I have this weird feeling that someone said "4 at 15" (as in each year) over the phone, and it was misheard as "4 at 50" (as in total).

QUOTE(whtsox13 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) A firend of mine said he heard it was 5 yrs/$85 mil. Is your friend Kenny Williams?

ESPN has something on their Insider page, but I can't get to it.

Nothing on the Trib site yet.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) Man, I hope this is true. If it is, it shows how much Mark wanted to stay here and how much he wants to win by not screwing up the payroll so much that they can't afford to get him some teammates. I just heard there is one more thing holding the contract up. The tarp sliding clause. He deserves to slide on the tarp. He has earned it. I'm sure the players union is pressuring him not to sign unless he can have fun during rain delays. KW and JR=Awesome if this happens too. Yep, It's time for a home white Buehrle jersey if this happens. "heard" where? I really doubt the tarp sliding issue would be anything relevant. That sounds like a joke to me.

Holy s***!!! 4/50??????????? That seems too good to believe. That would be beyond awesome.

While I hope they trade JC, I would be OK keeping Vaz around. So if they can't get a great return for him, I would like to see him stay.

Please please please.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) This is just a guess but sicne they had to take blood I'm guessing he refused to blow. That in itself make himself look guilty of something and probably a big factor in why they said adios. You know me and normally I would be up to no good being out at 3am also.. but these days.. when the mood strikes for a Klondike bar, one must go get a Klondike bar. DUI law is a tangled, weird mess, at least in the states I am familiar with (AZ is not among them). If you refuse a breath test, in some cases, you can then be arrested for refusing. The BAC test, though, I believe is also voluntary. So I kind of doubt he refused the breath test, but then volunteered for the BAC - that would be strange. Not impossible, but strange. Anyway, I agree with the Bears' decision. This was his chance, and he blew it.

Anyone think Buerhle more likely to re-sign?

So I happen to be in Boston this week on business, and I'm surrounded by Red Sox fans. Four of them have already asked me about MB - they are fairly drooling over the idea. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) And the face of your avatar for many months. Are you saying I need a new avatar? Maybe I should do what I did last year, and let the board pick one for me. -

NorthSideSox72 replied to beck72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everyone knows this org avoids long contracts (longer than 3 years). Everyone also knows there have been the occasional exceptions - Frank Thomas comes to mind. PK as well. In MB's case, I think he is in that same category - the Sox would consider making an exception for him. I think there is a 50-50 chance he re-signs, especially if other trades free up a lot of salary room. He has been in many ways the face of the organization for a lot of years. -
Health Care provided by government is not a right. I see no logical argument that can be made otherwise. However, health care is a matter of high priority, of national pride and of practicality. So clearly, it needs attention and money. And while I am usually in favor of private business over government buearacracy, in the case of healthcare, I actually think we need more government involvement. This is for one simple reason - providing healthcare, like providing police and fire protection, is incongruous to the aims of for-profit business. Their goals stand in direct opposition to one another in many ways. Therefore, any for-profit business in those areas by nature will result in lower quality product. The government needs to be involved, to at least the level where it incentivizes all involved to target actual quality output. I do not know how exactly to accomomplish that, but simply handing over healthcare to private insurance and providers clearly is not the answer - as evidenced by this country's lackluster system.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Barack Obama has come out with a list of all of the earmarks he has requested during this fiscal year, and has challenged the other candidates to do the same. Solid. Obama has seen the way earmarks are handled in the Chicago city council - as they should be. Open for all to see.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) obviously Hillary Clinton is the only solution. great post Balta Sir Genius- This is not a GOP-only forum. This is a GOP Candidate forum. For good, bad or otherwise. I see no reason why this sort of information shouldn't be posted here, where it belongs. If a DEM candidate or their staff steps in a big pile of it, feel free to post in the DEM candidate forum. In fact, please do that - the more info in here, the better. Sincerely- Mr. Northside

As with all forms of racism or bigotry, this sort of thing does nothing but harm to all involved. If you want to give everyone a fair shot at something then give EVERYONE the same shot at it. If its a job, go by qualifications. If there is evidence that people are missing qualifications because there is a closed door betweem them and it, then open that door. If we need more student loan availability, or better equality in school funding then do that. But for God sakes, can we please stop trying to get rid of racism by being racist?

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 07:14 AM) I'm curious if other people feel the same way as me (since this thread has already been hijacked). I usually go to help out at a soup kitchen or donate my money to the United Way instead of handing my money out to the homeless on the street. I just feel uncomfortable with that because I'm not sure of where that money will go. Anyone feel the same way, or do you have no qualms about giving a bit of money to someone on the street? Maybe I am overreacting. I never give people on the street money - I share your concerns. I give money to specific, reputable charities and organizations, and I donate my time occasionally.

Where did you get those team notes PDF's? Those are handy.

I've updated Lin's AAP thread - thanks for the info danman and 29th/Poplar. GP, about his velocity, see the AAP thread and the linked articles. He was supposed to be 90+, but in ST he was nowhere near that, so there were worries about it. And hey - Bobby Thigpen is managing Bristol. That's cool.
-
Po-Yu Lin is starting the season with Bristol (short season), and has his first outing on 6/22. His line: 6 IP, 0 R, 7 K, 0 BB, 4 hits, 1 balk Also, an article about the game (tip of the cap to 29th & Poplar). Sounds like he isn't afraid to pitch inside, nor was he rattled when he was in trouble. Overall, a pretty darn good start. Good to see this, considering he was a disappointment in ST velocity-wise. He is still quite young.

Nice to see something being done. *slow clap* Now let's see if it passes, and if they can continue to move in the right direction.
