QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) That's not unusual. Just means that in this direction, you have a negative wave first, it's going down first rather than going up. 20-30 feet out isn't all that far, when you consider that the slope is pretty shallow; that's only a couple feet down. It's low tide right now according to the CNN affiliate.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) Hey Balta, any chance the Haiti earthquake had anything to do with this? Some guy on CNN said that was highly UNlikely

Trib Tsunami to hit Hawaii, though, how big will be remains to be seen: Twitter Foxnews CNN is reporting that the tsunami will be about 10-12 feet high in Hawaii.

Doctor offers Vasectomies to get out of work and watch NCAA Tourney

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 02:56 AM) Right around this time every year I hear about this story, and with every passing year I find it weirder and weirder (and I've found it weird from the first time I ever heard about it.) Why? It's apparently the most popular time to get vasectomies anyway because it requires 2 weeks to recoup. -
We've been 20 inches below average for this time of year. Obviously we are about to play catch up.

The beauty part is that by the time that hits, we will already have a foot of snow from the current storm. Snow started at 2 or so this afternoon and we have 5 inches and it's coming down hard. Hoping for a snow day.

Accuweather Local news isn't really even talking about this yet.

I'm not an actuary, but I have a friend who tried. Went to Notre Dame and majored in math. Couldn't pass the actuary exams. Sounded like one of the hardest professions to get into.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) Nice one by Cora With Fields, I think it was drive. I still remember watching him boot a Miguel Cabrera ground ball (in the double header) and just look at the ball. It was fat Miguel Cabrera running to first with a bad hamstring for god-sake! He then complained about playing time after the second game when Gordon played. His defense was bad, but that's not why he's gone. And it wasn't "drive." It was inability to shorten his swing.

QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:50 AM) I dated a girl for almost 2 years in high school. Then I went away to college. She wrote me a letter about 2 months later to tell me she was pregnant... and that it wasn't mine. Sort of a sh***y way to end a relationship, but effective. At least she was honest.

Gordon Beckham: Player of the Decade and future HOFer

They also projected only a .279 BA. That seems low. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) We should probably wait before we start patting KW on the back for his strategy. If Damon ends up signing a 1 year deal for 6 million with the Tigers because the Sox pulled out, then KW's move will have backfired. I can already hear the quote: "The Tigers just wanted me more and, ultimately, that desire just won me over."

QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) I dont think thats the way it works, the agent works for the player. He tell Boras and boras makes the call. Not true. The player can initiate talks with the team without representation. The team cannot circumvent the agent because that would be a violation of the CBA. The ARod situation is the prime example.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Smart move by Kenny. He's tired of Boras trying to make the Sox bid against themselves. Apparantly the reported 2 year $14M offer from the Tigers was BS. Boras had the Sox' $6M offer in his pocket and he was trying to squeeze more out of the Tigers while at the same time hoping the Sox would up their offer. Now with KW publicly declaring his offer is off the table, Damon and the Tigers both know that there is no other offer. If Damon really wants to play for the Sox for $6M, he'll have to call KW and commit himself. If not, he's stuck playing in detroit for whatever their last offer was, which apparently he wasn't too thrilled about in the first place. I agree here. There was probably a Friday deadline to accept the deal, and if accepted, he could take a physical and be announced Sunday. Boras said he wanted more time and KW pulled the offer. And now with the offer stated publicly, the Tigers will probably give him 24 hours to accept whatever deal they have on the table before they drop it further.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) The rumors that Damon is more about the money then winning appears to be correct. So he's like every other player?

Looking at the Kumas Corner site, they have a fantastic beer selection. Aventinus (a beer I consider one of the best in the world)? Yes please.
-
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) "Best beer in the world" is wholly subjective, I agree. But I think Tremens, and all of the Malle products I've sampled, are superb. And $12 as a sit-down restaurant price for a bomber-sized bottle of Belgian craft beer I don't think is a bad price. If the same place is charging you $4-5 for a pint of American megaswill, I'll gladly skip that and drink the good stuff. At a beer shop, that same bottle is costing you $7-8, so, I don't think $12 at a bar or restaurant is too out of line. I don't think he's talking about a bomber. Tremens is expensive. I'd bet that $12 for a 12 oz.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) It is one of them. It won 1st in the beer championships in 1998 in Chicago and was named by an "expert" Stuart Kallen as #1 in his book of the 50 greatest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium_Tremens_(beer) Believe me, it isn't the best in the world though it is good. Go to Binnys and try it for way less than $12.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) Thank for your help guys, we contacted the clerk earlier today and she had said to just come to the next court date a little early and tell them that he would like to change his plea to guilty. The judge will then decide his fine Court clerks are awesome. I'm still confused as to why the judge issued a sentence of court supervision if he thought the plea was "not guilty", but I don't spend time in traffic courts.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) Am I the only one getting the impression from figure skating that shockingly few of the contestants are actually any good? Seems like every single routine I watch, there's at least 1, if not more than 1 major fall or error on the jumps. I feel like I watched these 12 years ago and the level of skill of the competitors was an order of magnitude better than what we've seen so far. I can say that the announcers rip most of the skaters for not being very good. Then someone they consider good falls down. Frankly though, I think the ice is a real problem. -
Court supervision will either entail a fine, traffic school, or both. It could be that the Judge set a date to render his decision on what the requirements will be. It is possible that the judge just misspoke and said "not guilty" by accident, but gave a proper sentence. Call the clerk's office and find out what the record states and what he is supposed to do to comply with the judge's order. At this point, you don't even know what is supposed to happen in March. Find out whatever you can from them. At this point, you can't just contact someone and have the ruling changed.

Any information I give is not legal advice, and I am not licensed in Illinois. Nevertheless, and for those who might be of more assistance, I am confused by what you are seeking. Your son pleaded guilty, was given a sentence that would only be given if he pleaded guilty, but swears that the judge said "not guilty"? I don't understand what changing the plea is going to do if in fact he was given a proper sentence. I can tell you this: changing a plea or a ruling is not easy. Generally, it requires a motion to the court and will only be granted in a few circumstances. Traffic courts might be different, however.
