OK, I'm sorry but this is bugging me and I have to ask. 1. Who is being "owned" in this picture? The pale guy walking next to the hottie? I'm missing something here. 2. Is someone in this picture supposed to be famous or something?

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) did i miss the edict or something? was this talked about elsewhere? i gotta admit, the lack of censorship was what brought me here in the first place.... You came here so you could swear on the internet? The censorship you refer to is limited to a few very specific things - expletives are one. Personal attacks on other posters or players, when they get out of hand, are another. But rest assured this is not WSI, and we aren't going to go banning threads because someone said "Cubs" or "attendance" or anythig like that. We just want people to show a little respect for each other.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) It is that or have Paulie strap on his old gear and get back there. That reminds me, I've meant to ask this question recently... Who is the #3 catcher on the team, in the event one is needed? That one day after Widge was released and they weren't sure if Alomar would make it in for the game, I was wondering who would play if AJ got hurt.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:07 AM) Either that or we need a line item veto to be passed... That, in my opinion, does too much to further the current wave in transfer of power to the executive. That branch has already grown too big for its britches.

Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy
NorthSideSox72 replied to BHAMBARONS's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) No he hasn't and looked like a complete fool on the press conference. He looked confused at times really doens't do much to set a side all of the panic here in Phoenix. Joe should stick to doing what sheriffs in most urban counties do - worry about the jails. Leave law enforcement to someone else. He doesn't seem to understand the basics of field work. -
Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy

Let's not confuse marijuana with narcotics. Saying mary jane and heroine have anything like the same effect on society is being blind to the facts. Marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol or tobacco - and in fact, probably less so. And I'll also say that keeping prisoners in 138 degree heat is probably a bit too far. But that and his clearly unconstitutional patrol practices aside, I do still like the way he runs his prisons. Oh, and, thanks everyone for keeping it RELATIVELY civil. Let's keep it there. No baiting, please. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) You who favor legalization of narcotics are a tiny minority and always will be. Nuke, everything I have read on any actual statistics refutes this. Plenty of people would be willing to see marijuana decriminalized. It hasn't happened yet because its a divisive issue that will cost money in the short run (though save a TON in the long run), and which makes any lawmaker supporting it look weak on crime. -
While I actually agree with both of these moves individually, I do agree that these railroad rider bills fly in the face of the intended purpose of legislation. I'll state again my support of something like a Truth in Legislation Act, requiring bills to stay on topic. You want 2 bills? Send 2 bills. This would prevent all sorts of the B.S. underhanded stuff that goes on, keep the budget under control (since the add-ons often cost money), and allow REAL transparency for the American people. This means that people who choose to monitor Congress can more easily know who they are really voting for.

Sig Request, First Ever - I need me some Gload!
NorthSideSox72 posted a topic in How Does That Work?
I would LOVE a Ross Gload sig, if anyone could help me out. Something cool. I don't care what all is in there. EDIT: OK, I'll add something to this. It would be awesome if the Sig could reference Gload being a charter member of the Baggy Pants Club (the new Group 4 - Mack, Ozuna, Cintron and Gload with their baggy uniforms). I'm not getting much a response here. I guess no one other than me likes Ross. -
7/28/2006 White Sox v. Orioles

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Maybe its a tacky example, but this almost reminds me of the fight scene during the big party in Dazed and Confused... The not-so-tough nerdy guy is mad about being verbally abused by one of the tough drunk guys, so he hatches this scheme to where he will take the first punch, and stall thinking that everyone else will jump in and break up the fight. Instead everyone wants to watch and the guy gets the crap beat out of him for a while, before the fight finally gets broke up. I don't know how Hezbollah thought they could run raids into Israel and kidnap their soldiers and not expect the nation that has a sixty year history of kicking the crap out of anyone who dares mess with them, and get off scott-free. I really believe they thought they were going to be able to draw Syria and Iran into a broader war, and now they have no idea what to do, and are just waiting for someone to break up the fight. Hezbollah really miscalculated things, because now they just gave Israel an open door to bomb their infrastruct back to the stoneage, and they are doing just that. Is it right, I would say not to the extent that it happened so far, but was it expected? Hell yes. The whole middle east knows you don't mess with Israel without expecting a big reaction in return. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Do you really think Hezbollah is "getting the crap beat out of them" The Israeli progress has been ungodly slow, Hezbollah has emerged as a much stronger anti-Israeli force than they were before, they've taken some casualties but also inflicted some, and made their head look like a hero to the entire middle east. They've inflamed the entire area against Israel and the U.S., and they've proven to everyone that they're quite a bit stronger than just a few years ago. Beyond that, they've made Israel's military might look less scary to everyone else, since Israel can bomb countries into the stone age but hasn't really hurt the group itself, Israel has nearly crushed the Lebanese government to the point that Hezbollah is basically the only force left to run that country, and they're about an inch away from having what remains of the Lebanese army openly joining with that group. I'm gonna have to go with Balta on this one. I don't think Hezbollah's aim was to win a war in any conventional sense, or even to try to gain some sort of moral high ground by being beat up a bit (as I think the fight scene analogy was getting at). I think they intended to do EXACTLY what they did and what has happened - chaos, Israel looks awful both militarily and politically, Lebanese government is in disarray, and the rest of the Middle East is that much more angry with Israel. As far as a broader war, I think this IS going to lead to that, but not right here and right now. All the major regional events of the last 5 years are leading the world into a major conflict there, in one form or another. This particular episode was just a small part of the chess game for Iran and the big kids on the block.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Well, one night while quite ill I did have a couple of room-service prostitutes drop by my hotel room and ask if I was interested. Oh wait, did you actually mean a fish? That's kinda funny. The Taimen. Isn't that what it was called? The 15 foot Salmon we discussed (that probably isn't actually 15 feet)?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Y'all can find a selection of my photos from China Here. And yes, I am one ugly dude, so get that out of the way. Where is my fish?

