  1. Huet absolutely sucks. It's unfortunate that the backup isn't any better. There has been some bad defense here as well though. But Christ, no defense has this small of a margin for error.
  2. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) It's really too bad that I had the long-distance relationship because it truly screwed up my first two years of college, where I could have spent that time figuring out where I REALLY wanted to go to school, what I REALLY wanted to study, and who I REALLY wanted to become. I really missed out on a lot, First step, leave the past behind. Don't regret that stuff. Just move forward like it never happened. Over analyzing my life would get me depressed. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) Many of you are echoing what the ex said, "Don't plan for anything. Live in the moment." Funny, when I didn't plan and just naively went into things the way I saw fit, I selected the wrong university, I changed schools, changed majors and the uncertainty grew to a point where any time I felt I was making a mistake I felt like failure was closer upon me. TO ME (Not to all of YOU) failure is not finishing college (or something that you've started), having to go work in an undesirable place, not being happy, and not completing your life goals. My goals? Finish the BA, get a job, find out what the f*** I WANT TO DO FOR A LIVING (sports management, PR/Marketing, web design, firefighting, high school guidance counseling, being a cop), keep expanding friend base, find purpose in life, date, date, date until I find someone, and eventually live the american dream with a wife and kids. That's not planned, that's just what I want. I repeat, THAT IS WHAT I WANT. Me and you are similar, except I didn't have your knowledge about how to be successful. I just took stabs in the dark, which I regret. Of course, had I tried to plan, I probably would have been a basket case. I have NEVER lived in any moment. I've never been happy when things didn't go my way. Then I went through a stretch where I felt like I couldn't do anything right. Nothing was working. If I tried to "live in the moment" I would regret what I did. Did I put off something important to do something stupid/fun? But part of what I told you above was about making decisions that I can stand by. And yes, this was a conscious decisions to stop making dumb pointless decisions. I wasn't going to put off studying to drink because my friends wanted me to. I put my priorities in order. The beauty is that eventually I trusted myself to make the right decision. I am still extremely confident that I make the right decision almost all of the time, no matter how big or small the decision is. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) Am I confident? Not really. Ever since college started I haven't felt the way I did in high school, I feel different, scared, behind all of my peers and like I'm not good enough for the world. I was the same way. Of course I was like that in high school too. But this is why you have trouble with women. You are looking for someone with confidence, who has her priorities straight, etc. But the girl you want is looking for the same thing. Instead you aren't confident, you don't have your priorities straight, and guess what? The girl you meet waffles on whether she wants you because she doesn't have confidence. You attract people similar to yourself. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) Lastly, I think I would be more confident if I had a little bit more to say to people. Though I'm probably overanalyzing a conversation, I generally have a hard time trying to figure out what I want to know about a person, especially when engaging in a conversation at the bar with a group of people. I'm not comfortable with that scene at all. I'm comfortable with a more quiet engagement. I can continue to do the clubs, meet people and do the whole underground scene, though I think it is going to take some more trial and error before I find where I belong. That's probably just what life is, a game of trial and error. And when you don't come up with an error, maybe that is when you are happiest and successful. Meh. I hate people. I don't like meeting new people, I don't like talking to them, etc. I knew I would end up dating a friend because I can't talk to randoms. Guess what, my fiance is the same way. We had mutual friends, we knew each other for years, but I didn't make a move. When we were both ready, it just happened. So, yeah, I just wanted you to know that you aren't alone. And you can and will find someone even if you aren't the out going person you think you should be. Also, if people make you jealous by telling you they always get laid, just remember: herpes. I don't have game, but I also don't have warts. Oh, and you shouldn't feel like you have fess up to whether your plans worked out. If I were you, I'd stop posting here. It's tough to be confident when people are always analyzing you.
  3. QUOTE (The Beast @ Mar 6, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) What is the opinion of how to date? If something is meant to happen, it will? When? I'm almost out of college and though I feel less socially retarded, I still have a lot of catching up to do with my peers. Do people really meet others to date on the job or online? Or...what were you getting at? You will meet the right person when you are comfortable and confident with yourself. I know that sounds like vague Oprah s***, but it's not a joke. I couldn't get a date in college with a girl I wanted to be with to save my life. Eventually I stopped caring about what girls thought or what friends thought and did what I wanted and felt was right. The biggest changes were in my appearance, and confidence in my intelligence, and figuring out a direction for my life. That doesn't mean I dressed like everyone else, it meant that I dressed how I felt comfortable. For example, I joined a fraternity which my friends in high school and my family made fun of me for. But I didn't care what they thought anymore. I wanted it. And I became president of the chapter, which gave me confidence. My grades went up when I decided to go into law and focus on it. I was happier. Sure enough, I had the confidence to ask out a girl I was friends with but had a crush on. We are getting married this year. That doesn't mean you have to do what I did by any means. But you have to do what feel comfortable with. If you just want to date, then date and deal with the ups and downs. But something tells me you'd be better served figuring out your direction in life and focusing on yourself.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) I recently watched Inherit The Wind. I'm really getting into these older movies, and I'd have to say that Spencer Tracy is my favorite non-current actor. Try Humphrey Bogart.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) Holy crap Greg Walker is insane. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4628458.story Infield singles? Just as fun as instant runs. They are just as fun. They won't bring wins, but they will have plenty of fun.
