QUOTE (maki @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) Mully and Hanley reporting Harrell's facebook page said he's on his way today. Kind of surprised its Harrell over Torres.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) And how'd that work out? Well, I wasn't trying to make a serious point of it, I just thought it was worth a chuckle. Obviously the situations are different.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but it seems like there were more interesting GOP primaries than Dem ones yesterday... Looks like the newbie candidates won out more often than not in the hot races. Seems to me that's good and bad. Its good to get some new blood in there, and certainly good to get some candidates in there who understand fiscal restraint. Problem is, look at what is happening in Nevada. You have a novice going against Harry Reid, and the novice is managing to take defeat from the jaws of victory. Will these newcomer candidates have the same sorts of issues, and be more easily beaten in the general elections against experienced opponents?

Threets for Thornton's slot is pretty much a given. Torres 75% for the other spot, but I'll throw in a sleeper pick for that one: Gregory Infante. He was promoted to B-Ham mid-season, struggled at first, but has been lights-out lately. Last 10 games: 11.2 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 6 BB, 13 K, 2.60 GO/AO, .162 AvgA. He's a fireballer (JPN reports he was over 100 on the gun recently), the org is high on him, and by my count there are 39 guys on the 40 man roster. I also think that Infante has to be protected next year anyway for the Sox to keep him, so this would just be a slightly earlier move. If they pick up Manny, someone is being shown the door most likely anyway, so the 40 man slot is less likely to be an issue.

Sort of related to the general theme of the thread (the original one), I noticed on Facebook today, some friends joined/liked a group called: "Illegal immigration is not a new problem, Native Americans used to call it 'White People'. "

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) Wilkins is 1/1 with a 2B, BB, and SB so far. Phegley went 3/4 with a 2B. He is really coming on strong since the injury. AVG up to .321 Morel went 1/4 with a 2B. That is so great to see from Josh, I'm really happy for him. I honestly thought it was more likely he'd be out of baseball next year, than getting a promotion this year and performing.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) There is a certain camp that says we shouldn't have done anything re: stimulus. I can point and counterpoint on this all day... but there certainly is merit that the timing of this "recession" would be half of what it is, but more severe, which would have real results instead of just pushing this gigantic bubble out more and more. Sure, there's this "extend the bubble so less people get hurt" theory, but really, is it? And, people are sitting on cash because no one knows the business environment right now other then the government is going to take more and more... so of course business sits on cash. It's what happens when you have no real policy but to extend things out, hoping it gets better. One last point, this is NOT just a Democrat/Republican issue. Both parties are just as guilty as the other in this thinking. Hey, a non-Kaperbole post! Yes!!! Now, I will ask you, do you really think that if we hadn't done any stim package, and done nothing, that the recession will have been shorter? Also, are you suggesting doing nothing, or instead doing tax cuts? Remember by the way that a solid half of the Stim bill was tax cuts of one kind or another.

Remember too the AFL took on a second level last year as a pilot program, and may go full-on with it this year. So you have your traditional AFL, then a lower-level league equivalent. So guys like Viciedo and other advanced prospects (maybe Mitchell) go to the traditional one, guys like Thompson go to the lower level one.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) I've searched it more than once.. trust me unless they were saying it on pale hose, it wasn't the case. The AAA team more-so got the love, which I don't blame at all. (I thought they were going to be the second best) I was trying to drop this a while ago (seriously it isn't that serious) but NSS kept going, and I probably should of just brushed my shoulder off and walked away from responding. I was just giving you a hard time because you bring this up repeatedly. Who kept going? If you didn't point it out repeatedly, it wouldn't get responded to. That said, I could just as easily ignore it, maybe I should have.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Acquiring Ramirez isn't just claiming him. Once Manny is claimed, there still must be a deal worked out. Considering Ramirez will be a Type A free agent who will probably get at least a two-year deal somewhere if he decides to play next season, the Dodgers would likely offer him arbitration (unless the risk of him accepting the offer is one the club is simply unwilling to take) and recoup a supplemental first-round pick plus either a first- or second-round pick if he were to sign elsewhere. They'll expect a trade offer that beats the promise of two first-round picks, and won't trade him if they can't get it. Pretty sure you are wrong about that. If the Sox claim him, the Dodgers CAN try to work out some sort of deal, they could pull him back, or, they can just say "fine" and the Sox take over his contract.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) I've already showed a link(s) of the predictions before. Show me a link where some also predicted them before the season started and I'll start believing you, but other than OB, Dan, myself, Bolt, and a couple others, there were no other predictions. Well me, for one. And you just listed 6 other people.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) How hard does he usually throw? A lot harder than 81 I'm sure. He's not a knuckle-baller. This just doesn't sound good - a 19 year old's arm is hurting and he's throwing 81 mph. I sure hope he tells someone.

