  1. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) This sucks. The pregame is blacked out on DIRECTV even though I have MLBEI and Sports pack. I believe pre-game and post are owned by the station, not MLB. So having EI doesn't help with that.
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) http://www.royalsreview.com/2010/4/3/14032...-anderson-doing Agreed.
  3. In case the lineup wasn't posted: Pierre 7 Beckham 4 Quentin 9 Konerko 3 Kotsay dh Rios 8 Pierzynski 2 Teahen 5 Ramirez 6.
  4. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Well the Nathan injury is huge, no doubt, having a proven 9th inning guy makes a team much better, but the rest of the pen, the 6th,7th,8th inning, LOOGY guys are all the same, minus Rauch who is now the closer. I am just saying the bullpen is still solid and Rauch could put up 40 saves and not miss a beat. Closers are so volitile, I mean look at Aardsma, who would have thought he had it in him to close at the level he did last year. Rauch could do it too. I think their bullpen is fine. If the Sox had Rauch as the closer, would you be saying that?
  5. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Well their closer, yes, but the bullpen outside of Nathan is about the same as it typically is for them. I am not a huge believer that a great bullpen makes a team great. You need good SP first for your bullpen to be worth a damn. If you took the best bullpen and put them with the Pirates lets say, it wouldn't make them all that much better. The injury to Nathan is sort of a huge deal, and I don't think that rotation is particularly good. I'm predicting that the rotation isn't good enough to go deep throughout the year which exposes that pen. Frankly, it's opening day. I never make prediction about seasons, and certainly not this bold. But I'm putting the balls out there on this one, and I think I'm right.
  6. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) I thought their pitching was "meh" the past 2 seasons and have made it to game 163 in consecutive seasons. I agree that their pitching isn't that great but I put nothing past that team. But their pen has always been better than this.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) What do I have to lose? I don't have any real strong connections to the Dakotas (I love living here, but it's going to be hard to do great things while living here), and I get the opportunity to explore and experience a big city. I might love it, I might hate it, but I know I'm going to hate myself 20 years down the line if the opportunity arises and I don't take it. I want to live a little and earn my independence, and I'm not going to do that living in South or North Dakota where I can just feed off of my parents if I really wanted to until I got something I can count on. I'm, in essence, throwing myself to the wolves. If I live, I'll be a better and stronger person because of it. And if I end up happily married in the process, more kudos to me. Maybe my mind is cloudy. Right now, I don't care; what I'm doing feels right. She feels like the one. Only time will tell. There's nothing wrong with taking a chance. Everyone in my family wondered why I would go to New York, then really wondered why my then girlfriend now fiance would follow me. Now they are all jealous of all the places we've been and experiences we've had. And let's face it, you can never be more than a plane trip home.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 06:00 AM) Quite a few people predicting the White Sox to win the division...despite the superstar "co-presence/s" of Mauer and Morneau. At ESPN, it was actually 16 votes for the Twins for first place, 13 for the White Sox and a measly 5 for the the Tigers. None for the Indians and Royals. Here in China, the opening game will start at 3 am Tuesday morning, but I'll still be listening on GameDay Audio. I'm gonna say it: the Sox are going to win this division walking away. I think there are people who had a pre-conceived notion that the Twins were going to win without looking at that pitching staff. Sorry, but that staff is "meh" to garbage.
  9. A lot of thought went into this game thread. The baseball lizard is happy.
  10. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) Most of the advanced stats have nothing to do with fantasy baseball, other than helping to indicate which seasons might be outliers. Really, though, you seem to be making a great argument here for advanced stats. I think that's his point.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) Hah..doh! It didn't even occur to me that that would be a joke. Not that I wanted one, but honestly, are there not dumber products put out every day? Good one though, I admit I thought it was totally real. This might please you.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) One thing about industries where unpaid internships are common...the necessity of working one or more of those sort of internships serves as a barrier to entry in that industry for anyone who can't afford to go without pay for a period of months. In other words...take the news media for example...if you're a young, go-getting kid from a poor family, you could have all the skill in the world, but you're soaking in student loan debt, trying to pay for housing, you've got no health care until 2014, and you wind up working at some grocery store just to make end's meat while the legacy person who's dad owns a car dealership gets a job just because he can afford to take the internship for a few months without pay. It's a great way to keep those dirty minorities out of the news business. I clerked at a law firm for money and didn't get hired full time because someone else's daddy knew the managing partner. That someone else never worked a job without pay. And in the legal world, my story is not uncommon from my class. I think the real problem isn't the internships themselves, it's the expectations from the employer. Like I said, I work on my time and I could get a paid part time job as well. That's the way it should be. Unfortunately there are places that treat these people like real employees, which isn't really fair.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) I completely agree with this. I have worked in only one internship for pay (at Pro Football Weekly) and the rest have been unpaid. My employers were literally getting away with murder for the amount of work I was doing and not having to pay anything, not even minimum wage. I couldn't agree more with making unpaid internships illegal. Opinions? More in the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/03/business...wanted=1&hp Bad idea. I am working for free right now just to keep myself relevant and build skills while I'm getting another degree. In this economy, people would fall out of relevance quickly if they couldn't at least get in somewhere for networking etc. However, at every unpaid internship I've have my bosses have let me work on my time and they aren't demanding. Some places aren't so kind.

    QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) I remember years ago I had a huge crush on Estella Warren. Made a couple of movies than disappeared. Saw her on some movie on Cinemax late last night. Still hot and now enhanced, which she didnt need. Some soft core movie with Billy Zane. Remember when he was in Titanic and his career was suppose to take off? P.S. I was just flipping through the channels and saw the movie. I wasn't, um, looking for Skinemax or anything...just so you know. You're a perv. What movie was that?
  15. G&T

    I confess to you . . .

    I started to like that Chelsea Lately show. My fiance watches it but I prefer pretending that I don't like it. So when it comes on I have to say "ugh, well I guess your show is on..."
  16. If anyone complains about Versus broadcasts, try watching a Devils cast.
  17. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) I got both off! Well you are just a jerk.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) I'm gonna start posting bizzare s***, and you all have to love me for it. Deal? Thank you.
  19. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) god I loved that movie. Probably one of my top five favorites when I was a young lady. What a strange thing to say...
  20. Not off today but I am on Monday. We will see who's jealous then.
  21. I thought it was real too until I googled it and a CNN article came up about April Fool's hoaxes. Actually, I kinda thought it was a good idea.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) It's actually real... ThinkGeek You are going to be happy when tomorrow comes. link
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 04:24 AM) Am I going to lose respect among the great White Sox fans of this message board if I date a Cubs fan? When she realizes that you aren't as fun when the Sox lose she will start rooting for the Sox to win.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) lost? I haven't heard or seen that anywhere. He just isn't ready yet, as far as I know. Sorry, couldn't find the blurb so I guessed. Here is the quote: Rogers
