  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) Padilla just walked around like a douchebag. That dude is such a scumbag. Seriously, now that he is in the NL, he needs to get drilled every f***ing time he's at bat.
  2. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) for anyone that is wondering, Target Field seems to be playing 'big' in this early season. The Power alleys are death traps for long outs. You can seem to carry the ball a little down the extreme left field foul pole area. The BoSox players crushed a few balls and they turned into out. Delmon Young has hit about 5 balls hard into power gaps all outs (Although Scotty Pods made a pretty good play tonight to rob Delmon of a hit) Not surprising, especially this time of year. I'll stick with my original guess, that it will play big in April-May, then play small in summer when the W and SW winds prevail.
  3. Sox team batting average: .222, 2nd worst in AL, 3rd worst in MLB (HOU and CLE worse) Sox team AVG w. RISP: .196, 3rd worst in AL, 5th worst in MLB That's bad. Good news is, as weak as some parts of the Sox lineup are... they will NOT stay this bad all season. Teams just don't bat .222 for a full season, or .196 w.RISP for a full season. Not going to happen. The Sox offense will improve, and they will probably get a good hot streak going soon. Its just a question of whether or not they get better ENOUGH to catch up with MIN and DET.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) How do I answer this... they changed the angles of the seats. The measurement between seats are the same but the pitch is slightly different. It gives you something like two more inches. Woot. Is that fairly new? I haven't been on an AA flight since last fall. If so, that's great. Being 6'4" riding on a plane is terrible.
  5. Well what I kept harping before the season was... pitching looks great, bullpen will be a strength, defense is improved, speed is improved, DH hole is a big mistake, but the biggest factor in the success or failure of the team would be the OF/DH rotation and how those bats do (Quentin/Rios/Pierre/Jones/Kotsay). I said if all of those guys (or even 4 of 5) did well, the Sox win the division. Well... Quentin and Rios look decent. Jones is on-and-off. Kotsay and Pierre look atrocious. 50/50 on that group right now, which isn't good enough.
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Okay, so now Jeffrey Tezak was sent back to Kannapolis and the White Sox signed catcher Jason Bour and assigned him to Winston-Salem. Bour formerly was a farmhand of the Reds. So, signing a catcher off the street is not a good sign for the health of either Logan Johnson or Josh Phegley. One or both of them may miss significant time. Also seems to indicate that they don't think Gonzalez or Dubler are ready to move up.
  7. Cassel with a nice outing - maybe his second demotion in 2 seasons provided a kick in the rear.
  8. Tyler Kuhn is intriguing to me. Never gets any prospect props, and I can't find any scouting info on him at all. But all he does is hit, at each level. Nice to see Shirek answering the questions about his K rate that arose last season (had dropped to about 3 K/9). 2 starts so far, he's gone 12 IP, given up just 5 hits, no runs, 3 walks, and struck out 8.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Say they move Dubler up to W-S, there are only two other catchers in the system that I know of who could take his place at Kanny. Chase Blackwood or Robert Vaughn. If Dubler or Gonzalez are promoted to W-S, all you need is a backup C at Kanny for a little while. Blackwood and Vaughn are just organizational filler, and I'm sure they'd be fine with filling in there for a while.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) If Hudson pitches great at AAA, I expect him to be the starting pitcher on June 3 vs Texas. Freddy is going to get nine starts, and he'll have 3 quality starts and 2 wins, and the Sox will probably go 3-6 in his starts and he'll be moved to the bullpen. Who would then get moved out of the bullpen to make room for Freddy?
  11. The various W-S catcher injuries are now up on FS.
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Damn, now Josh Phegley is on the DL and Jeffrey Tezak was promoted to Winston-Salem. Phegley on the DL?! OK so, either Gonzalez or Dubler will move up to W-S, and that means they'll both get starting time. Dubler getting another shot to show he can do something.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Lets go Buehrle, just like game 1 Or Game 6. Either one would work.
  14. Here's something interesting. I hadn't really thought of the Sox pitching staff, starters particularly, as strikeout pitchers. Well, the Sox staff leads all of baseball in strikeouts with 90. Next are OAK at 84, BAL at 80.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5098407 Best story of day, or weirdest. Fan arrested for vomiting intentionally on girl in Philly....$36,00 fine? Double wow. No, $36,000 bail bond. Not a fine.
  16. Pitching matchups look good for the Sox in this series. I like our chances of 2/3, maybe even a sweep. 2/3 gets us to 6-7, sweep gets us over .500 to 7-6.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) So the 3 to 4 months that would remain in the 2009 season don't count? Well no, because we already played those. Sorry man, had to.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) No one would put in the claim, because the Cubs would just let him go happily. There is a game to that. If a team makes the claim to sort of call dibs, then contacts the Cubs, I'd bet the Cubs would be open to discussing sending some money along with Soriano, if they got a little something back in trade.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) 2-1 you mean. And what's w/ the thread title edit? Injuns and Failbot aren't bad! Failbot isn't offensive, though its not particularly funny. Injuns is, well, mildly offensive.
  20. Clearly they were scouting Donny Lucy. Lucy for A-Gon?
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) Any guesses as to who out there would even claim that contract? It would more likely be a waiver claim leading to a money-giving trade. Only 3 or 4 teams in baseball would even consider a contract of that much money and years, but I don't think any of them have a need for Soriano.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) I still say I am 2-0, if not for someone stepping on my toes, we would have had a 4 game winning streak! Go Sox! (Also, go Blackhawks!) Uh oh. Someone else edited your thread title, other than me. I was 1-1 on the edits. Hopefully the JoeCoolMan-knightni combo can do better than .500!
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/...ano?eref=fromSI a quick blurb from SI.com about the how bad Soriano is and possibility of Cubs trading or releasing him, the only thing I think of when I see this is the awesome trade scenarios some of the Cubs fans are going to come up with.... "Soriano for Pujols, that way the Cards can have a bat and not worry about signing him to the extension, we may have to throw in Fotenot though!!!" Release won't happen, with the money they'd owe. Maybe a trade where the Cubs cover some of the salary, or even a waiver leave.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) Lucy never left the major league camp this year. Yeah I was going to say, that wasn't a call-up - Lucy made the 25-man roster out of ST. And so far, he seems to be doing pretty well.
  25. Yes, other than Williams, the pen has been great. I had a feeling this pen would be a strength for the team. Pitching, in general, is going to be as strong as any team. Just need the offense to get some consistency going.
