I had thought they'd use Remenowsky as the closer in W-S, but he's been a setup guy so far. 6 K in 3 IP thus far, keeping up the strikeouts.
-
Dan made one appearance in Spring Training with the big club - 2 IP, gave up 1 hit and 1 run, on the same play: a Tyler Flowers HR. He starts 2010 as the closer for Winston-Salem, High A.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Wow, Pierre's arm IS worse than Podsednik's. How is that possible? QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) I still don't know why we paid for a more expensive version of Pods. Pierre is a far better defensive OF than Pods is. They both have noodle arms, but Pierre is better in all other respects.

Pitching by basically everyone but Linebrink has been nails. As of this moment, 4 innings into game 5, the Sox have a team ERA of 2.45. That is fantastic. And I disagree on people saying the defense looks awful. The only defensive awfulness I've seen so far is Alexei being Alexei, and AJ not being able to throw out runners (only partially his fault). The offense has been awful, obviously.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) Rodrguez, Hunt and Buch all did fine. What the... Hunt WAS OK, now he blew up too.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Our relief prospects blowing up today. Nunez and Jones did it as starters. Santeliz doing it now for the Knights. I gotta say, I'm not a big fan of Santeliz. I didn't have him in my preseason top 25. His ERA was great last year, but ERA is so meaningless for relievers. He's got major control issues to fix. Rodrguez, Hunt and Buch all did fine.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) That was a great throw by Lucy. Looked pretty good to me, but he had no chance. -

So this is interesting... Nate Jones is listed as the starter for W-S in tonight's game. Converting to starter? -
Charlotte lost 8-6. Harrell got lit up, Dolsi and Aquino not much better, Threets 0.2 IP clean. Flowers 2-4, HR, 2 R... Viciedo 2-4, R. JorDanks HR, 1-5. De Aza, Kroeger, Lillibridge with hits. B-Ham lost 4-2. Long started, 3 ER in 5.1 IP. Mabee gave up a run, Socolovich 2 scoreless. Morel doubled for the only XBH, Sanchez 2-4, Armstrong and Shelby with hits. W-S cruised to a 7-1 win. Edwards 6 IP, 1 ER, Remenowsky 2 IP scoreless w/ 3 K, Infante 1 IP scoreless. Tons of offense... Escobar 4-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI... Brandon Short 2-5, HR, 2B... Phegley 2 hits... KWJR solo HR... Loman and Greene with hits. Kanny rained out. I'm surprised by who started for each team. Harrell over Hudson, Long over Shirek, Edwards over Leesman and Griffith.

