  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) He's a good guy, but no. Why? And if you were to choose a RH reliever to come up next, who would you choose?
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) Okay, you need to stop with messing up with prospects, because we gave up garbage spects (okay they have a pulse, but almost everyone thought they barely qualify as prospects), and yea we don't know the 3rd but I bet it isn't anything to special. I'll eat crow if it is, but we still got a ton amount of salary relief. The PTBNL likely falls into one of two categories: 1. 2011 draft pick not eligible for trade until August 2. The team is provided a list of prospects around some level of value, and they get to wait until end of season to choose which one. Those are the two common outcomes. In either case, it could be a good prospect the Sox will lose. But it is the #1 scenario that could be more painful, it it was a higher end draft choice. We'll find out soon. And who that PTBNL is will tell us more about the deal. As long as the PTBNL isn't, say, a top 5 pick from the 2011 draft, I'd say the Sox did pretty well with the trade. Walters and Heidenreich are not high end prospects - Walters is in the 20-30 range in the Sox system (which isn't a terribly deep one anyway), Heidenreich probably 25-35.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) Completely agree, I hope the Braves trade for him. I don't want to see the Sox give up Reed and someone like Quintana or Viciedo for 10 games of Greinke. If its Reed plus Quintana or Viciedo, no way. In fact, I am not sure I'd do just Viciedo. I'd do it for just Reed maybe, or just Quintana maybe.
  4. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) This is just my barely-informed guess but I think Reed is a key in any deal. Well, in that case, I hope we don't trade one of those outfielders. Actually, I'm not sure I want to see Reed traded at all. Floyd + Reed is probably the right value, but, I don't feel real good about any of the rest of the bullpen working as a closer.
  5. Floyd, one of Mitchell/Walker/Thompson, and one of the young relievers NOT named Reed. That should do it.
  6. Next time the Sox need a reliever from the minors, I'm starting to think we may see Brandon Kloess.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) White Sox scoring the last four innings... 2 2 2 2 That's a crooked number of crooked numbers.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) I would love it, however all those teams listed could offer a better package if minor league players in their sleep then us. But if were willing to trade Floyd and perhaps Beckham or another player off the roster we may have a chance. Arguably the three other teams mentioned are in the top 5 systems in baseball. Get er' done Kenny!! What they COULD offer is irrelevant. No one is going to go throwing around multiple high end prospects for 2 months of Greinke.
  9. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) isnt also the amount of money offered? meaning for example(in the past) if a.j. was making 5mil , u would offer 7mil , which he would turn down, but you still get the pick. now, even though if aj is making 5mil, you have to offer about 12mil ? Sounds like it is both, based on what you posted earlier. Team he gets traded TO, gets nothing either way. If you keep him full year and he becomes a free agent, AND if you make him an offer that is among the 125 highest in baseball at the time (so, top 10% or so), AND if the player turns it down, THEN you get a pick.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) That is only if the guy is traded in the last year of his deal. If it is your own free agent, you can still get comp. Then the rule didn't change. Because that was always the rule - you have a guy go free agent at end of contract, you make an offer, he turns it down, you get a pick. What has changed?
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) Wow, that would a terrible deal when you consider the money. No thanks. If FLA threw in about $20M, making MB's contract effectively $10M/year for 3 more years... I'd do it.
  12. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) Here's the latest on Dempster: (per MLB Trade Rumors) The Cubs now plan to keep Dempster and make him a qualifying offer after the season, ESPN.com's Buster Olney tweets. Doing so would allow the Cubs to collect a compensatory draft pick in 2013. The Dodgers have Zack Greinke and Josh Johnson on their list in case they don't trade for Greinke, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. Braves GM Frank Wren said on 680-AM The Fan in Atlanta that he's "moving on" from Dempster. "I think it's very highly unlikely," Wren said (via ESPNChicago.com). Once the Braves heard Dempster would prefer to play for the Dodgers, they moved on. Wren said the Braves continue pursuing starting pitchers. The Dodgers have the upper hand in talks with the Cubs, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets. The Dodgers are feeling increasingly confident that they can work out a deal for Dempster, ESPN.com's Buster Olney tweets. The Cubs don't have many alternatives given Dempster's interest in playing for L.A. and his no-trade protection. A trade between the Dodgers and Cubs still seems “realistic,” Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. The Dodgers still intend to add a starting pitcher, Scott Miller of CBSSports.com tweets. Wait a second... I thought the new rules with free agents were that you don't get a pick if they leave, even if you make an offer. Did I miss something?
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) I'm less concerned with age for catches, but I think it was time to move him up. BTW, that Kannapolis roster is starting to get ugly. I think we'll see several guys from Bristol, at least Hawkins and Barnum, make the jump straight to full season ball next year. Not much position playing talent on Great Falls' roster. There are a couple position players at GF that are a little interesting to me: Justin Jirschele and Micah Johnson. But that's about it, and Jirschele is an NDFA and probably won't keep it up in A ball.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) Smith needed a push. He should probably be pushing for a spot in AA to start next year. That's my thought as well. His defense is reported to be solid, and he's hitting A- pitching fairly well, but he's old for level. If he can hit in AA, he may jump up the prospect charts.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) Private party is the best for used cars That has its own risks too though.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:44 AM) 20,000 today is my guess. Looking at the map of available seats, they have sold most of the way out and up in the UD already. I'd say it will be at least 10,000 more than that.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) Seeing him doing well, yes i can read. You must have a different criteria for doing well then A guy who was drafted 1161st in the 2011 draft (38th round), had a decent season as a reliever in Bristol, gets converted to a starter, puts up very nice K and BB numbers, good ground ball numbers, and OK-decent core numbers in a very offense-heavy league... I'd definitely call that doing well. A guy drafted at that point, having any success at all is beating expectations. I never said he was suddenly a big prospect, or anything of the sort. Just that he's doing much better than one would expect, and it's fun to watch. I am not sure why you are trying to turn this into something it isn't. Doing well and beating expectations are not the same as being a serious prospect, necessarily, and I never made (and wouldn't make) that leap.
  18. This has been discussed in like three threads. Reasons include: haven't had a home series since pre-ASB, have very few home games in July in general, team in first place for weeks prior to the series, pent up demand, cheaper tickets available for Twins games. Maybe others too.
  19. What the... seriously folks? AJ is sitting for a game or two with a mild strain, and we're saying we need a new catcher? WTF? Settle down. Tyler needs some AB's anyway, and we're playing the Twins right now.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 07:46 AM) He's 24 in rookie ball with an ERA over 4 and allowing over a hit per inning. I wouldn't exactly be excited over that Which is why I typed that last sentence in my post that you quoted.
  21. I know its probably unrealistic, and that his contract is overpaying and severely backloaded.... but the fan in me would love to see M56 back with the Sox. Maybe the Fish can send some money with him in a trade to offset the fiscal cliff in his contract.
  22. Getting the sweep here, and therefore at least staying tied for first as well, would be a huge boost going into the next road trip.
  23. It's baaaaaack, after a 3 day absence (7/21 to 7/24). Just sayin'.
  24. 38th round draft pick Keegan Linza, converted to a starter, sporting a 7.3 K/9 vs 0.7 K/9 (yes, less than 1), for a better than 10:1 K:BB. Also inducing ground balls at a good rate. Core numbers are decent, especially for that league. Old for level, but, still fun to see a guy drafted that low do well.
  25. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) Chuck Garfien ‏@ChuckGarfien Another 37-thousand fans expected at White Sox game tonight. I don't see how that's possible, but I hope he's right. Haven't played a home game since before the break, team was in first until just recently. Pent up demand. Also, weather isn't as scorching hot now.
