  1. LOL @ the idea that this site is anything like WSI. I'll call that bluff every day. They are far, far more stringent than we ever are.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) I just want to know when's the last time we have a legitimate position prospect that had a decent walk rate? I don't mean in rookie ball or AFL...just consistently, in his first or second year of full-season. Just watching Youkilis hit, it makes DeAza (hardly takes a walk), Dunn (won't ever hit the ball to the opposite side and change his approach for the situation), Viciedo and Beckham almost intolerable to watch at times. Alexei too, for the first two months. AJ, at least if he's impatient he usually makes contact, except against good LHP. We haven't had a Jeff Abbott or Jeremy Reed in our system for a long time that was a legit 300-325 hitter, at least in the minors. One or two of them would be nice. I know someone will mention Carlos Sanchez this year, but you have to have something (pop, power, speed, fielding ability) to make you a really legit prospect. Maybe he's the closest, but he and Ravelo are essentially singles' hitters. So you want to see a legit 300+ hitter consistently, but who also has power and/or speed, and walks a lot? Very few such hitters exist throughout the minors. Or if they do, its guys like Brady Shoemaker who are old-for-level and not highly considered tools-wise. If you look at other organizations, some don't have anyone like that, others may have 1-2 of them at most at any time.
  3. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Has anyone posted about this? Missed it a couple days ago. @jnorris427 Heard from a source that ‪#WhiteSox‬ are definitely "zeroing in" on ‪#Yankees‬ Betances. https://twitter.com/jnorris427/status/225000416818118659 Betances' walk numbers are scary as hell. If the Sox are after him, I hope they see something they think they can fix.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) Hawkins fits right in with Viciedo in terms of K's and walks. Oh, well. Ayala is going to put himself on the map quickly as our top catching prospect. Which isn't exactly a high bar to jump over. You are seriously making an analogy between Hawkins and Viciedo, based on Hawkins' first few weeks in rookie ball at 18? And Ayala has played TWO GAMES, one of which was good. He may put himself on the map that way eventually, but come on man. Two games?
  5. I may have voted Quintana if that was an option. Losing Danks and replacing him with some AA pitcher another team left unprotected, putting on a mid-2's ERA... that right there is the difference between being in first by 3.5, and being muddled with the Tigers and Indians.
  6. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan Bosox@ChiSox 6:10 CSN. DeAza CF, Youkilis 3B, Dunn DH, Knrko 1B, Rios RF, Prznski C, Viciedo LF, Ramirez SS, Beckhm 2B. Hrnandez v Doubrant Apparently he needs to buy a vowel.
  7. Wow, don't often see a post like this in here. Well done, Y2HH.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) I like Beckham. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) I don't like Beckham. I just wanted to see your response. Again, guys, he's just pushing your buttons.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) Ok... Why? Because Tim Hullett, Dan Pasqua and Kelly Paris, that's why!
  10. I have to think Marty is just pushing people's buttons here. No chance he actually believes that Pierre will maintain his OPS vs RHP that is 150 points higher than his career norms.
  11. 55 plate appearances so far, enough that it might be worth looking a little at the numbers... and Brady is killing AA pitching, to the tune of .354/.466/.646/1.111. So much for struggling in transition. I'm sure his numbers won't stay quite that gaudy, but, it is impressive. He's getting closer and closer to the point where you have to consider him a legit prospect.
  12. Hawkins doing better so far in Bristol than I thought he would at this point. Molina probably only went 2 IP by design, and he did OK, so that's good to see. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) I gotta admit, Shoemaker is impressing me. I'm still a doubter because 25 in AA is nothing to write home about, but he is raking. Agree. I was glad he got promoted, but I figured there was an 80% chance he'd struggle, at least at first, with AA pitching. Apparently not.
  13. Winner gets the thread, so here we go again... This guy... ...will beat this guy... Because guys named Pedro win in Boston. GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!
