  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 08:45 AM) I saw these articles this morning, and I wonder if something is being lost in translation. It would be pretty strange to have someone refuse care, and then they'd be on advanced life support. Possible, but unlikely. In the EMS world, ambulance crews are divided into two categories - BLS (basic life support, EMT's) and ALS (Advanced life support, Paramedics). The patient may have been listed as ALS because she was transported by an ALS crew. That would NOT be the same as saying she was on life support, of any kind. Just a possible scenario for the mix-up here. This makes more sense. The initial story is ridiculous if she is already being sent home.
  2. Well the Rays are entitled to ask...and be denied.
  3. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) The unnecessary mental suffering the woman was put through from this mistake is undeniable, but if it was me in the grand scheme of things I'd sure rather find out that my kid wasn't dead after all, regardless of what sort of compensation a lawyer was able to get for me. But it appears that she's an anti-war protester, so I'm sure this is about publicity more than money.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 06:53 AM) But is it worth $100,000?? No, but that's the maximum the attorney has deemed she can receive.
  5. Suntimes Press conference tomorrow, actually.
  6. I got 10. I never heard of "Cap and trade."
  7. I'm pretty certin its consumer reports that gives you the invoice price for a car. It costs like $10 but can save you hundreds or thousands. Know that they are only looking to make a small percentage above that price. That's the only way to get a good deal.
  8. Can Urlacher be traded to get draft picks? Bears need picks.
  9. Chip Carey out as TBS lead broadcaster.
  10. That rum recipe looks awesome. I'm going to try it out when my fiance's mother comes out in a couple weeks. Nutmeg, brown sugar and cinnamon? Sign me up. However, I don't have a crock pot. Can I just throw the ingredients into a decent sized pot, covered, and put it in the oven?
  11. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) Sounds like a phenomenal brewery, thanks for sharing a grand experience. Keep you eyes peeled for their beers if you haven't had them. It's available all over the country, but the varieties are limited. We just got peche mortel here and that's all we get. But in Chicago you can get 3 or 4 styles.
  12. I just got back from Montreal. The highlight was the Dieu du Ciel brewery. My fiance and I went through 10 beers between us. Some of the highlights were: rosee d'hibiscous which was like a champagne and fruit cocktail; a rauchbock which was just a wonderful beer to end the night with (plenty of smoke, onions and sausage) Premiere Niege - a fantastic beer that became my fiance's favorite EVER. This was flavored with anise and it perfectly complemented the smoke and wheat flavors. It was light but incredibly complex. I wish I would have had a pen and paper when I drank it. They also had an alt, which I had, but it wasn't all that impressive. That is a world class brewery and I recommend that everyone try to make it there some day. It's French speaking, but our waitress (and almost everyone in Montreal) thankfully was a competent English speaker.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 08:48 AM) So you think it is more likely that the guy is reading us on the internet versus talking to someone in his old organization, or his new one, about things they are trying to do? As big of a fan as I am of what we do here, I still think the latter is the most likely. All he had to do was read a newspaper. It's not like he had to read Soxnet. If his only source is an organization, then I do not believe that he would let it slip to a random fan.
  14. Isn't it far too likely that Peavy read the Soxnet report like everyone else and mentioned it to this guy? If KW actually told him that they were going after AGon, why would he randomly tell someone he's never met? I don't doubt that the the Sox are going after AGon, but this doesn't justify the report.
  15. Cutler is REAL lucky he hasn't been picked 6 times.
  16. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) This trade makes no sense for both sides. Texas trades easily their best starter for a seriously overhyped pitcher in Eaton, a worthless prospect (who used steroids nonetheless) in Sledge and a reliever with a WHIP of 1.4. And the Padres get Young, another overhyped prospect (Gonzalez) and a very low level prospect. Even if the Pads flip Gonzalez for Wells, it still isn't a trade that will make the Pads better than the Dodgers. Awful trade for Texas, merely a bad one for San Diego. Awesome.
  17. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 07:18 AM) I remember years ago enjoying the Cranberry Lambic, but last year I couldn't drink it. To me there was a punch of something spoiled towards the end. Unless my taste had changed, I think it was a bad year for that brew. I'll try it again this year, as I always partake in the winter sampler (is there a mass market holiday beer better than Old Fezziwig?). I've always felt that fall and winter are the best times of the year for good beer. AB even puts out some decent brews in the Michelob sampler pack. And a few years ago, Miller put out the wonderful chocolate brew. It's really good stuff. I wish they sold 6ers of it. The Cranberry Lambic has been bad since the first time it was brewed. A complete mess. But this batch is not garbage. And in any event, there are plenty of good beers in the pack that are consistently good. Speaking of macros, I noticed that Michelob has a bourbon barrel aged something or other in stores now. I have no interest in trying it, but I was surprised to see them enter that market. I can't imagine swill drinkers wanting to try that.
  18. I feel that I should mention that Sam Adams Cranberry Lambic this season is far better than previous years. It actually has a hint of tart to it and the cranberry is far more robust. That said, it still isn't a great example of a lambic, but I actually enjoy it. This used to be a drain pour next to the cherry wheat (I've never poured out a beer. It still has alcohol).
  19. Mark Gonzalez is on the Score to talk about the rumor.
  20. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) Yep, Radler is the German equivalent of a British shandy, where it's usually ginger ale, ginger beer, or Italian (carbonated) lemonade they mix with. If cola rather than lemonade is used, the German drink is a Diesel. Lots of other variations that mostly all seem to be a waste of perfectly good beer. It's funny that places where Americans that associate with "good beer" are just as likely to drink crap as Americans.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 03:40 AM) It's actually pretty good. The trendy name for it is an "eclipse." Well it has to be better than mixing pilsner and coke. That's a German favorite apparently.
