  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Hey, you guys can't throw her under the bus, you're Democrats. Don't worry, I threw her under a while ago. It had to be done. Is that how that works? Can I push her in front of it then? Eh, I've taken the analogy too far. Besides, she's chosen to walk out into traffic with blinders on anyway.
  2. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) You are assuming the Japanese companies would want them. The Daimler-Chrystler merger was a disaster (I know, that was a German company), but it showed that clashes in corporate culture, business practices (e.g., the relationship with suppliers mentioned earlier in this thread), and national cultures can create an unworkable situation. I think what you might see, is Japanese companies bying certain, specific car lines from the American companies. This helps the American companies get an in flux of cash and a reduction in size, and the Japanese companies can pick and choose car lines to adopt that fit a missing cog.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) HIllary CAN'T take a position in the Obama administration. If she wants to run in 2012, she needs Obama to fail, or fail at least enough to justify a change. If he does just that, she can't have the stench of a failed Obama admin on her and needs to be as far away from it as possible so she can say "See? I told you so!" If she breaks down and does take a job in the admin, then she has given up all hope of being President herself. No, she's given up all hope of being President in 2012. she'd still be very much in play in 2016, potentially.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Hillary's been offered the Job Smart move, even though I think Richardson or Lugar or Kerry might be better qualified. Not only does it embrace his team of rivals concept, it also helps neutralize any attempt on her part later to set up a 2012 run against him. Hard to do that when you work for him. But if she waits for 2016, he could be in a position to help her out.
  5. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) No problem. However, I do find it interesting that you focused on the word "they" instead of the word "terrorism". That's because I see no lack of clarity there. I agree, that was an act of terrorism.
  6. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) If it wasn't for the gender specific references here, I would swear you were talking Obama. See, I completely disagree. Every politician, every one, will change their stance, at least subtly, on some issues. But I am not talking about issues here. I am talking about the behaviors and words that make a person who they are - their leadership and communicative style, if you will. Obama was remarkably consistent in this manner, IMO. Clinton was the opposite.
  7. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) Stop trying to twist my words. That's exactly what I meant. Forgive me. I've seen an awful lot of generalizations worded this way, about any groups that people disagree with, in here. Its a pet peeve of mine. During the election, I tried to distinguish the difference between candidates and individuals, versus their followers or voters. But society as a whole has a bad habit of applying the behavior of the worst of a group, and applying it to the entire group.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) I can't imagine how we could possibly trade him if he cleared waivers and no one grabbed him. That. Either he's in Charlotte, or more likely, he declines the assignment and someone else signs him.
  9. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) Oh great. Now they are resorting to terrorism. They? I assume you mean the few crazies who did this.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Macdougal was just outrighted to Charlotte. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i belive that's another one bites the dust off the 40. Where did you read that, BTW?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) Does that mean he cleared waivers completely? Guess no one wanted to pay him the rest of that contract. Heh, I guess we weren't getting anything in trade for him then. He could still elect not to take the outright, and go out as a free agent, right? My question is, if he does decline the assignment, is his contract null and void? Or does a signing team get his current contract?
  12. FYI for people going to see QoS this weekend... You will be treated to the first theatrical trailer for the new Star Trek movie.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) I initially thought it was a no-brainer also, but is there actually a chance some team will sign him with less than a half year of AA experience and leave him in the majors all year? Some team like the Marlins or Nationals might do it. I wouldn't take the chance, unless we've got something better that needs protecting.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) We no longer have the Irish one. More seriously though, I see nothing about O'Malley moving along. He was last listed with B-Ham. Where/how as he moved?
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) We no longer have the Irish one. You mean Miguel Negron? He's still around.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) It looks like the Dec09 par calls could be had for about 4.00. The 150's are 0.50 at 1.83 if you really wanted to stay small on your bet. I don't trade commodities directly, but if I did, I think I'd take some of those Dec 09 calls around par (probably do an up range distribution of some kind from par).
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/20...costs-uaws-conc What is idiotic about the unions refusing to negotiate is that if the company(ies) fail, and go bankrupt, the union contracts go fully out the window anyway. Then they will get far, far less. They are taking a huge gamble with people's careers and lives. I for one think that bankruptcy may actually be better, in the long run, for GM and possible the others as well. They would come out the other end as stronger, more competitive enterprises.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) Short-term I wouldn't be surprised to see them go under $50. Buy calls is all I have to say. Yeah, short term I think it ranges around in the 50's and 60's, and that's what the commodities guys I talk to are saying. Maybe flirts with $50 even or so. But long term, its headed up. I'd be buying calls for 2009 and 2010 contracts.
  19. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I believe Brandon Allen needs to be protected. If he does, then that should be a no-brainer.
  20. Consumer retail sales dropped by 2.8% in October - the largest drop ever recorded. Yowza. Good news is, oil is down around $60/bbl on the economic weakness and dollar strength. Well, good news in terms of short term spending, anyway. Bad news for alternative energy. And those prices won't hold that low either, in the long run.
  21. I'm hoping for David Cook to be protected. But I think I'll be disappointed.
  22. I have noticed a huge drop in spam lately - like 90%. I thought maybe my email provider had turned on a few filter or something.
  23. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...0,7149583.story I thought this was just a radio jingle, I had no idea it was a real song from "The Fixx" The sooner they stop showing it the better. Its almost as bad as seeing Kelly Clarkson every other commercial during the 05 season and playoffs for the Ford commercial Just to be clear, the commercial isn't playing the original Fixx song. Its a muzak remake of it.
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) So did I, but some around here wanted to throw her under the bus. I don't like her, but that stuff is ridiculous. I threw her under the bus - which is where she belongs, politically speaking. And that has nothing to do with rumors - it was her behavior and words, right in front of my eyes.
  25. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 08:35 AM) I never thought I'd say this, but Hillary gained a reasonable amount of my respect during the campaign. I had the opposite reaction, for the most part. She showed a duplicitous quality that made me ill. It was really borderline personality disorder - she was a different person every few weeks, depending on what seemed to be working for her.
