QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) Okay....rephrase: Who has the best potential to be still holding a roster spot with the White Sox in 2015 of our AA/AAA pitchers? 2015 is a long time in KW world. Most likely, few if any would be. Best guesses are Hudson (who the Sox see as a top of the rotation guy), and Shirek is a Sox pitcher type (high velocity, good control, high GO rates good for the Cell). But its awfully tough to say, with KW's wheeling and dealing.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) Anybody ever travel abroad by themselves? Is it recommended? I say this because I am most likely going to study abroad in Hong Kong Spring 2011, and I really want to explore Asia, possibly other places before the semester begins (it starts late, on Feb 1st so I would have about 3 weeks to travel, depending on how much I want to spend). I would go with someone but I most likely will not know anyone traveling there at the same time, and none of my friends will have the time or cash to do it too. I do have friends from Taiwan and other places offering to let me know where to go, and I have no problem traveling alone, just dont really know the whole international traveling alone thing. I spent a month in India on business. One of the best things I've ever done.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Is it fair to say that Shirek and Santeliz have the best "potential" to make contributions to the Sox this season? Along with Threets as the LHR? I don't see either Santeliz or Shirek contributing this year. I'd peg them both as 2011. Where would either fit in? Hudson is more ready for starting, and there are better candidates as long relievers in AAA.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) Plus a damn good 14 GO/2 FO. Charlie has plus velocity for a starter (95), and good sinking action on his pitches. If he keeps this up, he will move up the prospect lists quickly.

Some early starts today... Charlotte @ Durham, 12:05pm CT, no starter announced yet but looks like probably Zaleski's turn Jacksonville @ Birmingham, 10:05am CT, Shirek (1-0, 0.00) starting Winston-Salem @ Myrtle Beach, 6:05pm CT, Leesman (1-1, 2.25) starting Kanny @ Rome, 12:00pm CT, Cameron Bayne (1-1, 5.91) starting

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) The yearly Forbes revenue/expenditure/team value numbers are out. According to these data, the Sox are actually in the upper part of the league in terms of earnings/income last year, in no small part due to them holding very little debt. Interesting that all but two teams made money. Not that many years ago, it was closer to 50/50. Tigers losing a lot of money.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) Maybe he needs glasses. At first this idea seems funny, but, it might actually be possible. But it sounds (from people who have seen a lot of him) that its more likely his head not staying quiet in his swing.

Jon Gilmore: 10 Game Tease or Breakout Candidate?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) The Braves also got a guy they thought was a front of the rotation pitcher. Its not like they got nothing in the deal. Seriously. They didn't "dump him quickly", they got a major league mid-rotation starting pitcher. -
Best friend's little sister. Knew her from like age 10, the idea didn't even occur to us until a camping trip in our twenties (that her brother was also on). Apparently she doesn't mind guys who haven't showered in a week. I'm a lucky man.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) The Arizona State House just passed a bill requiring the President to show his birth certificate to that state if he wants to appear on the 2012 ballot. LOL Buffoons. There were questions about McCain's status as well having been born overseas, but both he and Obama said clearly it was a non-issue. This type of thing is what annoys me about how the Tea Party movement has been co-opted. Its core purpose - to rail against out of control government spending and control - has great merit. Unfortunately for the people who see it that way, they've been conjoined in the "movement" by any and all people whose hatred of Obama goes beyond the bound of reality, and right into cartoonish idiocy.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 08:04 AM) I didn't watch the game. Did Kotsay get any Wise-like boos? Kotsay didn't play. We're talking about the fact that Ozzie says he has a set lineup now against RH and LH, which seems to mean that Kotsay will be starting 70% of the time.
-
Marrero and Mollenhauer both really struggling out there so far. Marrero put up an .859 OPS in partial season at B-Ham last year, so I'm really surprised to see him hitting below the Mendoza line at this point.
-
Playing Kotsay over Jones 2/3 of the time (which is what happens with R/L) makes zero sense at this time. I think at times people on the board get overzealous with the Ozzie bashing, but in this case, if he does this, he is just dead wrong.

I got suspended/banned over there once. Best part? It was because of something I supposedly did on a different board. Back in 2005 or 2006, I would post occasionally on the Detroit Tigers board (motown sports). One of the DET fans asked me about the various Sox boards. I described WSI and SoxTalk to him, in what I thought were fair terms, showing the good and bad of each board. I did recommend SoxTalk over WSI overall. There was a poster there named Timberwolf, who was a Twins fan, and he also apparently posted on WSI. On the DET board, he would just continuously rail on Chicago. Not just the Sox, but the city, its fans, everything. So he sees this post, cuts and pastes select parts of it, and sends them to the Mods at WSI. They then ban me for supposedly disparaging their site. Anyway, I talked to their mods about it, and was allowed back on. I do still post there occasionally. I personally think their moderating is a bit too stringent, but as Critic said, its apples and oranges. They just have different styles, and both can be great for different reasons.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) BTW, what was the attendance tonight? Just curious. I didn't see it in the box score at MLB.com. 19,260. Hmmmm..... On a Tuesday, on a cool night, in April, against a team with no national following to speak of, with the team playing like s*** at 4-9. Still almost 20k. I'd actually call that impressive, and it shows you how far this organization has come in the past decade or so. Wasn't that many years ago that games like this would draw 11k, not 19k.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:42 AM) He's a lefty reliever...Randy Insurance Policy? One would think that Threets is the Williams insurance policy. -
Daley has overseen a Chicago government that is highly corrupt. But that said, I think people here are ignoring two huge things. 1. The city gov't in Chicago was just as corrupt, probably more so, before Daley. 2. Corrupt or not, Daley has been a highly effective mayor, and helped Chicago go through a 20 year renaissance as a city that few other US cities have ever seen. He's been very, very good for the city, overall.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) you wouldn't rather see rios or jones there? I thought you were joking because Kotsay had been in the 3-slot previously. No, TCQ is a very talented guy, he's someone you don't demote in the order this quickly. Kotsay should never have been there to begin with.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) No it begins immediately, atleast according to rotoworld. Even if it didn't the Reds could activate him and his suspension will play out through the duration of his injury time, and they can use another player from their minor league system (or in this case, another player already on the MLB roster) as his "replacement" That is lame, the rule should be changed. And even if the Reds activated him, he'd take up a spot on the 25-man roster, so the penalty is still there. This allowing them to serve the suspension on the DL is just stupid.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) So the Reds literally GAIN about $140k from this suspension? They don't lose any starts from him, and they save a little bit of money. That's f***ed up. I'd assume that his suspension begins once he clears the DL.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Nix really needs to be traded, as he's worthless if he's not going to be used against tough lefties and/or to pinch run. He doesn't make much sense on this team as constructed, I agree. And as long as the Sox aren't completely out of it, they will make a deadline deal for a bat, who will take Nix's spot on the roster.

Kila Ka'ahuie, thus far with Omaha AAA: .325/.491/.700 for 1.191 OPS, 4 HR, 12 RBI in 11 games -
Charlotte lost 11-0. Nothing but ugly in that game for the Knights.

QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) I am going to say it is Vicente Padilla. I hope so. That would be my best case scenario.
