QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) The ballys i went to, webster place, Clark, South Loop are all in pretty bad shape. Webster place is the best, but they dont even give you towels. PLus I never smelled anything worse than their locker rooms. Now I go to the LPAC in the west loop called WAC, and I could love it more. I think its worth the 60 a month to at least have a clean safe place to work out. Webster is pretty bad, yeah. But I can walk to it, so thats the one I use from home. The one downtown at Monroe and Franklin is awful. I've never been in the others. I heard a rumor they are closing the Franklin one anyway. LPAC might be appealing, since they have one west loop. For 60 a month thats not bad, for a good club.

I have Comcast, and WCIU cannot be in HD, because WCIU doesn't have an HD channel. Maybe they will eventually, but right now, its not there. So for us Comcast users, WCIU comes in standard only (and their standard is pretty low). The games on WGN and CSN are HD because they both have HD channels on Comcast.

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 10, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) The journalist leaked the information to the public, which makes him/her an accessory. While I also disagree with what Judith Miller did, at least she had some (perceived) patriotic motive behind her actions. However, the journalists who leaked Bonds' testimony only did so to impress their bosses and to increase the bottom line for their employers. That's it. "Disgusting" indeed. I don't believe there is such a thing, legally, as "accessory to leaking". If some government-related person gave the information to the reporter, and it didn't jeapordize anyone's safety, then I don't think they have to show any particular restraint. I agree with YAS, the intimidation of the press by the government is pretty scary and needs to stop. And HEY, you stole my avatar!!!! -
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) OK Truth is, it came from my wife. She said it during preseason when I was watching the games. I totally forgot about that until I sent here the picture and she was like I told you he looked like Mr Incredible in March. I was like oh yeah, but you know I don't listen to you so much when I'm watching the game.... Ha!!! Funny you should say that - I'm pretty sure my wife did the same thing, noticed before me in Spring Training. I guess we should be wondering why our wives are noticing these things...

I'd avoid Bally's. Their deal is, you do a contract for 2 or 3 years, at about $50 a month (give or take, depending on the deal you get, whether you want to use multiple clubs). Then after 3 years, you drop down to like $12 a month for life. Sounds good, right? Yeah, except all the Bally's I go to are in awful shape. Bad equipment (and not enough of it), locker rooms and showers are disgusting... I have heard really good things about the Lakeshore Athletic Club (downtown, LP, west loop), but they are PRICEY. There is a club above Union Station, don't know the name, that is supposed to be really good and relatively inexpensive.

Congratulations, Kap! She looks in the picture like she is smiling and trying to give someone a high five. Most excellent!

That's awful, Tex. My condolences, and my thoughts, are with you and the family. I just can't think of anything else to say.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 11, 2006 -> 05:36 AM) Below is a link to a fairly long article. I found it a very interesting read. I'm also dead serious regarding the thread title. I was quite impressed by what I read. The resurrection of .... I think Gore was, at least in part, doomed by his own campaign strategists. Jokes aside, he had loosened up a bit as VP and become a likeable guy, but then he suddenly stiffened up again during the campaign. It looked to me like they had a different strategy for him every week. I have no doubt that Gore is a solid human being. I think he has a lot of really good ideas, and surprisingly, the charisma to get them moving. He is also very intelligent and has many views I agree with (particularly the environmental ones as focused on in the article). But ultimately, I think he lacks the complete package to be a good President. In hindsight, he would probably have been better than Bush. But I think he tends to get a little flinchy and rash when the s**t hits the fan, and thats not an ideal quality for the leader of the free world. Great article, though. Thanks.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 10, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) A guy posted the Mr. Incredible/Thome thing on WSI a few weeks ago. He said he got it from his little son. Actually, I thought it was here first. The one on WSI (from Hangar) started about a week ago. The one here is from April. If that matters. But the cool pic in my avatar I did get from WSI a few days ago, from a poster named Unregistered. Quite cool, I thought.

http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49424 I started this thread a while back. And honestly, I am sure others noticed the same thing quite a while ago too. Roeper is just a little behind the times.

Arizona proposing illegal immigrant crackdown.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 9, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) I don't think that's #1 to a lot of people. I actually believe that if we put up a wall or use technology or whatever to STOP the flow of illegals and are assured we won't have this issue come up again in 10 years, then the American public will comprimise on amnesty for those here now. But it seems it is also #1 for some people to be against a wall or securing the borders no matter what. I'm all for securing the borders, just not with a monstrosity of a wall. There are better ways. And if we reduce demand here, and employ a guest worker program and changes to visa levels, the problem will reduce (not go away) on its own. As for amnesty for illegals, I have a hard time stomaching that. They violated laws, and not small ones. They, like the companies who hired them, should be punished. I don't think rounding them all up is practical (or politically smart), but I have no problem with law enforcement sending them back as they happen across them. -
QUOTE(Elcaballo45 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) Officially though, all of the songs from the Pirates of the Caribean soundtrack is simply a modified version of the greatest soundtrack ever (for scores) "The Rock". I personally would buy that... Not exactly. Different composers, in fact. Pirates was written by Klaus Bedalt, who is Hans Zimmers' pupil (Zimmer did Rock, I think). The montage uses "He's a Pirate", but also bits of at least one other track from the Pirates soundtrack. Good CD. Now, what I REALLY want to know, that no one has been able to answer, is what was the music behind the World Series montage shown on Opening Night (and not shown again since the opening series)? Critic thought it was from Excalibur, but alas, that wasn't it.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) A fence would help. There is already a fence. And as for a wall, better to go the cheaper, less damaging, more effective route of technology and smart use of manpower. AND working towards lessening demand by penalizing businesses who hire them. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 7, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) A description of the most remote place in Iowa, about 50-60 miles NE of here....but it describes my part of the state....NE Iowa isn't like the rest of the state. Mainly just an interesting read. Heads- could I get a link for this, if you have it? I'd like to send this to some people who I'll be doing RAGBRAI with in 2007.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) I was being facetious. Glad to here that. I think I rely too much on looking for green when I read this board, instead of using my knowledge of the poster. Thats why I was a bit taken aback.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 5, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) I think so, I used to order that when I lived in LP. That and pats. Be advised, Pequod's (the one at Clybourn and Webster) is currently closed for renovations, opening back up sometime in the next month or so I think.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 5, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) And why do banks in Chicago ask me if I want to use Polish? Oh yeah, because there are Poles there - who despite knowing and using English feel more comfortable using their native tongue when making business transactions because they don't want to screw up their finances. I think its PNC Bank that gives you the choice of 6 languages to use. The newer Bank One / JP Morgan / Chase / whatevertheycallthemselves ATMs have a list of about a dozen possible languages.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) I had the same problem with lots of the answers to the questions. WAY to extreme for me. I agree it wasn't as deftly written as it could have been. For the ones I didn't like the answers, I answered neither/other. What IS handy is the chart you can go to by clicking the "information" link, showing each candidates stance on issues in a more dynamic way. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 5, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) Even though Jim Thome is a major candidate for Most Valuable Hitter in the American League thus far, he is still a .280 hitter. It's all about getting one run at a time. These HRs are nice, but if your leadoff man reaches base with no outs, you sacrifice that #2 hitter to get him into scoring position. And while Scotty Pods sucks hard at baseball, it's still a dumb philosophy to just sit around and wait for a HR. Yup. Gotta use both - small ball and long ball. I really don't get why people seem so focused on one or the other, as if it were the magic bullet. If we live off the 3 run HR, like we did 2001-2004, we won't be nearly as successful. Same if we have no power and just try to scrap all the time. But with both, we have a really strong offense.