  14. Mark was injured in a game on 7/10, and is on the DL. Haven't been able to determine the nature of the injury or how long he'll be out.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) I am not disputing PK is a main cog in our offense. In fact, I stated earlier that by moving him back you might get him right more quickly, due to him not putting so much pressure on himself. We're going to need him down the stretch. PK is notorious for the pressure he puts on himself. Getting him back in the game mentally is key. Wait... so are his feeling important or not? And how does moving him down help him mentally? You think a guy like Konerko, with his experience and career, is afraid of pressure?
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) Pierre played last night. He is not retired. How long will it be before Viciedo has an .814 OPS v. right-handers? Wrong question. The better question is, how long will Pierre's numbers hold up at his age and based on his career? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) For his career, Pierre has a .712 OPS against RHP, .654 over the last three years.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) Why is that the best way to get results? You are offering absolutely zero evidence for this opinion. Maybe he would relax a bit if he weren't always hitting in such high-leverage spots? He's currently hitting behind two of the most patient hitters in baseball right now. He obviously has no speed, which is compounded by the fact that he isn't even running out of the box anymore, so he is a double-play machine and stranding runners in scoring position at an obscene rate. I'm not comfortable leaving him there because you say "leaving him in that spot until he puts it back together is simply the best way to get results." On the bolded... go look at PK's stats the last few years. I didn't think that even needed to be cited, it is that obvious.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) What are your reasons then? As stated in my earlier post... QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) What's ridiculous is moving guys around the lineup constantly when the team is doing well, and when the pieces you want to move have shown to be good hitters who, like everyone else, have slumps. Making these changes right now just isn't a smart move, IMO. He's Paul Konerko. He slumps, but he's also an incredibly good hitter. As long as he's healthy, leaving him in that spot until he puts it back together is simply the best way to get results.
  19. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) Cruz has not yet appeared on our DSL Roster. There are a couple of players on that team with big time stats, by the way. DSL competition is so all over the place, its really hard to draw any conclusions from them. At that level and age, 95% of your scouting has to be about tools and skills, not results. Not that its bad for those guys to put up nice numbers of course - it only helps. Just saying, it is really stretching it to read a whole ton into it at that level.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) So we're willing to let him kill us in the cleanup spot instead of just moving him down to 6 or 7 because we don't want to hurt his feelings? Yes, clearly, that is the only reason to keep him in the cleanup spot. His feelings.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) You guys are absolutely ridiculous. You sound like Lovie Smith..."Rex is our quarterback." He cannot continue on his the rampage of suckitude while batting in the 4th spot. He's absolutely killing us right now. You go ahead and cite our winning record despite his horrendous performance. I say many of the games we did lose, including some of those tough losses Jake took, could, or should have been wins. He's not an 8 year old. He'll deal with the move down in the lineup just fine. What's ridiculous is moving guys around the lineup constantly when the team is doing well, and when the pieces you want to move have shown to be good hitters who, like everyone else, have slumps. Making these changes right now just isn't a smart move, IMO.
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) You do admit KW's recent trade history, he hasn't been stealing people blind. In some cases, definitely agree. No point hashing them all out again. But then, there IS no GM who constantly fleeces other people. No such animal. KW has definitely made some mistakes the past few years, I wouldn't argue otherwise. I just think your post about not having a good trade "win" since acquiring Quentin was anything like accurate. Also, "winning" trades isn't necessarily about getting better results than the team you trade with. It is more about getting what you were looking for.
  23. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) Why? He hasn't made a clear winning trade since getting Quentin. Seriously? Here's a hint - he made a very successful one THIS SEASON already.
  24. Haven't done one in a while... *cough cough* This guy... ...shall beat this guy... 'cause hummers are better than lesters. GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:19 AM) The Sox have the second best record in baseball the past 6 weeks or so. The performance isn't preventing wins. Hawk mentioned a week or so ago his wrists and he did use the plural, were still not right. I also think his has a leg problem. He's slumping, but he'll be fine soon. Thank you. A guy like PK, he will almost assuredly get out of the slump soon, and you don't move guys like him around in the order based on slumps. If you do, you are just changing the order constantly, and that has negative ramifications as well. Keep him there.
