I'll be selling my unused season tickets again this year, for face value or less, to whomever wants them! Seats are in a great spot: Sec 536 (above home plate, 3B side) Row 1 (that's right - front row!) 4 seats together on aisle Season tickets, so you get Lower Deck access along with Upper Deck I don't yet have my list of available games, but our ticket draft is Thursday, March 12th, so.. IF YOU HAVE PREFERENCES, and you ask now, I might be able to grab specific games or game-types for you. No guarantees though. I'll post the actual list here when I have it. I am downtown weekdays and north suburbs evenings and weekends, if you want to meet to get the tickets that way. Or I can mail them. Cash, check OK for payment. I can email tickets too, though if you use the electronic tickets instead of the hard ones, you won't get LD access.

ST: 3/6 Game Thread, SOX @ SD, 2:05pm CT

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) For those of you on twitter follow FutureSox. Who ever is running that is giving updates and is at the game Jason Gage, Chisoxfn. Owner of SoxTalk, one of the original writers on FutureSox. He also had virtually never used Twitter before yesterday and hasn't written for FS in about 8 years. -
Not watching the game, but just saw the score... SIU still within 8 points with 9 minutes left. Considering the teams involved, SIU has to feel pretty good about even being in the mix that way.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) It didn't matter who was elected last, coming after Rich Daley they were going ot look bad. Dude was teflon. No one questioned him, no one went after him. So all of those things that had been kept under wraps for the past 25 years were now allowed to leak out. There is still a lot of years of cleaning up after Daley still to come. Yup. And I know this may not be a popular opinion back here, but overall I've more liked than disliked Emmanuel's initiatives. I think he's taking the right tack on a lot of the garbage he had to deal with.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) I think you are assuming that people aren't asking, which is incorrect, they ask in every interview with him. He just says he's evaluating. Blago loved doing that. When he felt like he wanted something done as the Gov, it always went like this: 1. Blago schedules press conference, announces FREE STUFF 2. Blago goes to Madigan and Cross who ask "where does the money come from?" 3. Blago says don't care, find it 4. Madigan/Cross says, OK, tax increase? Cut something else? 5. Blago says Hell No 6. Madigan/Cross sit on their hands 7. Blago schedules second press conference to either --a. Do an executive action if he's able to force something in --b. If he can't, just point at the House and say "Evil Assembly WON'T GIVE FREE STUFF"

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) What i find strange is no mention of job losses in the energy sector....Those jobs have been getting hammered the last two months and that is not represented in the data.. That's more granular than they typically get in terms of sectors, isn't it? I can't see a political motivation not to mention it. It's happening due to the drops in oil prices, which is something the party of the President and the executive should want to highlight.

3/5 ST: White Sox vs Dodgers 2pm MLB Network
NorthSideSox72 replied to GGajewski18's topic in 2015 Season in Review
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) Hawkins will certainly test Hawks theory that you can make a career as just a great mistake pitch hitter. He definitely hits mistakes, but I've seen him hit good stuff before, especially on the outer half. For him the keys were mechanical issues (which he seems to be ironing out nicely), and pitch recognition (which we'll need more reps to know for sure). -

Hearing Hawkins hit a 430 foot bomb to center was nice, but I didn't think a ton about it. But I just watched a video of the swing (White Sox tweeted it, just a short one), and I am very happy. If you see the video, notice two things. One, there is almost no bat load there at all, just a very minimal flick there. And the other thing is, he doesn't fly open as dramatically, even with a pitch on the relative inner half. If you've been watching him, this is a very exciting development. Now yeah, the pitch was a hanger. But, by the way, it was a hanging breaking ball, which he recognized and pounded. I'm looking forward to doing the re-visit article in April or May, like I did the last couple years. -
Congratulations! Agree on pictures, also to add, you can never spend too much time holding/snuggling that baby.

Regular season ends Saturday, seeding still very up in the air after Kansas. Tourney starts with play-in games for seeds 7-10 on Wednesday, March 11th, then the broader bracket Thursday. Championship on Saturday the 14th.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:35 AM) The reloading of tabs occurs if the device is out of memory (not storage), but actual RAM. Because Apple cuts corners on only putting 1GB of memory in their phones (2GB exists in the iPad air2), whether it be for their battery power excuse or not, that's why browsers often reload tabs. The entire OS and every background task on iOS devices is running off of 1GB of memory...which while impressive...it's past time they up it to 2gb. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) Yeah, I don't know why they insist on doing that. Excellent memory management doesn't mean you intentionally put insufficient hardware in the device. Whatever the reasoning is, it causes people's bills to be higher, not to mention wastes time. And I'm sure they know this. Which means they COULD choose to manage apps differently and/or memory differently, but don't. So, yeah, rip off.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) Sunburn coming in according to twitter Sanburn? Or did Gage Gage it?
-
I'll say this - I cannot recommend Jenn-Air. We're on our second, and this one is having issues (fortunately Abt has been really good about handling with no charge). We have an unusual slide-in island arrangement for the oven/stovetop, with a down-draft vent system. Our only choices were Jenn Air, or a super-high-end brand like Viking or I think Bosch. The latter were twice as much money.

