QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) I am against any paper receipt that leaves with the voter. That would be the end to a private ballot. How is that?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) That's my reaction to any result of that race. This. No one wins here.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) wow http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/us-to-sp...bai-visit-64106 Obama spending $200 million a day on visit to India LOL, says an official within the Maharashtra regional government. I'm sure its very expensive, but that sounds absurdly high to me.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) No he really is. I've watched the kid since college. It's not like he's gonna lose it. It's like saying Zimmerman was a stud since SUU and all of a sudden he's gonna lose it at the big league level. The reports are there. Were not comparing bats to translate here. If Morel really is of the mindset that he's already a stud and has nothing to learn from Omar vizquel, then I can pretty much guarantee he won't be one in the majors. Fortunately, I'm sure he realizes he still has a lot to learn, and has the opportunity to do so from a probable future HOF'er and multi-position GG winner. Its not about "losing it", its about making the transition to the next level.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Just so everyone knows, I am working on a Google Docs spreadsheet that I plan to share a link with everyone. It will aggregate some exit poll data to see just how close some of the races are. What races would you all like me to include? I have Brady/Quinn and Kirk/Giannoulias at the moment. Angle/Reid.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Not a fan of it only because Ozzie will probably give him as many if not more at-bats this season. I think the year he had with us with the bat was more luck than anything. As long as his at-bats decrease (barring injury, or letting the kid Morel play) he's a fine glove off the bench. Morel is already a stud with the glove, so it's not like he's gonna help him much there. Hopefully Beckham can take the next step. There is a big difference between a guy who appears to be a future stud based on minor league play, and a guy who is actually a defensive stud in the majors. You make it seem like its assured, but its really not. That's where Omar can be a help. I like Morel, but he's not a "stud with the glove" until he does it in the big leagues for a while.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) As long as he's a defensive replacement like he was coming into 2010, sure, why not. Although nearly $2 million seems a bit much. He's really got two roles - UT infielder (and he's what I would consider "plus" at that role), plus infield coach. Hell, I think his influence on Alexei alone was worth half his contract from last year or more. Guys like Morel and Beckham and maybe Viciedo could learn a lot.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Does anyone else think this means Morel is a lock to be the starting 3B in 2011? I would think if we were considering a more expensive and proven option at 3B, then having Vizquel would be a bit of a luxury. I know $1.75 million isn't a lot of money, but we do have several big holes that need to be filled. At least this should mean no more Teahen at 3B. Unfortunately, I don't see how he fits into the equation now. The only value Teahen provides to the team is a solid bat against righties as backup at several positions, but I'm not sure how much usage he'll really get now. Hopefully we sign or trade for a left-handed power bat for 1B/DH/RF, so that's one position where his value as a backup is minimal. Also, if Quentin remains on the team, that's another spot where Teahen has limited value. At this point, it probably makes the most sense to eat half his contract and see if someone will bite or try swapping him for another over-priced player that fits some need. Regardless of who plays 3B, for $1.75M you get a guy who plays plus defense at all three skill infield positions for your bench, and at the same time, you get an infield coach for younger players. That's a pretty good deal, really. The only relationship I can see with Morel is that if they have him, and/or Viciedo, playing the field at 3B and/or 1B, that's so much more the reason to have Omar around to coach them a bit. Think about this: if your infield is Morel-Ramirez-Beckham-Viciedo, then you've got 3 guys who can learn a ton from Omar and a 4th who already has.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) I actually never went to a barber in my life, so I'm not sure if it's different at barbershops, but I usually go to places like SuperCuts where I can go in as a walk-in, get a quick buzzcut, and be out in just 5 minutes. Usually at places like SuperCuts, they just take your name and serve you right away if there's no one else waiting ahead of you. There were times when I tried to go to the haircut places that's just a walking distance from my house, and they take your name as well and you have to sit down while they sweep off the haircut area. Usually I find places like salons to be understaffed and they take forever to give people haircuts and because of that it gives the people who called in for an appointment too much time to beat the clock instead of serving me first. I'm not sure if it's a generational thing, but even if I wanted to, calling in for an appointment would be too much of a hassle for me. I'm just part of the "fast food culture" that's used to being able to walk in anyplace and getting served right away. To me, calling in for an appointment is kind of an outdated custom, kind of like writing checks at supermarkets. Plus, calling in for an appointment is too restrictive on my time. I like to keep my schedule spontaneous enough to allow for me to be able to stop at other stores on the way to the haircut place on a whim, rather than being committed to a scheduled appointment. So that's why I go to a SuperCuts about 6 miles from my house, and other random SuperCuts in other neighborhoods (to see what hot girls work there), because I get served right away as a walk-in instead of going to one of the two haircut places that I can walk to from my house. Some places do appointments from their website now.

Many feel that small businesses ramping up is often the first harbinger of a stronger economic recovery. If that's true, then recent data about small businesses would seem to suggest the beginnings of a surge may already be underway... From Trib Biz.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Turnout in Illinois? Trib's running blog makes it seem that turnout in Chicago area precincts is on par with 2008, which was a Prez election, so that's quite high.

So, are there any Sox players with options still undecided? My read is no, looking at Kalapse's data, but maybe I am missing something.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) So now that players don't have to file for free agency, and it is done automatically, do... clubs get 5 days to exclusively negotiate with 'their' respective players, example Sox - Paulie, Twins - Thome, Phillies - Werth, Rangers - Lee, am I correct? According to the Trib, the Sox have exclusive negotiating rights with PK through Saturday. After that, the flood gates open. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Naturally, Iowa State still controls its destiny in the Big 12 North as we roll into game ten of the season. All Iowa State needs to do is win two home games and at Colorado, and they go to the final Big 12 Championship game. Maybe we'll get lucky and get to face Zac Lee again. Seriously though, if Iowa State can go 2-1 the rest of the year (a win over Colorado, and a split of Mizzou/Nebraska in Ames), how long til Paul Rhoads is mentioned for bigger and better jobs? EDIT: And, now, apparently, Taylor Martinez went from being probable against ISU to having a "shot" to play against ISU, according to Pelini. We are his dad's alma mater, after all, so I guess he really wants to play. Even going 1-2 should net ISU a bowl game, finishing at 6-6. 7-5 would be fantastic. 8-4 would be absurd. Rhoads seems to have done a lot with a little in his couple years in Ames, I'm fairly impressed. I think he's gotten his teams to play above their talent level. -
Keep talking Sarah. Here's a little more rope. No really, keep going. Keep going until we make sure you talk yourself out of any future office.

I'll call the Senate 52-48 Dems after the election, and GOP wins the house and gets a 10-20 seat majority there.

QUOTE (Real @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Don't forget to re-open trade winds, official trade/hot stove starts November 8th! Not much point in Trade Winds during the offseason, since PHT basically is that, with no current play to watch.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) Does anyone know of a good site with a break down of all the races. With maybe a map and some poll numbers. Best site for statistical analysis of polls and what not is Nate Silver's 538 blog.

Also, brought my almost-2-year-old daughter with to vote this AM. Her first time seeing that process. She is wearing an "I voted" sticker to school today, and quite proud of it.
