you guys keep "fluffing it" or is this really a possiblity? Its quite fluffed on these boards. I don't think there is any chance of this deal being done.

Excellent Phil Rogers article on Mackowiak
Felix replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hell, I'll join your Mack fan club -
Tampa Bay is rebuilding. You dont rebuild with a 50 year old pitcher who gets hurt throughout the year. El Duque wouldn't even be considered on their behalf.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) Steelers 6 Bears 4 oh wait........that was Iowa/Penn State last year. My brother was at that game. He thought it was hilarious
-
QUOTE(bogie @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) you wouldn't want him if the deal was right? The deal won't be right, and can't be right. His salary is too large, and he gave up on his team last year. The White Sox don't want overpaid players who give up on their team.. its not a fit. Give it up.

How long until this thread gets deleted for just being stupid?

Its Mark until Mark isn't on the Sox anymore.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) I love the Frank Thomas of 1990-2000, but it is going to be 2006. I just don't see that Frank coming back. There are too many variables and things going against him. All he has to do is roll his ankle once and his career is over. That is like playing Russian roulette. It is not a matter of if but when. And thats true, but thats not what this poll is asking. Its asking, no matter how unrealistic it is, if Frank Thomas and Jim Thome were 100% healthy for the entire 2006 season, would you rather Frank and Aaron or Jim and Anderson?
-
QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) You are either sentimental about Frank's run here and Rowand's part in the championship, or you think Frank will be healthy for a full year (very unlikely). Before you point to Thome's injury last year, look at his career #'s - he is not injury prone like Frank. According to the poll, both players would be 100% healthy, which I took to mean not going to get hurt during the year.
-
Frank and Rowand without a doubt in my mind.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) Blue Jays Tigers Which would you choose? Blue Jays easy. Tigers are miles behind them in my book..