GAME THREAD: 4/8, CLE v CHW, 7:10pm CSN+

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) I assume you are referring to Castro? He seems solid but I don't know if he calls a great game and is a true complete catcher. And you are right, he can't hit. Or are you talking about your boy Lucy? Meant Lucy, who by all accounts is a very good defensive catcher and has been complimented in the press by Ozzie and others for his pitcher handling. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 10:13 AM) My boy Floyd out there to pitch in the rubber game!!! And this might be a crazy thought, but if I were the Sox, I'd look hard into finding an upper echelon defensive catcher who could START. When you build a team around pitching, it also means you need to have a strong defense and our run-game defense is the worse in baseball (well outside of Boston). That would be a little more acceptable if we had a team that planned on scoring a s***-ton of runs, but when you built your team to win 3-2 games, you can't afford to be handing over 2nd to anyone that gets on 1st. There is already an upper echelon defensive catcher on the team - problem is, he can't hit. -
*ahem* do re mi fa so la ti doooooo... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!! Let's get it back on track and take the opening series!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) Anger, or even chosen ignorance, would be more accurate, you are right. Hate is too strong. And by chosen ignorance, I do NOT mean what side of the issue one chooses. I mean the choice to not even bother addressing the issue, at all, and instead embracing the "I believe what I believe so your science/facts/data is useless to me" mindset, to get to ANY conclusion.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) "Hate" is a strong word and has some pretty unpleasant connotations to it Anger, or even chosen ignorance, would be more accurate, you are right. Hate is too strong.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) Yeah, this board has had more and more of a left-lean over the past 18 months or so. I think that's partly due to some of the more right-leaning posters becoming less active for various reasons. And yeah, I get the feeling that all conservatives are sometimes painted with the broad brush stroke of ignorance or stupidity. It shouldn't happen, but it gets implied sometimes, even if it wasn't intentional. Here is the thing. Some of the lefty posters in here, are highly verbose. They post a lot, and write long posts. The total material on the left is undoubtedly higher than the right. But the pattern, we see in here every friggin day, so let's not beat around the bush... --Balta posts an article and/or some sort of analysis of the issue, which aligns with his left-of-center views, and explains why. --Kap responds with some one or two line nonsense about GOVERNMENT SAVES!!! Lefty word count: higher Righty hate count: higher That is the s*** that I am talking about. Its ridiculous, and unnecessary. f***, I'm so frustrated with this, that I'm breaking the damn rules that I wrote, right here. I give. I need a vacation from this forum. See y'all in a few weeks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) Look at the respective threads, their sizes, and their tones again. I have felt this way for a loooooooong time. Number of posts? There yes, definitely a left lean, I would never say otherwise (*cough* Balta *cough*). In terms of tone, I stand by my previous statements. But I'll tell you two things. 1. Anyone who wants to call me biased, or that anything I've ever done in this forum as a Mod or Admin was anything other than politically fair, they can shove it. You could not possibly show me an instance of it, because it does not exist. 2. This may not be PC to say, but there is simply a reality here... that while hate and extremism clearly exists on both the left and the right, it is painfully obvious that the percentage of people on the right who choose anger and veiled insults and threats as political themes, has gone up dramatically, starting with 9/11 and amplifying with the decaying economy and Obama's election. #2 is why I pointed out what I did. Not because the post was hateful or threatening (it was not), but because it was angry and insulting TOWARDS POSTERS HERE. You think I only do that to people on the right? Ask some of the lefties on this board who I've suspended before, or PM'd, or posted to cut it out in here. Be politically biased all you'd like, just don't think for a second that my admin/mod actions have ever been anything in the vicinity of biased.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) I'm not up a notch...I just disagree with you. Why is the new thing to paint everyone as angry?? I just feel your post was uneccesary and you did so not based on facts, but interpretation. I did not call anyone stupid, I did not shout from the extremes...yet here comes the thread police. You want to know why your losing great conversation...its because this place has become one sided. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) I read the filibuster far more than I post because it's just not worth the effort anymore. Unfortunately this board has become the Daily Show to me. I used to love it, but now it's just so anti-anything associated with non-liberal think. LOL, you guys cannot be serious about this forum somehow being one-sided on the left. On the right maybe, lately, but even then I'd say the silly extremist theater crap is fairly close to even. Slight right lean lately.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) http://www.globalfirepower.com/aircraft-total.asp That is aircraft. I like how you slid F-22s, to fighter aircraft, to war planes, to all aircraft. How many Hueys or Starlifters the US military has is irrelevant to the discussion of air superioriity aircraft like the F-22 - which is what I assumed you meant by war planes.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) The USA has more warplanes than the rest of the world combined. I wish the Chinese and Russians a lot of luck going for that strategy. But here's the point: refueling, maintaining and employing the ground crews/pilots for each of those planes costs an absolute ton. When you have 1 plane that can do as much as 10 planes but only requires 1/10th the landing space, fuel and crews in the end you save quite a bit of money. That will offset the R&D costs. I highly doubt that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) He's saying that is it done in the other thread all of the time, and nothing is said about it... I kind of agree with him. What? If you mean that certain politicians or public figures are put into that light, then you are correct, in both threads. My concern was because it was about people HERE. And no, I don't see that happening often, really in either thread. If you see it, feel free to point it out, as I did.
-
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Your post is kinda unnecessary. I mean s*** dude...pretty sure you have a clue about what is said on daily basis about conservatives. I didn't personally attack anyone. I'm in the repub thread and made a pretty insignificant dig, if you can even call it that. Dude... take it down a notch. Wasn't a big deal, just thought it was trite and unnecessary. The polarization stuff is just getting to me. We've lost a lot of great conversation lately, because everyone seems required to shout from the extremes. Calling half the posters in here stupid - which is what you did - just isn't helping anything. That's all I'm saying.
-
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) Well Hannity has proof of the sarcasm as this article from before the show illustrates. "We've got veterans, we've got stay-at-home moms, people who really don't like the direction of the country. They're speaking out and they've been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They've been called un-American. They've been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent," he said. Of course that's ignored even in the Dem thread on this site...where we have so many highly educated and logical posters.. Was that last part really necessary?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Sure Zambrano completely melted down and lasted 4 outs...but he didn't explode! It's a positive sign! Someone actually wrote that. If you read the whole article, putting that in context, its actually a good one. Isaacson is no Cubs apologist either. 90% of the article states clearly that the Cubs look bad.
