QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 10:00 AM) I do, but that's just me. If there's a topic you want to debate...start a thread and debate. But leave Repub thread for Repubs and a Dem thread for Dems. I believe that was the original intent and it got all jacked up during the pres election. Everybody would be a lot happier...except of course for the people who just can't read a thought without hitting reply. May of 2008 and really you can go back to when the threads were first created. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1640151 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1642378 So, problem with that... that means I can't really post in either forum. Or maybe that's a good thing for everyone else.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) 31st and one of my W2's is still MIA. WTF W-2's don't have to be done by the provider until 1/31, then mailed or sent out. So it can easily be a week into Feb before they are all available. Some companies go all the way until that last day with it.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) I don't have that much to enter but I use TurboTax and it took me about 15 minutes. Would've taken 10 if I had paid the $20 to have it transfer over last years info. I have a lot of crap to enter, along the lines of what Rock said. Takes me a solid half day.

QUOTE (supernuke @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) Played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the minors. Another Winnipeg goldeye Steve Carlton. Always thought of him as a lefty Tom Seaver. Tim Hulett

I should have all the data I need by end of this week, then its the annual ritual of finding a Saturday or Sunday to carve out most of the day (at least the afternoon anyway) to do this s***. Fun fun.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) Anyone here any revisions to the forecast or it still supposed to be a doozy? Tom Skilling saying we will get a "small" storm starting this afternoon into tomorrow morning, dropping 4" (or 6" near lake). Then Tuesday the hammer drops with the bigger storm, which is 16-24" of snow. Heavier near the lake.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) The New Year's Day blizzard. That s*** was awful. I was living in Evanston at the time, we got 32" overnight. I was parking on the street at that time, and by the time I went to dig out the car (in Evanston during snow rule you have to switch sides of the street each night), I couldn't tell where my car actually was. There was just a series of lumps along the side of the road covered in snow, so you had to shovel off part of a car... decide that no, that wasn't yours... and move onto the next one. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) Man you guys are f***ed. Last year's East Coast blizzard was 2 feet plus, about what that forecast looks like. I believe the 24-hour record snowfall for Chicago is like 19.8" That's at O'Hare. By the lake I've seen 3 feet-ish in one storm. Also, I remember the '78 winter blizzards, where it snowed for a week and there was 4-5 feet of snowpack on the ground. That was the worst I've seen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 08:24 AM) Honestly, I was willing to believe both. Still would be. I'm sorry but that $200M per day number was entirely absurd. But I won't go into that any further, its already been talked to death.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) No I propose we keep driving people off with the pretty much one way hyperpartisianship. On the bolded, no way. On the hyperpartisanship, absolutely. Its just not coming from only one side.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) But they didn't, that's an important point. I'm having flashbacks to the "ZOMG! Obama spending 200 TRillion a day in India!" crap/ Well, the possibility of a slow-down among NY street cleaners is pretty plausible, even if it turns out not to be true. The idea that the President was spending $200M a day in India for travel was unbelievable on its face.

Baseball America's Top 31 Sox Prospects
NorthSideSox72 replied to Springfield Soxfan's topic in FutureSox Board
Harrell and Cofield don't belong on the list at all, and I think Rienzo and Flowers should be higher than they are. Otherwise looks about right. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) This year, the U.S. government will collect the lowest share of GDP as taxes since the year 1950. This is one area I agree with you on... the narrative being pushed by the right about the supposed overspending and overtaxing liberals is not only false, its actually something that is accurate about themselves. Taxation levels as part of GDP lowest in 60 years, discretionary spending lowest in relative dollars basically forever, and most of the deficits and debt are the result of GOP Congressional and Presidential actions. But nevermind reality.

