QUOTE (CryptviLL @ May 22, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) ??? Caul's right. What's funny is that I had written a post exactly like Caulfield's and knowing the reaction I would get I just deleted it.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 21, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) "My client did not kill that man..." "Sorry dude, I tried. Enjoy the 30 years behind bars" QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Even worse... "He totally killed that guy!" It's more like "I recommend expensive litigation!" ::1 month later:: "Well that didn't work." -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 21, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) Oh I know. he's been god. It;s just ironic that moments after the post they score a goal. Not that it was Nieme's fault. You may not know this about me, but everything I say will result in the opposite happening. Which is why I am convinced that the Hawks will lose. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 21, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) until just now Oh God. Niemi has been great. 39 saves despite a pile of stupid penalties. He is the reason this team has a game. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) The sport is a little too complex for a simple guy like that too grasp. I can't say that I am surprised. That mistake in that sentence makes me laugh. -
QUOTE (knightni @ May 20, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) It's a likeness. Nike had to get permission to use the Jordan logo. Of course, Jordan was not a member of NBAPA. https://wiki-land.wikispaces.com/file/view/...jordan_logo.jpg That's a trademarked image, not merely a silhouette. It is identifiable to Jordan and is used in commerce. A random silhouette does not have the same protection. They really aren't comparable. The problem is that if it is recognizable as Lebron, then you can't use it, especially if it's on a billboard.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 20, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) Next question. If I took a picture of LeBron, and turned it into a silhouette, and then changed the jersey in the image to just straight red with a #6... is that passable? I feel like that would fall under "altering the picture in such a way that it is unrecognizable". Can you recognize that it's Lebron?

Getty's website has various licenses for pictures. You have to know the type of license you have.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 17, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Do any of your dogs get hot spots? Pete used to get them a lot, one time really bad. I give him fish oil pills in the summer now and they've really helped. We have a major problem with that with my dog back home. Got so bad once that he ripped the skin off his neck. Had to go to the emergency room. How that healed I have no clue, but he was fine. Since then, we give him benadryl. That helps.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) My god that was awful. I felt like I was watching some freshman film major's first project at school. It was one of the worst movies I have every seen. Those might be the most annoying people I have ever watched on film.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) Queued up Paper Heart for tonight. Bad. But that's my opinion.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Sherlock Holmes was pretty good, but it felt like they used the entire movie to announce a sequel. That's sort of how the books were.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Turning back the other way, what if the classes were anti-minority in focus, such as a KKK class on black history? It would not be permitted either.
-
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ May 14, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) 3 Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group. What does this mean exactly? Is Hispanic history only for Hispanics? Is black history only for blacks? Isn't this purely subjective? Great point. At UIC, I took African American History since 1865. I'm not African American and neither was the teacher. Is it wrong to divide history up to teach it? You could divide it by time period, gender, race, religion, location (co/state). What about literature. Is a Women's lit class wrong? What about a Hispanic Lit class? Please read my post. There is nothing inherently wrong with teaching history of a particular ethnic group as long as it is open to everyone. So your class would not be covered.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 13, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) Prohibits a school district or charter school from including in its program of instruction any courses or classes that: 1 Promote the overthrow of the United States government. Ok, sounds reasonable, no argument from me, in fact I wasn't even aware people really needed to be told not to do this 2 Promote resentment toward a race or class of people. Ok I guess, seen purely at face value, that's reasonable too, but sometimes when you look at history accurately, it's not pretty, and an argument can be made that teaching this could lead to resentment of a "race or class of people" (i.e., "I hate whitey because he snatched this land from my ancestors" or something like that) 3 Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group. What does this mean exactly? Is Hispanic history only for Hispanics? Is black history only for blacks? Isn't this purely subjective? 4 Advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals. Again, this means pretty much nothing and amounts to political grandstanding. I agree that history class is for learning history and not for teaching "pride" (incidentally, I wrote this on my Facebook status earlier today: "Pride is not a virtue, usually it's just a weak, and sometimes transparent, way of concealing a lack of legitimate reasons for justified self-worth") but we're not supposed to be teaching kids "how to be patriotic" in school either and we shouldn't be avoiding teaching facts just because they're inconvenient. The bills specifically states that it does not restrict the teaching of ethnic history as long as the class is open to all students. But this is interesting: More at link
