  1. If someone said back in March, that this team would be in 1st and 2.5 games ahead of DET, and in a good WC position, on August 1st... what kind of responses would they have gotten?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:06 AM) I didn't see an AAP on him, but this is a great read on Mitch Mustain http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/usc/...4341,full.story No one's picked him up yet (HINT HINT).
  3. Mark Haddow wants everyone to know he's back from the DL... 3-for-5, HR, 2B, 2 RBI. OBP on the season is over .400. Sucks he got hurt when he did, that was right when some OF spots opened up, but Bill Rice passed him up.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) what part of "HE DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE WHITE SOX" doesnt make sense to you? Let me put it in SOG format Ryansterski doesnt want to play for fly snazzysox For the record, the only time he ever said that was in a joke. So regardless of what you may think of it, there was no real reason to believe it was true. He may or may not have been willing, we'll never know.
  5. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) Shirek is on a nice little roll for Charlotte. In 4 starts since the all star break, he has 20 K's and 1 BB (23 innings). Has a 5:1 K/BB on the season. 3.5:1 vs lefties. 7.5:1 vs righties. The big difference for him this year is that he's maintaining the strike outs, and core results, late into the season. He has run out of gas most years before this one, and did better in the bullpen. I've got his AAP thread, and I'm as surprised as anyone. I thought he had reliever written all over him. Charlie has always had good stuff, he was considered a high end draft pick at one point, until he spun out his Junior season at Nebraska, and the Sox picked him up low in the draft hoping to get him righted. He can hit mid-90's, has sink on his stuff, has plus control. But his secondary stuff was always a question, as was his stamina.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) They HAVE to move him though right? I mean Tex or NYY will give them something for him. It's bad enough they lost out on Delgado because of him. They will get compensation though if he walks though, yes? Not sure his status. If they offer him a high end deal (has to be top 150 in baseball, or top 100 or something), and he turns them down, the Cubs get picks.
  7. Cubs need guys to fill gaps this year and next, and prospects. I still think Floyd plus a pitching prospect to the Cubs for Dempster makes a lot of sense for both sides, if Demp is willing.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Septimo was added to Arizona's 40 man roster on 11/20/2008, so this should be his fourth season on a 40 man roster unless we took him off it at some point last year. Since he's also spent 20 days in the minors in each of these seasons, he should have burnt his third and final option at the end of last season. Now, there is a chance he meets the criteria for a fourth option, but that doesn't appear to be the case from what I can tell. Also, I'm not sure what happens with his option status since technically we resigned him this offseason as a minor league free agent. My guess is he out of options. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) It's simple: An option was used in '08, '09 and '11, using up his 3 options. To earn a 4th option year he'd have to have less than 5 years professional experience; he's been around since '05 so this does not apply. The Sox claimed him off waivers last season and outrighted him to AA, in the offseason he was signed to a minor league contract so they were able to outright him to the minors during spring training without having to put him on waivers. The Sox added him to the 40 man roster at the end of June and now that he's in the bigs and out of options he would have to clear waivers to be sent down. Why would AZ have put Septimo on their 40 man roster in 2008? He only had 3 years' minor league service time at that point, and was never in the majors, so there was no reason to do that. That just doesn't add up.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) Great foot speed, great bat speed, good defender. He could fetch something low level. Justin Greene isn't going to get anything in trade. He's filler, he wouldn't even be among the top 50 prospects in the Sox system most likely.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Saladino had big power last year in a hitters' park, but his 2010 power numbers are similar to Reed's right after he was drafted and his 2012 is below what Reed showed in Birmingham power wise. Sanchez is getting some buzz nationally because he's 20 and in AA, but Saladino's power has gone away this year and for some reason so has the average. Neither are elite prospects. I'd be surprised if either one turns in an above average everyday player anyway. Adding to this, Saladino's defense isn't nearly at the level that Sanchez's is, according to reports I've read. Sanchez is producing better at similar levels, at a younger age, and has better defensive skills relative to position. IMO Sanchez is a much more valuable prospect. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Justin Greene was placed on the inactive list. Last time that happened it was Pedro Hernandez and was the pre-cursor to the Liriano deal. Sometimes it is for personal reasons. Ravelo has been inactive for weeks now for personal reasons.
  11. Probably the best move. Septimo is an actual LOOGY, which they needed. Santiago will likely be a starter in the future, and had control issues. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) Charlotte needs Santiago in their rotation. Septimo was originally acquired off waivers from Arizona. They designated him for assignment last summer. Not sure about his options. What Charlotte needs in their rotation is pretty much irrelevant. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) Septimo is out of options I believe. This was suggested a while back, and pretty well debunked. He's never seen the majors, and never seen the 25-man before this year. and the option "Clock" in terms of service time wasn't turned on yet either. This will be his first option year, unless someone can show me otherwise.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) If all 30 #1's were listed and ranked, where do you think Molina would be? LOL, I think we all know the answer to that question. But the thing is, there is no way he is the #1 prospect in the system by anyone's actual standards. He's listed #1 there because its the Sox site, and they want to make it look like they didn't mess up with that trade. Molina is lower half of top 10 right now, if even that.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) What have his K numbers been like recently? Trending generally down as the season has gone on, though still somewhat high.
  14. Yeah I saw that too, and its kinda bizarre. Molina #1? Marinez #8? Semien #9? Wilkins 12? Blanke 13? And how do Silverio and Short even make the list - Short hasn't even played this year and he was marginal last year is it was.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:05 AM) Sure, in the 1950's. Not today. He said "supposed to", not "are".
  16. Here's another roster scenario to consider... they start 6 AND have 7 in the pen. Bench of only three: Flowers C and 1B, Hudson skill IF positions, Danks all OF. Not likely, but possible, at least short term.
  17. I think the most interesting thing with him is that he pitched 4 innings the other night. Possible they may be stretching him out with the intent of him starting in 2013.
  18. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) No. wouldn't be surprised if another trade happens now. That's the #2 scenario for me, a trade. Morel is my #1 guess. Saladino coming up would be about #6, behind Morel, trade, Johnson/Jackson, maybe even Kuhn.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:23 PM) Put it this way...if Escobar, Pedro Hernandez, Heidenreich, Walters, Lillibridge or Stewart are missed by the Sox, then it's likely the Sox team in the next few years are going to suck. Seriously... for Escobar, Hernandez, Heidenreich, Walters, Lillibridge and Stewart... we got Myers, Liriano and Youk, and some cash offsets. Um, yeah, Ill take that.
  20. I said Jackson/Johnson earlier, but I'm changing that to Morel, I honestly forgot about him. He has played some SS occasionally, and between him and Bekcham, they can spell Alexei the one or two games he'll miss this year going forward. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) We still have Santiago. True, haven't seen his splits though, seems like he's not particularly tough on lefties from the eye test.
  21. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) I bet Saladino will be joining the Sox tomorrow Really doubt it, he's struggled a lot this year.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) I have to imagine that the Sox will go with the 6 man staff and a 6 man bullpen. Septimo will most likely get sent down. Lefties are not too scared of Thornton nowadays, so that's potentially an issue.
  23. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) I think this likely means Danksy will be shut down. Danks hinted today that surgery was a possibility.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) Who's playing SS for Charlotte? Seems like we need to call up a new backup... or another trade Drew Garcia, who is a non-prospect. Kinda doubt he comes up.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) Why do people think a starting pitcher will get traded from the Sox now? We all know Sale will be skipped a lot the rest of the way, and you have a lot of question marks in Floyd/Humber/Q. Who said that? I think they go 6-man from here out to rest Sale and Peavy and Quintana.