  6. I have a feeling you won't be proud. This is an attempt at making a characature out of south siders. Whoever they pick will likely be an embarrasment.
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Awesome. thanks. So basically 4WD>AWD>2WD. Here is what Edmonds has to say about the Santa Fe AWD: "All Santa Fe models are offered with either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive powertrains. The electronically controlled AWD system automatically routes power to the wheels with the best traction. For improved performance in slippery or off-road conditions, a driver-selectable AWD lock provides a fixed 50/50 torque split between the front and rear wheels." That's the best possible scenario. In bad conditions you can lock in AWD and not worry about hitting an ice patch.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what the difference between AWD and 4WD is? I bought a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe last with AWD last night and I am curious how it compares to a 4WD car. Sqwert's link is the best explanation of the technical differences. I don't know what kind of AWD the Santa Fe has so I'll give you my take from experience: I've had a Pathfinder with 4WD, driven a Lexus RX with AWD, and a CR-V with automatic AWD. Brass tacks, in the snow, the 4WD is king followed by full time AWD and automatic AWD. Don't even think of off-roading an auto-AWD. That said, most people don't off-road. The CR-V handles very well in moderate snow. In a bad storm, I would take full time AWD. However, auto-AWD is a nice combination that offers the fuel efficiency of 2WD and the safety of AWD. But nothing is like throwing a Pathfinder into 4WD and and just plowing through a snow pile.
  9. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Rosenbloom had an interesting stat this morning on Mully and Hanley though.... there has only been 1 goalie who was traded in the season that has gone on to win the Cup....that of course was Patrick Roy. There have been 3 rookies to do it. I have more confidence in Niemi than I do Huet but I don't think either is ready for the big time. I can't imagine that many teams that are true Cup contenders need a goalie during midseason.
  10. QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) The girl and Guy A are from the same hometown and have lived with each other the past two years in two different houses. No romantic interest, but they've been friends for awhile. Guy B was a friend of Guy A in the dorms, and since we're at college, became the friend of the rest of us. I was friends with the girl before moving in, but wasn't particularly close. Interest sparked up last month on a roadtrip we all took, and continued and evolved into a serious relationship last weekend after some chats. Now we just don't know how to bring up the topic to the other guys Unless one of them secretly likes the girl, there isn't really a problem. The only issue I can see being a problem is what happens if you break up. If I'm one of the roommates, I don't want to get stuck paying extra rent if one of you moves out.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Can someone compare that amount to an amount I might comprehend? Like the size of some other body of water on Earth? Its about 3,172,124,604 bathtubs full.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2010/03..._shutup_al.html The radio station that has him as a baseball expert is one talking about it.
  13. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) After reading some stuff on the ideas being floated on MLB realignment, I wondered what everyone here on ST thinks. What would be your ideas in realigning the teams? Have fun with it. My plan would take three years to implement. For the first year, the Twins are moved to the AL West, and the Brewers are moved to the AL Central. Now each league has 30 teams. For the second year, the Rays are moved from Tampa to another city (in my future it's Las Vegas). They move to the AL West. The third year is the radical realignment. Both leagues adopt the DH since several teams would be switching leagues. In the end, it looks like this: AL North - Twins, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Tigers, Mariners AL Atlantic - Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Orioles, Nationals AL Pacific - Padres, Giants, A's, Dodgers, Angels NL Central - Pirates, Cardinals, Royals, Las Vegas (Rays), Rockies NL South - Astros, Rangers, D-Backs, Braves, Marlins NL Great Lakes - White Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Indians, Reds So the teams in the AL Pacific would never leave California while Seattle and Boston would constantly have 5 hour flights?
