  1. As is well-known, I'd be all for getting Kila. Obviously A-Gon or Berkman would be better, but if they can't be had, I think Kila makes a nice pair with Viciedo to compete for the 1B/DH of the future with the Sox. I think its likely that one of them could be very good.
  2. Did he get hurt? Looks injured in those last couple shots.
  3. Jeez, he's got the MacDougal head jerk thing going on there. He's looking off at the first base dugout near his release point.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) They have? Where and when? They are upset with government spending levels. From what admittedly little I've seen in speeches and quoted statements from their leadership, they don't exclude military spending from that equation. Some might, I don't know, but you seem to THINK they feel that the military isn't subject to it. I just haven't seen any evidence as such, only your assumption. As an example, Ron Paul, the Libertarian that he is, was quite against many of our military endeavors.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 08:56 AM) Why won't they say a peep about the out of control defense spending? It's hard to take them seriously if that's something they never even consider. Who says they don't say a peep about that? Bill Maher? Yeah there's a reliable source of information.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 08:28 AM) If I have learned anything from the Tea Party it is that there is no such thing as distinctions in movements. If I am for smaller government, I am for the elimination of entire races. The same way with the environmental movement, if you are for this, you are for the firebombing of car dealerships and the attacking of people for any kind of violations of mother earth. You are obviously in favor of all of that. And I think I pointed out that distinction in the Tea Party in a different post earlier this morning.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) Well yeah, 6 years under our control once he gets to the show. He's like Strasbourg would be; he got a big signing bonus/early contract. If he quit and went to go work in a nuclear plant, he'd lose a lot of money, but if his first contract ends before he's racked up enough time to be arb-eligible and he's made the big leagues, the Sox can just renew his contract. 6 years after arrival? Well hell then, I'm not the least bit worried yet. If he does this year what he did last year - improve each month - then looks like he knows what he's doing in AAA in 2011... then I'm happy.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Another death on the Iowa State campus today, girl hit by a train. Since where is the a train that goes through campus?
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) I think it was fine. I hope you are still here in 10 years -- when you are no longer talking about this movement but have latched onto another one. I'm confident this will happen. And when it does, I will surely remind you of this post. LOL First, I've been part of this "movement" since I was a kid. Not going to suddenly shift to some other fashion in 10 years. Second, this "movement" has resulted in a lot of positives the past few decades already, and it isn't going anywhere any time soon. Third, you've seen enough of my posts to know that I know the difference between an "environmentalist" (the ones who think its environmentally solid to drive their Humvee because they bought carbon credits), and "conservationists" who actually understand their impact on the world.
  10. Did someone say... SWEEP? Haven't heard that in a loooooong time. I'd like to hear it again soon. So... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!! Regression to the mean means MB's ERA goes down and Wilson's goes up. Let's see it.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 07:56 AM) You know that's incorrect, right? We have him for the full set of arbitration years assuming he makes the big leagues at some point. I thought it was a total of 6 years of control (4 in contract, two in Arb). Is it more than that?
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 07:43 AM) Instead, let's b**** about pollution from our computers, discounting the fact that the amount of pollution created just to manufacturer computer components is insane, not to mention powering them. Oh, and let's drive our cars everywhere, too...since they have improved MPG, it's ok to drive now! It's having your cake and eating it, too...which is what I do. I mean why would I want cake if I couldn't actually eat it? When this movement fades away (after they scam billions upon billions of dollars) while lowering the worlds carbon footprint by a whopping 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% in 20 years, you will simply stop hearing about it from all the people who did nothing but talk about it the entire time it was going on. By then, they'll have latched onto the next anti-something movement which is sure to come, and if we don't solve that, our grandchildren will have to pay for the damage we are doing! It's like the vegetarian you all know in your lives that wears leather shoes or a leather jacket. That was an impressive rant. There wasn't one shred of reality in it after the first graf, but, big points for style!
  13. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) I thought the Tea Party was about taxes that have just gotten too high despite the fact that for 98% of the country taxes haven't been lower in over 60 years. There is some tax panic in there, but really its core is more about out-of-control spending. And if they stick to that, I'm pretty much in agreement with their concerns. Then of course, as with all movements, you get hangers-on, idiots, psychos, and co-opters, all of which add in layers of B.S. about Obama being Malaysian/Communist/Fascist/Nazi/Socialist/Alien. And the people who scream about taxes when, as has been pointed out, are still quite low on a historical scale.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) My only reason for bringing it up is that planes are more dangerous than trains or cars. You crash a car or derail a train, you might survive. Not so much when you crash a plane. Um, no. Flying is far safer than driving or taking a train in terms of fatality rates. I thought this was common knowledge.
  15. QUOTE (3E8 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) I'd say we start getting legitimately concerned now. He was moved from third base due to poor defense. He has zero plate discipline. He cannot hit a breaking ball. From the few times I've seen him live, the bat speed and power do look special. But if he's not making contact it's not worth anything Most hitters even in the majors can't hit a breaking ball either, unless it doesn't really break. The key is, they know how to lay off them, or if in defensive batter mode, slap it away somewhere. It appears Viciedo can't do that, at least not yet. The guy is still 21 in AAA. I'm not ready to write him off. He started last year this way too, then got better each month. If he does that this year, he should be ready to crush AAA in 2011, at age 22, which is fine by me. He's under team control for another 3 years after that.
  16. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) I can't recall a three game sweep on the winning side where the White Sox have looked worse. I'll take being 8-11, and I hope we can hang around .500 until we can get something fixed with this offense, but this is still a dreadful team with the bat. Homer or nothing. In any park like Comerica you might as well put a zero up on the board. Worst. Sweep. Ever.
  17. Serafin a tough loss, gave up only 2 ER, but 6 R total on 4 Kanny errors. Silverio has 8 on the season already.
  18. Again? Seriously? Walk-offs? I'll take it. Here we go again... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!! Use the broom, D1.
  19. I'm all for the demand-side changes, and penalties being made more severe for hiring or transporting illegals. But I agree with the majority here, the police intervention aspect of this bill is scary-vague. It allows for far too much abuse.
  20. What the... wait... won yesterday? Well, OK then. Another time... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!! Freddy, show us you deserved that 5th slot.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Figured I'd wait to post this until we actually saw if the Governor signed it. She did. If I wasn't white, I wouldn't drive through Arizona after this without my passport, they might not like an out of state driver's license. Come to think of it, I'm not going to Arizona. "And I will own a recreational vehicle. And I will drive from state to state. Do they let you do that? No Papers?" I would like to have seen Montana.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) http://twitter.com/InsideTheSox/status/12722822747 Big #WhiteSox & #Cubs news to be released Monday. Yes, I said #Cubs, too. - Scott Riefert Both, related? Doubtful its a trade. More likely some sort of marketing scheme.
  23. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Pierre DH Bekcham 2B Jones LF Konerko 1B Rios CF Quentin RF Ramirez SS Lucy C Nix 3B Floyd P You're only an hour late.
  24. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) Teahen. He gets on-base at a fantastic rate. Or if you don't like that: Alex Rios. Rios 9 Teahen 5 TCQ DH PK 3 Jones 8 AJP 2 Beckham 4 Ramirez 6 Pierre 7
  25. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) well that's good - i was using that new "future" look at TWC I saw that too. Weird thing is, the radar says its raining here downtown right now. But its bone dry, I can see out the window.