White Sox have interest in Freddy Garcia

QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) I just threw up reading this list! There's a few talented guys in there, but not a one of them is likely to be an effective major league starter to open 2011. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) I'm disagreeing that 3 or 4 neighborhoods are more important than the city as a whole. I think some of the expectations of the mayor here are unattainable, by anyone. If you wanted to make the entire city like downtown, in terms of the pretty/clean factors, it would cost ridiculous money. Like, double the city property tax portion money. The reality is that NONE of the city was in the shape it should have been 25 years ago. Now, there has been dramatic improvement in some areas, small improvements in others. And yes, there are yet other areas that are basically no better than they were - which is what would happen in any city with any mayor. But the idea here is, byt revitalizing targeted areas of the city, bringing in new businesses and more tourists, etc., you saw the decades-long decline in population reverse to an actual increase, and that absolutely has an effect on the entire city. It means more jobs, even if they aren't right around the corner. You can't fix it all, not right away anyway, so you fix what gives you the biggest bang for your buck, and hope it spreads... which it did, far and wide (even if not everywhere).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Those barriers are important from a psychological standpoint with traders. If it can hold, it could sustain the rally for a while longer. I think I just said that.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) Not a prospect in that he played in the majors some last year? Or just not a prospect because Law does not think highly of him? Law doesn't think he's going to be anything in the majors. Law also, for reasons no one has ever really determined, seems to consistently be far more negative on the Sox (majors or minors) than, well, pretty much any other national writer. So I'd take his evaluation of Sox players with a giant mound of salt.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 08:40 AM) I take it no one else watched the debate? You all waiting to see who has the best campaign commercial to help you make your choice? Recorded it, read about it this morning, plan to watch it in the next few days. I've already eliminated Braun. She had a laugher I saw in the debate, again - criticizing Emmanuel and Chico for being politicians going from one appointment to another. This from a former Senator who was then given the oh-so-difficult job of Ambassador to New Zealand.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 08:55 AM) 3rd day now. Its an important test day going into the weekend. It needs to hold, or it could be a while until it hits it again with that kind of resistance built up. I think this is one of those round number resistence things - so it may not behave the same way as normal technical resistence points. Not sure if that means more or less likely, but I wouldn't necessarily say its the same 3 and over rule that people are accustomed to in this case.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) Just a waste of money. No computer geek is gonna buy an Intel chip because of will.i.am. Wrong demographics. No, but wasn't it intel that had that fantastic ad a year or two ago with the inventor of the USB being treated like a rock star? Now that was an effective ad for a tech company.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) Saw the Other Guys yesterday. Like just about every Will Ferrell movie, it had a couple good laughs but overall was disappointing. I can't think of a movie of his I've liked since Anchorman. I thought he was terrific in an atypical role in Stranger than Fiction.

Q4 GDP growth initial report comes in at 3.2%. It was 2.6% in Q3 final revision, so that's a nice step... although expecations were for 3.5% in Q4 among analysts. Personal consumption - aka consumer retail spending - jumped 4.4%, the biggest jump in at least 4 years. Commercial and residential construction was a laggard and actually decreased significantly (which, as you all know, I'd call a good thing for now). Hopefully this gives a boost to manufacturing in 2011 Q1.

White Sox have interest in Freddy Garcia

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Can we just let the Freddy stuff go away, please? Anyone we pluck from AA/AAA would be just as good or bad Let's look at the list of starters or starter/relievers that will likely be in AA/AAA to start 2011. You are saying that one of these guys: Lucas Harrell Phil Humber Charlie Shirek Jeff Marquez Johnnie Lowe Brandon Hynick Charlie Leesman Matt Long Justin Edwards Terry Doyle Dylan Axelrod Is on par with Freddy Garcia? Right now? Sure, a couple of those guys may become decent starters at some point. But to open 2011? Really? -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) Another one of the young pitchers from 2000 that started strong but never made a long career out of it, played for the Cubs too. Herbert Perry Milkman delivers!!! Gary Redus

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) That is hilarious because I thought 46% of Texas thought the President was a Muslim interloper. That's 46 of the 47 points for Palin. The other 1% are her relatives.