  14. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 01:45 AM) I haven't yet had the Sam Noble Pils. I'm optimistic that it is more balanced than their Imperial Pilsner which is just totally too high octane for the style and an object lesson that more is not always better. The Noble Pils has looked interesting (the promise of five types of hops always catches the eye), and I keep flirting with picking it up but then end up getting something else instead. It has started to show up on draught though, so I'll probably give it a spin that way before picking up a 6-pack. Their imperial series is a mess in general. I haven't had any of it since the initial release. But this is a session beer. It's actually the spring seasonal which I guess means they pulled that dreadful white ale. From what I've read on Ratebeer, SA pumped up the hops from the time it was first available for sampling to the time of release. It probably won't be hoppy enough for your tastes, but I happen to like it. At the very least, it isn't anything you'll hate.
  15. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Your Age / 2 = X X + 7 = Y Y = If the girl is suitable to date. Also works vice versa. Basically if the person you're dating is less than Y in terms of age, then it's going to be awkward, not work out and not worth it because you will have too few things in common. If you're the younger person and your age is less than y, you guys shouldn't date still. Why 7?
  16. QUOTE (spiderman @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) Who are you referring to, and is this something the White Sox have been linked to? I'll guess Berkman, but he's a bit expensive: 6 years/$85M (2005-10), plus 2011 club option signed extension with Houston 3/05, replacing 1 year/$10.5M contract for 2005 signed 1/05, avoiding arbitration ($11M-$10M) 05:$10.5M, 06-10:$14.5M annually, 11:$15M club option ($2M buyout) full no-trade clause award bonuses: $0.5M for MVP ($0.35M for 2nd place, $0.25M for 3rd); $50,000 each for WS MVP, LCS MVP; $25,000 each for Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, All Star selection Berkman to donate $100,000 annually to club charity
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) I dont understand why people give Cowley the time of day. His claim to fame is insulting Toronto and not standing up for the Canadian national anthem. Or maybe his claim to fame is that he was suspended from voting on the hall of fame, because he was an embarrassment. As long as he is affiliated with Sun-Times, I wont read their publication. If enough people stop reading the Sun-Times, we wont have to hear from Cowley again. Amen. It's unfortunate that we have to go through the same thing we went through with Mariotti. I don't care what he says because I ignore him and their paper. It's not that hard. It's not like he brings anything informative to the table.
  18. QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) I'm not sure I am even understanding this--wouldn't the bank not make money but rather just recoup their losses? Although this person sounds so mind numbingly stupid that I probably shouldn't even try to understand this. He obviously didn't understand how foreclosure works. This isn't uncommon. People frequently damage the interior of the house or steal copper pipes and fixtures or whatever to make some statement to the bank (according to my commercial transactions professor).
  19. That sounds like a hell of a good time. Love me some Belgians. Speaking of which. A friend's bday was yesterday and we went to the biergarten. They have Aventinus on tap so of course that was my beverage of choice. No one else had ever heard of it. By the end, I got 2 people to love it, and everyone else proved that they are bud light drinkers. Oh well. Can't win them all. Meanwhile, my fiance's brother was out here a couple of weeks ago, and isn't much into quality beers since he is in college. I grabbed a Sam Adams brewmasters 12 pack. He took strongly to the scotch ale and didn't care for the noble pils. A man after my own heart. Big malty beers, and no hops. So I went out and grabbed an Oscar Blues Old Chub and a rauchbier, since I figured he's probably never drink one again. Guess which one he liked more? The rauchbier! I told him it tasted like sausage and onions and smokey-ness, but he couldn't believe it when it actually did. So, even though I've had to severely cut back my quality beverage drinking, I've accomplished something in the last month.
  20. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) 20/2 = 10 10 + 7 = 17 17 > 16. That mean's she's a no go. Maybe in a year or two Crypt. What is this?
  21. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:27 AM) Okay I have this problem: I am 20 years old, I play alot of basketball - Other day I met this girl playing basketball (she is only 16, but she was cool/pretty). First time meeting her for an hour, next 2 days we are talking like crazy, and she is kinda.... Advancing to say the least. We barely know each other and shes wanting to make out / kiss etc. For one do you think that age difference is to much? Kinda whack. For 2 what would you do? And for 3 is there something wrong with my head that im even remotely possible to liking some1 this young at my age?? Kinda whack? It's illegal to have any sexual contact with her in most states. You know there is something wrong with a relationship when you have to check the statutes. You need to hang out with people your own age...er at least 18.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) Am I the only person alive that enjoyed Crash? I thought it was good. The acting was abysmal, though. Saw District 9 yesterday. Really good movie. I'm excited for a sequel.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) How young is too young if you were a 30 year old dude eyeing up a younger girl? Has to be out of college.