I was going to guess burrito.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) If Manny hits well, the lineup would look pretty beastly...provided Ozzie doesn't keep playing Kotsay. If they do get Ramirez, one of these three things has to happen: --DFA Kotsay --DFA Jones --Option Lillibridge I want the first, but I'm thinking Ozzie lobbies for the third.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) My guess is Manny would hit 3rd and Rios would hit 5th. Pierre, 7 Vizquel, 5 M Ramirez 9/0 Konerko, 3 Rios, 8 Quentin, 0/9 A Ramirez 6 Pierzynski 2 Beckham 4 I'd rather have Beckham hitting 2nd, but this is probably what we'd see. Teahen should play against RHP filling in at 9, 0, 5 and maybe 3, for whomever is sitting, to get near-full-time at bats. Jones for defensive replacement and occasional starts. Castro against LHP for AJ. Lillibridge as the defensive bench player and PR. Kotsay DFA. I hope.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:25 AM) I'm salaried, and I work a bizarre schedule. 12 hour shifts, rotating 5 week schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays with no extra compensation for any one shift versus another. However, I do get about 16 weeks of paid vacation a year, so I'm not complaining. 16 weeks? WTF? Is this a Swedish company or something?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) Well, it can be. I'm a power user to an extent most here couldn't begin to understand, however, I've never had or felt the need to access my iOS devices file system...just, no real need. For a desktop computer, it's necessary, for a portable device, it's really not, so long as my the files I do use can be opened with the app they're related too, etc. Based on the description from that page iamshack linked, it seems like I can elect file sharing between iPad and a PC just fine. Good enough for my purposes anyway.

White Sox vs. Orioles, 7:10pm, CSN
NorthSideSox72 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in 2010 Season in Review
We're 4.5 back, with 3 against the O's (who are bad but not as bad since Showalter took over), while the Twins are playing the Rangers. This series is one of those where we need to pick up a game or two on the leaders. Win. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) I don't think file sharing works quite the same way as you'd normally expect with Apple products. There are apps out there that let you move files around, etc, but without jailbreaking, you never have direct access to the iOS devices file system. Well that's annoying.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) I believe you can with iTunes, not sure about other file sharing. Apple That link was helpful, didn't see that one before - thanks!

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Kila is terrible! He's this board's version of Hawk's crush on Randy Ruiz. Don't make me come over there! Its really not even SoxTalk's crush, its mostly just me. I think.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) They cannot synch wirelessly for general items such as iTunes synching -- yet anyway, this functionality will come. Some iPhone/iPad apps CAN synch wirelessly, however, but it depends on the app and if the makers of that app implemented it. For example, my password encrypter (1password), synchronizes wirelessly to my Mac. iPAD's don't have unlimited storage space (no portable devices do), so you have to pick and choose what you want to bring with you on the portables, for example, you take a few gigs of your music, not ALL of your music, pictures, etc. Quicken for Mac : http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance...al-software.jsp Quicken for iPhone/iPad : http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance...application.jsp These devices work with Windows or OSX (Mac's), so it doesn't matter what your base station is, Windows or otherwise, iPods/iPhones/iPad's can synch to them via iTunes just like anything else. Apple computers can use any monitor/monitors you have, so you don't "have" to buy Apple branded monitors, they will work with your Dell or HP monitors, too. Not sure what questions I missed. Thanks! The wireless sync I'm not overly concerned with, that was a nice to have. I guess what I'd really like is just to be able to plug an iPad into the base station, and have software that allows me to pick and choose those specific files/directories I want to sync between the units, automatically, when I plug it in. As long as that software exists (so that I don't have to write a batch file myself), then I'd be happy. But here is the other dilemma - will an iPad sync with a non-Apple computer for file sharing? Because some of the mapping software I use doesn't work on Apple (that I already researched). Looking at the iPad pages on the Apple site, that isn't made clear (the syncing with non-Apple computers), unless I am missing something.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) I was one of the only posters who picked W-S to be our best affiliate this season. That is my team to watch (along with the Barons) next season. You keep saying that, but everyone else said the same thing!

Alright, so, here is a question for some of you tech folks, and further, for Apple-ites. I work in tech, but big machine tech, and I'm not necessarily up on the latest PC/laptop/portable computer capabilities... I'd love to have an iPad or similar device - one which is highly portable, travels well, has full laptop-like functionality, etc. But, there are a few potential issues. One, the iPad doesn't have a ton of memory space - and I have like 60 GB of data (mostly pictures, iTunes and rasterized maps), and that number goes up all the time. Two, I live my financial life in Quicken, and I am not sure you can even run Quicken on Apple products at all, let alone an iPad. Three, I'd like to also have a real keyboard and dual monitor setup at a desk as well. So I was thinking, my ultimate setup would be to have a dual monitor setup on a desk, but also an iPad or similar device, that acted like a remote device. The main computer could store everything, use Quicken and some mapping programs, etc. But I would still want to take the iPad with me, and have it at least have some of the files on the PC stored on it as well, in addition to all the usual programs. As a final addition, I'd like it if my wife's iPad or similar could also hook up with the base computer, and do the same sorts of things. Is there a reasonably cheap way to make that work? I mean, obviously I'd need the iPad or two, and the monitors and keyboard. But does Apple make a standing computer that can act in the way I describe, that could be the base station? Could they all communicate wirelessly as well?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) OK, wife and I were talking about this . They keep talking about the 'millions' it would cost to retry Blago. The prosecutor is getting paid anyway, whether he there or back in the office picking his nose. Same for public defender (if he goes that route), the judge, bailifs, etc. The only new cost directly related to the trial would be Blago's lawyer, if the court ok'ed paying for it, and jury expenses. Even if you Do factor in pay for the judge, lawyers, etc, prorated over the month or two for the new trial can't be that bad. Where do they get the 'several million' price tag from? Its really not an added expense, as you state - its a choice of priorities. Re-try Blago, or do something else. And since I don't know what else is on the docket that is being pushed back, I can't really make a good call on whether or not it makes sense from that perspective. My instinct though, is that its worth it - to send a message, but also, because the multiple 11-1 jury counts tell me they can probably get it done.