I just got off the phone with Sales at the Sox. They say that you were supposed to RSVP by the date specified, and that they then either mail you or leave at will call ACTUAL TICKETS. I just confirmed it. If you have no tickets, you will not be admitted. Boy, they managed to screw the pooch on this one, didn't they?

Chicago City Council Put Pox in Big Boxes
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) It will be interesting to see the legalistic interpretation of this specific statute. The famous Maryland law got thrown out, as I predicted, because it knowingly applied only to one company. This one actually affects about a half dozen different retailers, including groups like Target, Fields, and Sears. This was also the first time that I can remember the City Council manning up and stepping over what Sir Richard Daley the second decreed. They also managed to get a veto proof margin by two votes. So now the "Is Daley weakening?" questions have begun. Eh, I think something will be made of the weakening of Daley, but it will probably be short-lived. The city still loves the guy. And this city council seems more than willing to defy convention, and even existing law, when they see a crusade they can be attached to, on behalf of the "common man". I think previously, Daley happened to be at the head of many of those crusades. Not this one, though. -
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/custom/...ll=chi-news-hed Now, I am no fan of big box retailers. I think that often times, their net effect on the community is more negative than positive. So I shed few tears for them. But, this really annoys me. The city council did something that, to me, defies basic democratic and capitalist principles: they rasied the minimum wage on a specific segment of business alone. To put it simply, they stomped on the idea of equality and fair treatment of business. And then someone has the gall to say: "At the heart of this ordinance is equality and fairness," Chicago Federation of Labor President Dennis Gannon said in a statement. "Today's vote sends a message that our elected officials and community members alike are not interested in the creation of low-paying jobs that fail to provide a living wage or adequate health-care benefits for working families." To me, this is the same as the people who say that affirmative action is about equality. No, they are both by nature about INequality. And its a load of crap. But then, what should I expect from the same City Council that banned use of cell phones while driving but allowed the use of hands-free units, despite the fact that EVERY piece of research says one is no less dangerous than the other? And the same council who banned smoking not just in public spaces and restaurants, but bars and every kind of private business as well? You'd think we had voted in a parade of socialists.

Wow. We stink right now. Good thing we play a 162 game schedule. I really wish I could just walk away and ignore the Sox for a week or two, then come back to it. But I don't think I can do it.

Annan is terrible. When is his term up? Does he even have a set term? I knew this stuff at one point but have forgotten and am too lazy at the moment to look for it.

OK so, I'm typically a defender of the Ozzie patented Sunday Lineup . I think his resting of players and playing the bench is a key to the team's success. But here we have just plain poor decision-making. Anderson is red-hot and 3/5 vs Silva, and Gooch is 3/5. I mean, come on. Rest our guys and get the bench some time, but do it the smart way!!! Not this default lefty-righty crap.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) Mason-Dixon poll on the Tennessee race. Ford does have one advantage in that he's outraised all 3 of his potential GOP opponents combined, so he has the cash to make up some ground. And he will. I'll take a bet with anyone willing. Ford will win.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) I'll trade a few bombs for a well balanced, smart ball offensive attack that produces the 7 runs you're predicting. Mmmmmmm. Smart bombs....

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) How about a new rule for our manager. When you have a pitcher in a tie game after the start of the 7th inning. If he allows a batter, or more to the point 2 batters to get on, used one of the 3 guys who throw near a 100 to come in and get the out. I am sick and tired of seeing a pitcher give up a big late rally because he is a bit tired. Maybe we can get a managing pitching for dummies book for Guillen. I so wish we had a vet bench coach like Nosek on the pine sitting behind him, being a sounding board. How many times does Guillen have to let a pitcher get lit up late to learn this routine. If the pitcher gets in trouble, use one of the 3 100 mph arms out of your pen. Just a thought. But here is something to consider - Ozzie DOES have that experienced fellow on the pine next to him. His name is Don Cooper.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) Is it just me or did we have a HR in each of the last 2 games barely clear the fence with our backup OFs making lousy efforts to catch the ball? Ozuna last night and Gload on Monday. Catches over the fence can never be assumed, by Dye or Pods or anyone else. They are never automatic. The one to RF would have been out of reach of ANY outfielder, and the one last night Ozuna had would MAYBE have been caught by Pods or another outfielder (since it was right on the fence).
