  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) I signed up for auto alerts on safety levels for tourists in Morocco from the US Govt, and got one a few days ago saying that there would be protests in almost all major cities during the time I will be there. Im sure hoping it stays civil and the situation doesn't explode while Im there. The email did advise that it is fine for tourists to still go there, but to avoid the protests, because even though they are planned to be civil that violence could always breakout. Its generally a good idea in any foreign country, to avoid the mobs. Avoid any sort of civil conflict situations. I ended up accidentally being in the middle of the Indian equivalent of a flash mob once - apparently a construction worker was killed (not unusual, safety there for such things is a joke), and so all the other workers decided to take to the street and stop traffic, and pile up bricks and rocks everywhere, yelling and screaming. I made a quick exit from the area.
  2. The situation in Yemen appears to be eroding quickly.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 05:51 AM) People and things getting blown up. Which course would NOT have led to that? And how can you agree with the course of taking military action, but not agree with things getting blown up?
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) Everything you post always makes me feel better about the situation. Except his avatar.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) YEAH although it is not the "official" predictions thread It is now.
  6. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) But the question is, is this injury the start of an even more serious shoulder injury than the lat injury such as a rotator cuff tear, which would basically be a kiss of death to a pitcher's velocity? Any time I see the words "injury" and "rotator cuff" for a pitcher I immediately think that guy might be done soon as an effective pitcher. Obviously that's different - and it could be that, I have no idea. I'm just saying that, for a guy who couldn't pitch or throw or even walk much for an extended period, you really have to expect something to get a little tweaked in ST. If he hadn't, I'd have been shocked - I was surprised it happened this late. But you are right that what is expected, COULD be masking something more serious. We'll probably know in a couple weeks.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) http://twitter.com/MDGonzales Ozzie definitely doesn't count on injured players. Once they're out of site, they are out of mind. I got real optimistic yesterday when Peavy threw 83 pitches. Today has made me go back to not expecting anything from him. Could he come back soon and be productive? Sure, but I'm done counting on it. I think Ozzie is in that same category. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) Humber to pitch Thursday, confirmed by Coop. I suppose something like this was to be expected - he's just not in shape yet, and it isn't even the injury. This is probably better off for the long run anyway - slow him down, let him get up to speed gradually, Humber starts 3-4 games, then Peavy shows up fully loose and ready. A little disappointing, but not a huge setback either.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) I agree with the course, don't agree with where it led to. Where has it led to that you disagree with?
  9. We can keep the other thread for discussion, I just wanted to take a quick poll. I'm curious how people feel about the military actions in Libya.
  10. Fascinating to watch the difference between BushCo and ObamaCo - both of their strengths and weaknesses.
  11. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) How do they do this? like i said my manager at the job i claimed to work at for 4 years(when it was only 2) was a lifelong friend and already knows about my mistake and has my back so if they called him hed tell him i was there from the times stated on the app They may not talk to your manager, they may ask to talk with HR.
  12. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) The people who put expert on their resume for a subject matter that they have maybe seen once or twice in their life. I had a person put expert in F5 load balancers. I asked them a basic F5 question about persistence, and I get the well I didn't actually install it. I just logged into the gui a few times. WTF. Really. You apply for a senior engineering position and every product you put on your resume is something you just maybe have logged into once or twice. Or people who are supposed networking people that can't explain the TCP 3 way handshake. How do you put stuff on your resume that you haven't the slightest idea how to install it, configure it, or work with it. I am sure this is the same across other industries. I don't think I ever use the word expert on my resume, and if I see it on a candidate's resume, I make sure that someone who knows that area really pounds them on it. If you call yourself an expert on something, you'd better come ready, or your interview will be very short. This is a big issue in tech, people tend to just smatter tech skills all over their resume mixed in with words like "expert", so that you can't really tell what they are actually expert in, if anything.
  13. Just to throw more gas on the fire... violence in Yemen is getting worse, police there fired into a crowd of tens of thousands and killed at least 31 protesters.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 07:33 AM) I know this is the right decision, but somehow, I really wish Morel was making it easy on us. Even though I still think Morel is the better option overall, I do have fears that Brent's hitting will be very much like Chris Getz in his first full year.
  15. In terms of bullpen guys, there actually is some depth in the minors. Infante is ready, Bellamy is close, and then there's a big wave of pretty decent candidates about a year out. Starting pitching though, is another story. Rotation in Charlotte will probably be something like Marquez/Lowe/Shirek/Hynick/Leesman. Marquez has looked good this spring and I could see him bouncing back, but he's near wash-out status. Leesman is intriguing, he might be the only guy who looks real ready to step in if needed. Shirek was progressing nicely until last year, when his peripherals took a dive and he was hurt, so who knows. Lowe and Hynick are filler. Thing is, Sale and Humber are likely to be on the roster, and they could both potentially step in - so I don't think starting depth in the minors is even an issue for THIS SEASON. Next season may be another story.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) Dude, check the link. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 08:00 AM) Balta FTW! I've been gotten. Its been a long week, and this is what I get for scanning and not following the links.
  17. That is one of the most logically assinine sentences I've ever read.
  18. Tony Pena is batting 1.000 for spring training. Scored a run too.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) How the hell are there any death related to biomass and peat?
  20. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) Senate Rule 93. Special or extraordinary sessions. Unless otherwise provided by the senate for a specific special or extraordinary session , the rules of the senate adopted for the biennial session , with the following modifications, apply to each special session called by the governor and to each extraordinary session called by the senate and assembly organization committees or called by a joint resolution approved by both houses: Senate Rule 93 (2) (2) A notice of a committee meeting is not required other than posting on the legislative bulletin board, and a bulletin of committee hearings may not be published. So not even the 2 hour notice was required but as a courtesy. Senate rules are not vaild if in conflict with state law.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 08:19 AM) Genuinely improving but still not good numbers,. Keeps sneaking down, and has stayed pretty well below any danger level for a while. Need consistent numbers under 375k to start really cheering though. Housing has shown two interesting things lately. One, housing starts went down to like a 25 year low - which I like to see. And the rental market is projecting to get really strong, with rents going very high - this is usually a precedent to a jump into home ownership as rents become so high that it makes more sense to buy.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Not really, unless he still has a 20 yo toilet. Government regulation spurred innovation such that modern toilets use significantly less water and work just as effectively. Sort of like improved incandescents being developed once government regs came in. I can't tell if you are being sarcastic, but I clearly wasn't referring to the toilets part of the discussion.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Right, I agree. But why the difference (well, "difference") of what's happening between the two countries? Edit. Just saw your second post - wouldn't it make the argument that Gaddafi should be pushed harder from power then what we've pushed for, as opposed to Egypt? I can't wait to hear this. Should be something about a conspiracy involving Obama, oil companies, and possibly France.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Rand Paul also blames his broken toilet on the government. Psycho though he may be, he's right on this.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) I just love the stuff that MLB players can get away with including breaking the law and no penalty is assessed on th field. But take some ripped fuel, and BAM, suspension. Is there any other pro sport where your off the field behavior means nothing to your status on the field? Actually, when it comes to HOF induction, only Baseball has a character clause.
