I'm about to get a dog actually, so thanks for the info. We have used Hartz for 13 years on my dog back home. Never a problem.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) Yeah right. I don't think players want to play in Oakland. So? A good agent would parlay multiple offers or more interest into more money. His value automatically increases because more teams are interested. Look at Putz. If KW is to be believed, the offer had to be upped by about $500k just because more teams suddenly were interested when word got out about the deal. Putz wanted to come to the Sox, but that doesn't mean they are going to take an offer well below market value.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Does anyone else almost always wake up feeling guilty after a night of drinking? I don't know why, but I always feel like I did something wrong. Yes. I feel like I'm an awful degenerate who's wasting his life when I have a hangover even though I have nothing to do. I read that it's part of the brain's reaction to alcohol.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Will be interesting to see what he gets vs. Pierre costs here. ESPN sources say it will be a one year, 4.5 to 5M. Hmm... Basically it was worth two prospects to the Sox to save a couple mil in 2010 at the leadoff spot. Well, that plus the fact that they're getting a healthier player who is coming off better recent production. Well you also have to assume that the price would have been higher if the Sox were also bidding on him. Not a lot higher, but maybe $500k-$1M higher.

I read it. I didn't think it was that great, but it was entertaining. Whether it's true, I don't know, and I don't care. Frankly, I hope it isn't. For the good of humanity.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) During the regular season probably, but during the playoffs , absolutely not. Aside from last year when they had way too many off days between games, having 4 good starters tends to be better in the playoffs than going to a 3 man rotation with 2 aces.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) Just to throw this out there, Jimmy Rollins has a career OBP of .329 (.296 this season) and the Phillies haven't exactly sucked with him in the leadoff spot. Rollins can hit 20 home runs. OBP isn't everything, but Rollins can make up for OBP deficiency with some power.

Dunn is owed $12M next season. I can't see the Sox picking that up, and the Nats aren't about to throw money in a deal for Dunn.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) A leadoff hitter who coincidentally enough, doesn't walk or get on base. This offseason has been very disappointing, IMO considering this move, and the year year deal to Teahen. Why wasn't the money ponied up for Figgins? Better player by FAR. Figgins is making $9M a year. Two years worth of Pierre. If the Sox get a real power hitter with the money saved, then this is a good move.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Essentially the Sox are giving them time to scout amongst a set number of players to pick two out of. I believe they can't be on the 40 man roster, but I could be wrong on that. I know someone will have better info. Whoops. I misread the quote. I thought the guys were already picked from the list. So now it makes more sense.
-
If the Dodgers have already picked them, then why are they considered PTBNL? I can't remember the rule on that.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) He has always struck me as that kind of guy. Do the home work, have alternatives... get it done. I also think it's why people here think he over pays in his trades. I think he'd rather offer a little extra talent to get the deal done quick rather than lowball and wait to let another team find out what he's doing and up the price beyond what he'd be willing to pay.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) So, basically he just moves fast? He doesnt work on a trade for weeks, he just goes in with an idea and gets it done in a day or two? I guess so. I assume that by the time he proposes a trade his work is done and he feels he is offering a a fair deal, and not one that has to be heavily negotiated.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Can i turn this thread a bit: How does Kenny make so many "I didnt see that coming" trades? Normally you start to hear whispers and leaks, but so often it's just BAM! a trade. I think he tells teams that time is of the essence. There was an article recently from the winter meetings and it was talking about how no other teams express the urgency of KW.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Except he's now done it 2 years in a row. I'll take Halladay's track record if the money is at all similar.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) As awesome as Halladay is, I'm trying to figure out how adding Halladay and losing a stud LHP like Lee makes the Phillies any better than they were last year? Lee always carries the fear that he can't repeat his success.
-
Last update says Lackey to Sawx for 5 years $85M.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) How does this make any financial sense for the Blue Jays? They're getting rid of Halladay to preserve salary, not take on a nearly equal load in Lee's. Rosenthal had this scenario a couple days ago. His "hypothetical" had a 3rd team involved to get Lee. Whoa, your post is gone...but preserved forever.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 06:26 AM) KW has made the most trades involving prospects by a pretty good margin since he's been GM. And not a single one of them has become an even above average major leaguer. You're right about the Yankees (although guys like Cano, Chamberlain and Hughes have come through their system). But the Braves have been a prospect factory for over two decades. Just off the top of my head guys like Adam Wainwright, Neftali Feliz, Joey Devine and Elvis Andrus were drafted/signed then traded. That's top flight major league talent. Not to mention guys like Tommie Hanson and Jason Heyward. If I'm a GM and I'm lookin' to trade for prospects, one of the teams I'd target would be the Braves. Not the White Sox. But props to Kenny. He obviously knows when to get rid of these guys. You would just think after a while GM's would catch on. You're not getting what I'm saying. I know top prospects flop in every organization. My point is that it's mind-boggling with our recent history of pathetic drafts, combined with the fact that out of the dozens of prospects KW has traded over the years that not a single one of them has amounted to anything, that GM's are still willing to deal with him. If I'm a GM, I don't even look Kenny's way. Yeah, I see what you are saying and I agree. IMO, teams still trade with KW because he is the only guy willing to trade prospects these days because he doesn't over value mediocre talent. Even if the guys aren't very good, they are young and cheap and can fill the roster. That's probably why we see deals with KC and Oakland so often. -
yeah that wasn't called for in as much as I don't need to see that.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) It's amazing KW is able to trade away as many prospects as he does. At this point, why would any GM even look at a White Sox prospect, let alone trade for one? BA is doing a top 10 prospects of the decade for each team. I can't wait to see ours. It's going to be Beckham and a bunch of raw sewage. Teams still trade with the Braves and Yankees. -
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) Something that has to do with Tyler Flowers, so when we trade him in a week's time you can make this thread again. TyDyed?

Since the San Jose game the Hawks have 7 out of 14 points. They have scored only 11 goals (4 in 1 game). All 3 wins have required over time (one OL). That's a struggling offense. But they have a stretch of home games coming up. Hopefully they get it together.