Prospect Perspective; Adam Engel on Aussie Ball

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) what a great article. if anyone can ask, how is the sport starting to take in the aussie league. are more fans picking up the game. and lastly, i am sorry, but are the aussies liking baseball better than cricket? bolded... if you read the article, he tells you flat out that cricket is far and away the dominant bat game. -
None other than Jason Gage, our fearless leader, is there live and is taking over the FutureSox twitter account the next couple days. So if you are on twitter, keep an eye on that. He's planning to hit the games, as well as the back field minors stuff.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) I would like to see an interview with Brooks Boyer. And I would like you to ask him if I could get a refund for the money I spent on two years' worth of season tickets to watch him play s***ty basketball on a s***ty team. LOL, OK. I have spoken with Brooks, and we have actually been on blogger calls with him in 2012. -
It's that time again. Oh yes. *clears throat* GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 1, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) ahhh what could've been.... here was the 14th pick of the sox in the 2014 draft. the sox couldn't sign him but hoped, if Rodon didn't sign, maybe, just maybe they would sign him. players to watch for article. Bryce Montes de Oca, RHP, Missouri At 6’-8” and 265 pounds, the right-hander is quite the intimidating force on the mound, especially when he can run his fastball up to 98 mph. His curveball shows above-average, an 11-5 offering with tight spin. His change-up is still developing but shows promise, and he has worked hard on his mechanics since having Tommy John surgery after his sophomore season. He may have the most upside as anyone on this list and should be a big name in 2017. beside Tucker and the pitchers i mention early. i am like this catcher more and more. J.J. Schwarz, C, Florida Schwarz led U18 Team USA with a .429 average, as well as nine RBI. He is more offense than defense and the 6’-1”, 195 pound right-hander has raw power and an advanced approach. The bloodlines are there too, as his dad is Jeff Schwarz, a former MLB pitcher and current minor league pitching coach for the Marlins. J.J. has good actions behind the plate and should be able to stick, and he has a great understanding of the game. He should be a leader for the Gators for the next three years and hit in the middle of the lineup. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 1, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) Phil Bickford, RHP, Southern Nevada (JUCO) Bickford continues to put up silly numbers for the Coyotes as he struck out 13 over five shutout innings against Southern Idaho on February 19. He was hitting the mid-90s with his fastball and continues to show his plus command of his stuff. He now has 40 K/6 BB over 20.1 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits. The 6’-3” right-hander is a likely first-round pick, and the continued development of his secondary stuff, as well as consistently maintaining the velocity, will determine just how high he will go. Ian Happ, OF, Cincinnati Happ’s calling card is his ability to hit a baseball. So far this season, he has done that pretty, pretty good. He went 10-for-14 over the weekend against Santa Clara and is now 17-for-30 (.567) on the season with four doubles, two home runs and three walks through seven games. The 6’-0”, 205 pound right-hander might be the best college hitter in the 2015 MLB draft and could benefit from a lack of premium bats this year. from an aritcle of the top 10 college players week 2 LDF - You need to cite quoted pieces. Link to the article would suffice, since you are just taking exerpts. But you need to source it in some way.

Thompson's HR was opposite field too. I don't usually like to use the phrase, but it fits for him - this year is make or break. He needs to succeed, and get to and handle AAA.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) Zach Phillips, and the rest of the NRIs. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/roster_nri.jsp?c_id=cws Now I remember, thanks!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) What do we know about (pitchers) Savery, Leon, Phillips and Fernandez? Joe Savery and Arcenio Leon were both offseason pickups. Savery might be the 3rd or 4th pen lefty on the depth chart, Leon is just AAA filler. Fernandez is probably Raul, he's not going to see the majors this year. He's on the 40 and has intriguing stuff, picked up off waivers a year ago. But he's more likely in AA. Philips, I must confess, I don't know who that is referring to. I don't see any Phillips on B-R listed with White Sox, so color me confused.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 09:35 AM) Baltimore and St. Louis are pretty awful cities too. Baltimore's inner harbor area is nice, lots to do. But once you get a few blocks out from there, it goes downhill very quickly in every direction. St Louis isn't bad, plenty of fun to fill a weekend at least. I'm personally of the mind that you can go to just about any decent sized town or city in the US, and if you look into it a bit, you can find at least a weekend's worth of fun stuff to do. You just might have to dig a little.

Our latest player guest writer is outfielder Adam Engel, who is a Top 25 prospect in the system. We asked Adam to write about what it was like going to Australia for baseball this past winter. Here is his article. The past two offseasons we've published posts written by players (Chris Bassitt, Scott Carroll, Mike Recchia, Kevan Smith, Adam Engel), a scout (Kevin Burrell) and a minor league radio/media guy (Brian Boesch). Who else would people like to see articles from? And discussing what topics?

No one on Smith I see. There was a twitter follower of the FS account who said he was "calling it" that Smith would win the backup job.
