Who here has seasons for this year? Just got mine, like 10 minutes ago. No matter how bad things look for this season, I still always love this moment. And looking at the tickets, here is something interesting... the images on the tickets? Not one of the six images has a Sox player on it. Not one. They are all fans, crowds, fireworks, etc.

Thought this was interesting... The Las Vegas lines for the ISU v UConn game are all very tight, no more than 2 points either way, with some lines going each way. And yet, go onto ESPN to see the bracket pick counts, and 82.4% of the picks go to UConn at this point.

I usually fill out a bracket, then end up going in and tweaking it three or four different times. Inevitably, the tweaks end up getting me less points. So this year, I went pretty much on first instinct, and I ain't changing a thing. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) It's dependent on the current stock price of GM, but as of November it was 24 billion. $25/share now, so a little lower. http://hotair.com/archives/2011/11/17/good...s-14-3-billion/ But as that article notes, there were some tax-maneuverings that are covering up the "real" cost. Edit: I guess I shouldn't have said "right now." I thought this article had come out in Jan or Feb. My bad. I think this is where the disconnect is - people seem to think the deal is done. It isn't. What I guess I should have said wasn't that it WENT well, but that it is GOING well. It is very likely GM will pay most of that money back. Chrysler already paid almost all of theirs back, last I checked.

Kentucky (1) Mizzou (2) Cincinnati (6) Kansas (2) I don't like any of the top seeds in the East, I think that whole region will be messed up. I could easily see the 4 Sweet Sixteens spots in the East having 1 or no top 4 seeds in that region.
-
I think what little chance Leesman had of making the roster is gone with his showings so far in the spring. Floyd helping his trade value, that's a nice.
-
Just did my initial bracket. I'm sure I'll change it. But this region is a f***ing mess.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) FYI we're down 25 billion on that deal right now, depending on the stock price of GM. By what measure? That is not in the neighborhood of what I have seen.

Just a short piece on now-outgoing Congressman Kucinich, that has a couple nice moments described in it. It really is hard not to like the guy.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) Are we all in agreement that as Adam Dunn goes, so goes the team? I don't mean that his having a great year means success for the Sox, just that if he reverts to being that guaranteed out he was last year we're pretty much hopeless in 2012? Although things are looking encouraging so far. Ah, let me amend that: Dunn and Rios. They can't have another 2011 without dragging the team down. The team's fortunes will likely rest on the four horsemen of underachievement from 2011: Dunn, Rios, Beckham and Peavy. IF all of them, or even three of them, get to where their talent/averages have been, this team will be well above .500. If, say, one or none of them recover in a meaningful way, I could see this team having a 2007-like record.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Thus sayeth mr. genius, and it was so. Yeah, but he has a valid point. I don't even necessarily disagree with it - as I said, I didn't really favor Obama's approach when he took it. I was just saying, hey, as it turns out, they executed their plan pretty well, and it worked out quite well in the end.

Sox spring training Catch All thread

Seems like Robin has a plan, and doesn't care if the team is clicking yet or not. Not sure I agree, but I'm certainly willing to be patient and see if he's right. 2 weeks from now, if this team still looks like this in ST, I will start to be worried. -
Anyone been able to see what was going on with Jake? The results are a little disturbing, but how concerned I am depends on what is wrong. Or what he was trying to do out there.
-
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) I think Creighton is well ahead of both ISU and KSU, 2 of the other 8 seeds. I think they are much more in line with SDSU, Cincy, and UNLV. On the other hand, I'd say UNLV and SDSU are over-seeded.

Annual Soxtalk Bracket Challenge
NorthSideSox72 replied to Brian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I don't see on here what the point system is for this specific pool. How is the scoring done? Lots of ways to skin the cat, but how you do the scoring may dictate some of my picks. -

NC State probably just got themselves in. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) They're not really allowed to play KU in the 2nd round. Well yeah. When I said "Kansas or the like", I should have just said "Kansas-like".

BP Cup preview game- Sox/Cubs 3/9/12
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2012 Season in Review
Maybe it was the pitches he was facing, but watching Jordan Danks, it is little wonder he strikes out so much. Seems like he is making his swing decision way, way early, and has a slow load-up. -
QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Unless they are the 8/9 seed in the UK or Syracuse bracket, I dont see the difference in them being a 7th seed against a 2 seed or 8/9 vs one of the other 1 seeds. Well that's just it. Syracuse and Kentucky are just not beatable for a team like ISU. Kansas or the like, though, they have a small shot. So I guess it depends a lot on which bracket. 8 vs 9 is very little difference, but 7 vs 8 could be a big difference.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan Short, an OF prospect, crashed into center field wall Thursday in Surprise. Left shoulder dislocation, torn labrum. Brandon short has torn labrum in left shoulder and is out for the year. Torn Labrum? Ugh, that sucks. I had surgery for a torn labrum and capsular damage. As I recall, I was pretty useless for a few days after surgery... but after about 3 months of PT I was pretty close to normal. Then a few more months of conditioning, and supposedly you can be back to 100%. I never really did get back complete throwing strength, but everything else came back OK.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) Travis Wood Ah, OK. That makes sense. -
With the job market being soft (but improving), a 2nd kid on the way and facing 2 years of 2 day care bills, it would take a lot. But in 5 or 6 years? Not that much.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Sox lineup vs. Cubs: De Aza - CF Pierzynski - C Rios - RF Konerko - 1B Dunn - DH Ramirez - SS Viciedo - LF Morel - 3B Beckham - 2B Sale - P Cubs lineup vs. Sox: Soriano - DH Barney - 2B Baker - RF LaHair - 1B Byrd - CF Mather - LF Clevenger - C Lake - SS Gonzalez - 3B Wood - LHP Interesting, the Sox look like they are running out their opening day lineup for this one. Also, Wood is an LHP? -
That sucks. He's already kind of marginal as a prospect anyway, he didn't have much room for an injury. Hopefully it is a dislocation without significant damage, and he heals up quick. Obviously that is regardless of his prospect status, you just hate to see kids trying to make it get hurt.
